Ah yes, I remember that episode! When 42 developed a very feminine personality. And yes, I remember feeling very upset about poor XR’s plight.
It’s strange how things we might have watched as children in a very innocent manner can have the most adult references and connotations.
Absolutelly,an for some it takes years to get over, it’s just like it was something that they felt happen to them personal, they seen Xr as themself getting their heart broken by 42, an they react to it by doing what most people do in A bad relationship, they start to shun and harden there heart towards it, and get A Apathy and Hate towards all that were involed in the Aching and Hurt coming about, in this cause instead of the person it is the cartoon Buzz Lightyear OSC itself.
I Loved Buzz Lightyear and Xr the most in the series before Mira Nova and Booster, but in all I loved them all, but I feel that in the latter episodes 43-65 (that I did some research on thanks again to my other family and friends, telling me about these episodes,showing me only choice parts in episodes 43-65 as well to state there cause more) that they at Disney really devoloped Xr’s Charater through out the series, Xr as we all no was really A laugh out loud funny guy, but at times he could also so be very serious to , an that only could make me and the others love him all the more.
I believe the reason for this was because through the whole series Of Buzz Lightyear OSC Xr,was become more human like with each Episodes Acts and Events he would face with Buzz Lihtyear,Mira Nova,Booster ect. and therefore he started to take on Emotions and Learn to Teach himself, how to deal with them,in certain situtations and concequences,peril ect.
By the ending of the series Xr would have to face one more emotion Heart Brake and so lead up to 42 Dumping and Rejecting his Love in the last Episode, but still with this we only get oneside out of Xr,and that is only knowing what Aching,Hurt and Heart Brake was,but we never will now get to see him Understand and Attain what really Complete Love and true Joy is. so Walt Disney Television Animation missed the Mark there,it’s really sad and A let down to.

You know, your post really hit the mark. I completely agree with everything you said (or typed). XR was a character truly close to my heart, just as Randall is, because as you pointed out, yes, he was funny and amusing, but there was actually a really sad side to the whole thing- he was only ever a robot, yet he yearned to feel love and be loved just like a human.
I still remember the end of that episode, where XR is rejected by 42, and then he makes some joke because another sexy robot has just walked into the diner where they’re sitting, and he’s suddenly moved onto the next one. That just never felt right to me, but I guess Disney were trying to lighten up the whole thing since it is a kid’s programme after all.
You’re right. Disney had a great oppurtunity there, and they just didn’t take it. I guess they didn’t have much choice, in a way- XR will always be limited by the basic stereotype of being ‘the funny guy’. But there was always the idea in my mind that there was something more to him…
I enjoy discussing these sorts of things, too! I’m pleased you’ve enjoyed talking about this. I haven’t really met many people who have seen XR as something other than ‘the funny guy’.
I’m desperate to watch BLoSC again, but they just don’t show it on TV anymore. Talking about these old episodes is making me pine.
Well my family members and friends of mine gave me A nickname the use, they call me JA from my real name, so

Quite amazing you should bring that up about the Ending of 42, were Xr is sad and griving over the loss of losing 42’s love, and then the next mintue going after the next girl he sees, I was going to say that in my last post to, but I did not know how you would take it, so I decided to see if you would answer that Question for me.
Then I would reply to it,the way that you saw it, an I saw it, since I know we all see it in A diffrent way, you said to the letter,Disney Goverment (Meaning WDTA Developers) as I see it were made of 2 sides in Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command,one wanted Xr to be the Funny and Comic releif guy,and the other side wanted Xr to be A Serious and Dramatic Guy - urr… I mean robot,I keep forgetting Xr is A robot,he seems almost human to me,an I know you,an many others as well.
Now to get back of topic,so since both sides wanted something completely altered in Xr, so in the final turnout we get A real Reward of A Robot seen through many eyes in WDTA Goverment, as Funny, Comedic,Serious,Dramatic,
Emotional,Affectionate,Zealous,Straight Forward,Considering,
Loving,Caring,Reaching,Hopeful, ect. in so many human Attibutes and Charateristics that made him the stand out Charater of Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command after Buzz Lightyear (since most people in the world including me really love him as our friend,brother,and in some cases A Father figure). Xr was someone that all could relate to in one way or another,we felt him to be not just A cartoon charater but As A Family member,one we accepted,taking into our Home (it’s A word I use for Heart’s Love in Our Spirit,also I use it to mean the Spiritual Emotional Home in each of us,that we share with the memories and pictures,feelings,love of family and friends,love ones).
Once Xr was there we started to get to know him beyond his Comdic and Funny ways, but we were now opening up to see Xr as more than that, now we seen Xr as A Loving,Serious,
Compassionate,Loyal,Emotional,Out Reaching,an Carrying Arms, that is Xr became us in A way (I hope I am Not Sounding crazy here to you lizardgirl) I am A very indepth,deep, cartoon fan
and I have been the way you see me now for 11 years since 1996

is were I believe we set ourselves up for Heart Brake and Hurt, Aching, that will more than not come soon after in most cartoons, since everything said and done from this point in the cartoon will be all eyes on our Friend Xr, we will get very attached and close to Xr with each episode aired,till that one episode comes were we see Xr get his heart Torn out by 42, then (remember that part about seeing Xr as us I spoke about earlier) well here is where it really applies itself to each of us (Men and Women alike) when we see Xr getting Rejected by 42, it’s as if Xr (for the Man) was rejected and no longer loved himself, 42 (for the Women) by her rejection of Xr makes the Women (in some cases) feel like they just broke there boyfriends heart not Xr’s, well remember that is just A Theory of mine it doesn’t Apply to all cases,usual it is the Universal Effect of just getting Angry,Mad,Hurt that Xr was given the door by 42,because we see him As A Family Member,Brother,an Father,Uncle,boyfriend,lover,husband ect.

Well, JA, you’ve really got the personality of XR down to a T. I feel exactly the same way about him, and how he was this merging of two completely different sides. The other characters in BLoSC, although memorable and fun, were almost a bit 2D in comparison. But even they had their own secrets and darker sides, as such.
You don’t sound crazy to me at all. Actually, I’ve felt pretty similar to what you’re describing. For so long, there have been certain animated characters, such as XR, that have, for some reason, seemed special and different to the others. I, like you, have formed deep bonds with them, despite the fact that they are not conventially ‘real’. And I’m sure that many others, including probably almost everyone on Pixar Planet, have felt the same way about a certain character or two. In all honesty, that’s what originally got me started down the line of studying Psychology at university. It sounds like a strange connection to make, but it’s true.
Yes, we end up not seeing them as cartoon characters, but more like personalities or even souls.

I think you’re right in your theory. It was almost a devastating blow, in a way. XR had progressed so much throughout the series, and had developed into this amazing, human-like character, and had even managed to fall deeply in love. 42’s rejection of XR and his subsequent reaction was as though a point was being made of, ‘no, XR’s STILL a robot, no matter what!’ If he had fallen into some sort of depression, one could claim that he finally was human, as he’d now experienced the full range of human emotions.
But, unfortunately, Disney decided to go down a different route. XR’s bounce back from 42 was not human-like if you take it at face value, but on the other hand, there might’ve been an underlying trace of denial to help him get through his first official rejection.
Gosh. XR must be quite a character as we’re going into such an in-depth analysis! I’m not hurt by this discussion at all; in fact, I find it quite refreshing. But yes, it is sad that they do not show it on TV anymore. It’s possible to buy the extra-long pilot episode on DVD, but I’m not sure if the series as a whole can be purchased.[/i]

lizardgirl you brought up A intresting subject on seeing cartoon charaters as souls in it’s own right, I myself believe that cartoon charaters resimble or own spirits and souls,well I like to call it our Inner Spirits, I agree with you about most people here feeling the same way about charaters, but they keep it to themselves cause there affraid they might be look down upon and thought to be A Child and Stupid,Strange,Weird,or Unusal but I believe when some here come to look at the posts we posted about this with XR, an they might get the Courage and Strength to speak up in agreeance,support to this,but I perfer it just being a one on one discussion for the time being more it really is alot easier to commune about.

I like Stork to, obcourse after ArroweXPiper and FinnXMaster Cycolnis,then after stork, comes Jumbaa,Radar, I love Storm Hawks because it stands out, and set it’s self apart from the rest on tv today, but sad to say since June 1,2008 Im affraid that Storm Hawks is now Suffering the same Fate As Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command, Cartoon Network U.S.A. has removed it from our Airwaves, for the unseeable future,no word has been said if it will return anytime soon,as it’s life is hanging in the

Yeah I remember that episode too! I really only watched the show because of XR. I found him amusing. But the same thing happens in Futurama when Bender falls in love with the Planet Express ship. Must be something about sci-fi cartoons, the robot has to fall in love with the ship…

As a side note, I was scanning through the Sky planner the other day and realised that Disney Cinemagic had been moved to a different location, as opposed to having been removed altogether (as I had previously thought). So, having refound this channel, I went right through 'til the early hours of the morning and lo and behold, there was BLoSC!
So, it looks as though Wikipedia has got it right this time! Meanwhile, I get to watch an episode of BLoSC everyday and revel in my XR love.
Oddly enough - my brother’s a huge fan of Toy Story, but he’s never watched the series. I don’t think he liked their 2-D-ified version of Buzz - not to say 2-D is bad, just the rendition of it didn’t catch his attention - he was too used to the movie and was quite happy just watching it over and over again.

Actually, i love Toy Story, but the reason i don’t like the series is because it’s not Pixar. 2D doesn’t have as much potential to rock than 3D.
FONY- I completely understand how your brother feels. When I watch BLoSC, my mind rarely makes the connection between the Buzz in that version and the Buzz in the original Toy Storys. It’s almost as though they’re different characters!
That sounds great lizardgirl,im glad that you can watch Buzz Lightyear OSC again,hope that you might record some to keep the memory alive (an keep that XR love and support going ), so you can go back an watch them later,when the day finally does come disney pulls the plug on it. Hehe… well, technically they are different characters. That’s why, for the BLoSC movie (The Adventure Begins, I think…) you see the “3-D” Buzz, Woody and all of them beginning to watch the 2-D film. And as shown in Toy Story 2, there are thooousands of Buzz Lightyears. The 2-D Buzz is supposed to be identified with the actual persona of Lightyear. When I realized that, I just continued to watch the BLoSC Buzz Lightyear and never connected him with Toy Story Buzz. 
I wonder if any of the other space rangers will make an appearance in Toy Story 3.
Aggie- Good point! The only time the two are the ‘same character’ as such, is before Buzz realises that he’s a toy. Then, he does act all cocky and very similar to the Buzz we know from BLoSC. Afterwards, he changes and becomes all depressive.
