Bee Movie

yeah … i don’t really get what it has to do with B-movies either , but that’s what Jerry said on Oprah ! lol …

glp- Well, they know what they’re talking about! I hope…

I finally saw the darn thing a few days ago with my family, and it’s only because my dad got the movie for free.

As usual, DreamWorks delivered another bomb, although I will admit that there was a significant amount of humor in the film so as to keep its audience from falling asleep ([spoil]that scene where Barry dreams of his lover crashing into a rock was drop-dead hilarious[/spoil]). The first half hour contained, I think, its strongest moments, and the best part in the whole film, [spoil]in which the lady (of whose name escapes me) rescues Barry[/spoil], lasts only a few seconds, naturally.

In short, I hated it…to an extent. Heheh.

I’m a bit late too, but here it goes…

Positives:

  • the costumes for the bees were creative. Like how they all had striped jackets and jumpers with different bee patterns.

  • Visually, the animation style is not what I’m used to but the colours were vibrant, and overall the movie looked very sleek.

  • the 2D credits: really cute. Probably my fav part of the movie. It was quite good, but not as good as Ratatouille’s credits, but it was a nice surprise since I didn’t expect that type of creativity from Dreamworks.

Negatives:

  • Character design: Hello, Uncanny Valley! Vanessa’s boyfriend was the worst offender (and why was he yelling all the time?), and Ray Liotta just plain creeped me out. :shake:

  • Yeah, the ending was very far fetched.

  • At times, like when the bees were changing the humans’ world so they couldn’t use the honey anymore, the music sounded like a rip-off of Brazil song, which was used in the trailer as well. I mean, if you want to use the song, just pay for it!

  • The rules of this movie’s universe kept getting broken. Like when Barry first talked to Vanessa she nearly had a fit because apprentely bees couldn’t talk, but then when he talked to Vanessa’s boyfriend he basically just accepted it. Same when he was going “buzz, bzzz, buzzzz” then he spoke in English, but instead of being surprised everyone in the courtroom just sighed. Now that’s lazy scriptwriting right there.

Oh, and was anyone reminded of Toy Story 2 when Barry was on the ride thing to his graduation, and the attendant spoke in English then in Spanish? Probably just me being an overcritical, Pixar fangirl, though.

Yes, it was! I think that was actually the only time I laughed during the entire movie, and I laughed HARD, along with the rest of the audience.

Yes, exactly. My mom brought that point up, as well. Probably the main reason why the film failed the way it did was because of this crucial aspect. It’s a shame, really. You’d think that DreamWorks would learn…

He did? Heh, I’ve only seen the film once so I barely remember any of it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if DreamWorks had nicked another joke from Pixar. (snigger)

LeBatEnRouge - Ha-ha. Yeah, it was hilarious. As much as DreamWorks’ films stink these days they do still know how to make people laugh pretty hard from time to time. :stuck_out_tongue:
