Yeah, I agree with that statement of yours except the part when you named Sherlock Holmes among the heroes who aren’t flawed and eccentric, as he’s a master in those two things
And a question. Isn’t anyone around here a Hitchcock fan?
Every time I read that synopsis that says Mater is involved in a “Hitchcockian case of mistaken identity”, I got the joy of my life.
Alfred Hitchcock is one of the most renowned directors in film history, and he had a very distinctive style, focusing primary on crime and thriller films. Hence his nickname “Master of Suspense”.
He had several recurrent themes, and the mistaken identity was one of them, specially in North by Northwest, which I think will be referenced in Cars 2.
So, when a movie uses his recurrent themes and is filmed in his style, it’s called “Hitchcockian”.
PS: And please, kids, don’t fight. We’re all amigos here : (
I don’t like fighting with anyone. She just thought I attacked her, I guess, and told me off for no reason. Me and her are always nice to each other. I don’t understand what made her just hate me out of no where.
I’m sure nobody wants to fight (well for a moment one might think we want, but we always regret it in the end), so let’s just have meaningful talks about the movie in this board
So, yes the “Hitchcockian” thing makes me feel very good, because I’m a fan of him. In fact, I’ve been trying to make a Hitchcock-like short film for a while, but I’ve never counted with a team or with the resources at the same time
And I’ve always wanted Pixar to make a thriller. This is their opportunity to do that, even if it’s a very comedic one! (Hitchcock had a good sense of humor too, even if most people don’t remember that aspect of his movies).
It’s quite surprising to me actually. I would have thought their first thriller would have been a sequel to The Incredibles. Cars is actually the last movie I would think of for a thriller, but I’m so excited. This movie will probably look so good in 3D.
As for that, I’m going to go edit my other post and just take that off. It isn’t worth it.
Thanks for backing me up, x3haijessiex3, but please try to be more congenial towards xCarsLuverx? We’re all Pixateers, and I’m not sure whether there’s a dispute going between you two, but we should all try to make our arguments as clear and level-headed as possible without name-calling (xCarsLuverx) or sarcasm (x3haijessiex3).
I disagree that Cars was made for little kids. It was made for grown-up automotive fans, as well, and I’m pretty sure there are adult audiences (like moi) who appreciate Mater’s down-to-earth sensibilities and honesty.
He has the right to comment on the film, but I do agree that he could’ve phrased it in a less offensive manner. And lord zedd, could you please explain why you think “mater crap tales” “SUCK”?
Good point. I think Lightning and Mater will get equal focus. If you notice, the teaser actually featured the BOTH of them, instead of Mater alone, so I think that’s Pixar’s hint of the main protagonists for this film. Personally, I would’ve liked to discover more about Sally’s character, but I’m sure they’ll have an arc for her as well (Just like they did for Jessie in TS3).
You’re right, if Pixar listens to their fans, I’m sure they’ll add some romantic elements into Cars 2 as well.
Hmmm… yeah, bad example. Maybe Mighty Mouse, or something?
Haha, I knew what you meant by Hitchcockian. The only one I watched was Psycho, and that was when the teacher in my high-school played it for English class. I wonder if John Lasseter will make a cameo, Hitchcock-style?
I’m sure she doesn’t hate you, am I right, xCarsLuverx?
I just took what I said out of my last post. Fighting over Cars, a movie about forgetting the negative and just enjoying life, isn’t worth it. I need to stop embarrassing myself and think about what the heck I’m typing before I type it.
Jessie I wasn’t mad at you and I by no means do I hate you,but the way I operate is that when my buddies do something that bothers me I try to tell them in a calm but firm manner to chill,so I’m absolutely not mad at you…I’m really sorry if I came off that way… and thedriveintheather,I don’t think that was very nice calling me and lord_zedd’s arguments “immature” just because we don’t like a certian character…
Look guys seriously,I know you guys like Mater but, not everybody likes him …And yes there are quite a few people who are sick of Mater,me inculded, just look around…I know some people don’t like Lightning and Sally,ok that’s their problem…no skin off my nose…I don’t mind having Mater in Cars 2 because even though he irratates me to the highest degree he is funny, but at the same time I don’t want most of the movie to be about him…and think about this too…besides being funny, what else is there character-wise?The fact that this all happining is draining my excitement for Cars 2…
I like Mater. I think maybe they(might) do what happened with Toy Story 2.
In the first Toy Story, Woody was the main character, and Buzz was a plot device, placed just to combat Woody and to give a cause for action. However, in Toy Story 2, Buzz became just as important as Woody, even returning Woody’s favor. Don’t you think something similar and positive could happen with Cars? I’m just sayin’…
Mater is lovable but in small quantities is what I’m trying to get at. Overwhelming us with him is just annoying.
I’m going to make an odd analogy, but It’s like cake. In small slices it’s good. But eat the whole cake at once and you’ll probably be sick. Mater is the same. Small=good. Lots=Not so good. But if Pixar could Pull it off, then maybe I will be ok with Mater.
You and zedd weren’t immature because you disliked Mater, but by the way you expressed that opinion. Have a read through my post again and compare the way I argued my points versus your manners of debating.
I’m not scolding y’all or anything (cos’ I’m sure we can all think for ourselves), I only gave a suggestion as to how to conduct yourselves in a kinder manner while still putting forth your opinions, like Spirit of Adventure and Pizza Planet Truck.
Phrases like
and
could be phrased in a less offensive way while still retaining its content.
Me and my brother like Mater’s Tall Tales. I always look forward to a new episode, like how I look forward to Psych or Mythbusters. But everyone has their opinion of the show.
Maters merchandising only comes from his Tall Tales, so really, if you make the merchandise to screen-time ratio have Mater’s Tall Tales in it, then the merchandising rate comes to about equal for Lightning and Mater.
In somewhat related news, a few weeks a baseball coach I was Umpiring for told his kids to “Run like they’re Lightning McQueen down to first base.” That made my day right there.
Like I said, lord_zedd, you’re welcome to express your opinion. If you had justified that statement like you did with the above post, instead of calling it “crap tales” or saying “suck” in capital letters (which would be shouting in forum etiquette), then maybe you’d have come off as less offensive to me.
As to whether Mater’s Tall Tales are inferior to other Pixar shorts, or whether “everybody knows” he has more merchandising, these points can be debated.
What diffrence does it make? They’re making this movie that will be centered around Mater a lot because his merchindise sells, and it’s not from those “Cars toons” too…That’s what ticks me off. I don’t care about Lightning because he was the main character to begin with,it’s just Mater…I think it shows what kind of company you are to make a who movie based around one character who dosen’t even deserve the attention he’s getting, but is getting it because his merchindise sells…I know that’s why because why couldn’t they include other characters if they wanted to expand the story,it’s just…sad…
