Baseball isn’t nearly as big here as in the US. We’re more of a cricket nation, though they’re both equally as boring to watch if you’re not really into sports. You may be surprised to know baseball is quite popular in Japan as a spectator sport.
I am a avid baseball fan…as well as a baseball player.
My favorite teams are the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fav players-Josh Hamilton, Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitski, Brad Hawpe, Brandon Webb, Stephan Drew, and Ubaldo Jimenez.
Predictions soon to come…i actually did a prediction last year on the EggXpert account i had.
It was called The Monthly Arizonan and i posted sports predictions and commentaries on it.
NL;
East;
Phillies barely slip by with division as the Mets and Braves follow closely behind. Washington and Marlins lag in the dust just like the Devil Rays did 3 years ago in the AL East.
Central;
St. Louis battles the Cubs all the way but fall in the last couple months. Houston and Milwakee also contend for the begginning of the season but drop off about half-way. Pirates and Reds are dead last but still getting better.
West;
DiamondBacks battle Dodgers for lead but the Giants surprise the World and take first place in the last month. Colorado finishes outside of the pack in 4th but still has potential for top 3 finish if San-fran falters or Dodgers lose it.
AL;
East;
Rays beat Yanks to finish with Longoria their MVP and Price their rookie of the year candidate. Boston finishes second or third but definitely outside of the race. Yanks or Boston get wild card automatically. Toronto and Baltimore fight for the infamous last place position.
Central;
The White Sox, Indians, and Tigers battle for the lead with the Indians once again coming out on top due to Cliff Lee pitching lights out and finishing with 20+ wins. White Sox make galant effert and are just thwarted landing in 2nd or possibly 3rd. Royals finish in the top 5 but make great strides forward. Minnesota and Tigers fight each other to the death and ultimately lose wild card chances as they kill each other just for 3rd place.
West;
Angels win the pennant but are starting to get challenged by Texas and Oakland. Texas comes in seconds with a strong second year by Josh Hamilton (30+ Homers 100+ RBI’s). Oakland makes great strides but comes up short against Angels powerhouse. Seattle looses even more ground as their youth still learn.
Playoff’s
NL;

Rays Win AL Championship once again…
Giants V.S. Rays…with the Giants Home because the NL wins the All-Star Game through the help of Tim Linecum and David Wright.
World Series…(drum roll please)…
Giants win in 6 Games…!!!
Linecum pitches games 1 and 6 throwing 14 innings with only 4 runs given up.
Well, there you have it. Straight from the MLB Commissioners mouth…okay not really but it is logical to me.
Giants upset the world and become the new World champions of baseball.
NLROY-Max Scherzer…ARI…wins
ALROY-David Price…TB
NLMVP-Albert Pujols…who else??
ALMVP-Josh Hamilton…only because A-Rod would bring revolt to the voting commity if he won.
NLCY Young-Tim Linecum…wins it again over Webb and Hamels
AL Cy Young-Cliff Lee…man that guy can pitch…
Phew…those take a long time to think of.
Sports Writer signing off…
You mean rounders? We don’t really have any professional teams here, It’s a school sport.
Can we really call baseball America’s “National Pastime” anymore? Seems like football has completely taken over.
This, haha. Though baseball does look a little more hardcore. It’s definitely one of my aims for when I visit America to go to a baseball (or American football, one of the two) match.
GO Indians!!! Their home opener is today and even though there will probably be rain delays, I really hope they win. Poor Indians havent won a game yet this season. I’m also a big fan of the Chicago Cubs (go Cubbies! whoo!) and I like the New York Mets as well. There is a certain team I HATE, but wont mention them unless I am persuaded to…
I’m not much of a baseball fan, but I went to my step-brother’s little league game last night. In the last inning, he was winning 13-6. The other team caught up and won at the end. Too bad… and it was friggin’ cold! (In Southern California, “cold” means 45 degrees)
And did anybody hear about the guy on the angels who died in a car accident after his first MLB game?
Al-Bob: You should have your own baseball column on ESPN!!!
My team: Baltimore Orioles. Go O’s!!! I’ve rooted for them since I was a kid since there wasn’t a DC team here at the time. And despite the Nationals coming over a few years ago, I still can’t seem to change my loyalties! I have a feeling that might be the case for a lot of other O’s fans and explanation the Nats don’t have much of a fan base here…
As for watching baseball, it ranks behind American football, basketball and soccer as my favorite sport to watch, and I’d prefer to go to a game live rather than watch it on TV. And yes, I am one of those who pays more attention to baseball in October when post-season play starts
mo: I heard. It was so sad. He was going to be a star and then his it was cut short. It was a tragedy.
The Good Ole Game of Bat and Ball… COnsidering I’m British and Male… There exists only one bat and ball game… and I’m utter pants at it…
Playing rounders with the girls then I shine… and considering I have hayfeaver looked more like a Baseball Player than that of a Comprehensive School Pupil trying to play rounders… and Held the bat like a stereotypical baseball star… (and remained one of the only players left “in” at the end of the innings)
Armed with my little Red Socks hat as the rest of the School wore the Fashion statement Yankees ones…
Now not that the Sport gets much coverage over here… or any US Sport does really… I like to keep my eyes on what’s happening…
and With very little actual understanding of the rules (there’s got to be a … For Dummies book out there) I’ll struggle along and watch the occasional game as it gets aired…
Captain Pan: When I lived in the UK, many of my friends were really into cricket and for the life of me, I couldn’t understand it! It lasts for like days and people just run back and forth. So I can imagine what you think when you watch baseball…my friends didn’t understand it at all. Haha, funny how two sports can be so similar but so different!
CoCoMeister I Personally hate Cricket… its too slow… takes forever and after trying to catch a corkball once handed off a guy who shot it at me I kind of dispise the standing around constantly…
US Baseball is vastly more entertaining… and Although I don’t quite understand the whole series thing… I’d rather try and learn to understand the rules of the US game (I know Football now and Am a Patriot Fan… Although I do like the Cardinals too)… Than Stand around in Whites having a break for Sandwiches and cups of tea and playing the same game for 5 days straight only to rest for 3 to play it again for another 5 days!
And looking at what Primary Schools Here teach for sport in the Summer… I am going to be an aweful teacher… Unless I teach them nothing but Athletics, Rounders and Tennis
Go Rays!
I don’t really watch baseball, but when something from Florida does well I cant help but cheer Hopefully they do well against the White Sox like last year. (The first game is going on now, its 2-0 White Sox, Boo!)
Also i know the guys son (from my old school, met him a few times) who owns the Yankees, so they are awesome too.
Floridabum: You like the Rays huh? You know that Evan Longoria is leading the MLB in Home runs?
I just knew he was good, now i know why
Yes! Go Indians! That was a great win for them yesterday! I was happy for em. Hopefully now they’re finding their groove
First off…
GO RED SOX!!! WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Second off, I can’t believe the injuries we’ve had this year:
Patterson
Beckett
Matsuzaka X2
Tazawa (out for season)
Lowrie
Cameron X2 (out for season)
Bonser
Ellsbury X3 (out for season)
Youkilis (out for season)
Cash
Varitek
Martinez
Hermeida
Okajima
Buchholz
Pedroia X2
Lowell
Delcarmen
Saltalamacchia
It just never ends.
And thirdly, Roger Clemens is gonna be indicted for lying to Congress about using PED’s. Good. We need to rid baseball of this blemish. People should be punished for it. Especially if they lie to Congress.
I haven’t played baseball since I was a tyke.
But, I am a huge San Francisco Giants fan! I LOVE going to their games, it’s so much fun going down to the ball field! Let’s go GIANTS!
The best game to go to is Battle of the Bay! Frisco Giants VS Oakland As.
Anyway, I am a huge Frisco Giants supporter!
I went to the Red Sox-Blue Jays game yesterday and I got on TV during the last at-bat! It was very rainy and the game ended almost 3 hours after it should have, but I had fun!
Go Sox!!!
