BOX OFFICE Thread ( Super 8 is Number 1)

I’m hoping to see Pirates and Hangover Part II (which should be out tomorrow in Oz) this weekend. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be paying a single cent, as I’ll be redeeming a free ticket from my cinema’s loyalty programme to go watch Hangover, then sneak into another theatre later to see Pirates.

If it’s any consolation, my method of viewing for the first is legit, and my support for the second’s parent company (Disney) will be through my (hopefully) viewing of Cars 2 in Digital 3D IMAX at the largest theatre in the world at Darling Harbour. Which has killer prices- I’m hoping to get a 10% discount from a tourist voucher, but it’ll still cost 20 Quid. And seeing how US and Australian Dollar is on parity, that’s USD 20 for you Yanks.

Ah… the economics and tactics of cinema trips for the unemployed tertiary student.

Very happy with Pirates’ performance despite the poor critical reviews. KFP2 doing well on RT, and I wish it all the best in America this weekend. Sydney will be getting its premiere two weeks now, and I hope to attend the opening gala.

Loyalty Programme? That sounds fancy! Have a good time.

I wonder if Kung Fu Panda is going to prevail after this coming weekend.

Never saw the first one so…I don’t know.

Let’s see how Pirates keep up on Week 2!

The Hangover 2 is a beast, Hollywood is predicting a 125m+ for the 5-day holyday, such a success, but on the other hand, it seems like Kung Fu Panda 2 is having trouble, in 2 days of release (Thursday and Friday) is hasn’t even top what the first film did on its opening day

I guessed wrong! I thought that KFP would beat The Hangover Part II. I saw the latter, very funny!

I thought the same,On Sarurday it didn’t even top the 20m+, KF Panda 2 domestic numbers are pathetic, what went wrong with audiences???

i’m quite upset KFP2 isn’t doing so well, and yet i’m not sure if i’m /suprised/ or not. i was expecting it to do well, but it /was/ released on thursday, when most kids were still in school (although at my school after wednesday it was like a ghost town around there.)

well, here’s to hoping it picks up /sometime/.

the hangover doubled up on KFP 2! with 2 weeks into the box office, Pirates is almost doing as well as KFP 2, so it looked like it slopped up!

despite of being an animated film “for kids”, I am sure that Pirates 4 stole some kung fu panda 2 audience

Even though I’m a Hangover fan, I defintely didn’t see that coming!

bits&pieces- I doubt it’ll pick up. Usually, as the weeks go buy, a movie will make less than the previous week. Does anyone remember any exceptions to this?

there are some rare cases like Avatar or Titanic, in which their upcoming weeks were bigger than the previous ones, but Kung Fu Panda 2 has no sign to do it

I’m proud to say that I have supported Snowtown, a local Australian film with an $8 voucher, and went to watch the blockbusters Hangover Part II and Pirates 4 instead! And I have no regrets, judging by how well they’re doing at the B.O.

I also watched Water for Elephants today (I got a free voucher which I discovered expires tomorrow) and I snuck into a couple of other theatres for fun to see the trailers and what movies were playing. Two cinema halls were playing Hangover Part II and there were huge turnouts for both (especially for the more expensive one in the large-format VMax). And this is on a Monday night!

I’m glad that Hangover, Pirates, and KFP are doing well. I’m really looking forward to seeing the Panda in a fortnight’s time, and I’ve already ‘sunk’ my investment into a pre-booking with one of my mates.

This seems like an approprate place to post this. But the Hangover Part II has the biggest opening weekend of any comedy film ever, just pushing out the previous record held by Bruce Almighty.

That’s HUGE

Rio may have been knocked down from 6 to 8, but for a movie about a flightless bird, it has incredible mileage!

That’s saying something! It’s raking in a lot of dough for being on the theatre market for a month and a half.

Weekend ACTUALS:

Highest Grossing Memorial Weekend EVER

Hangover 2 breaks records; Kung Fu Panda 2 disappoints expectations; Pirates 4 is still there and Bridesmaids holds superbly

4 DAY Memorial Weekend:

WOW. The Hangover Part II is dominating! I remember before it premiered, saying that Kung Fu Panada would dominate, due to a wider targeted audience. Was I wrong!
