I think “Cars 2” will be good. keep in mind that the last time Pixar made a sequel it was deemed better than the original. Pixar could also see this as a way to correct the mistakes it had before. The story of Lightning and Mater going international sounds like it has potential, so I’m willing to give it a chance.
i seriously CAN’T BELIEVE they are actually going through with a sequel to Cars.
I mean, aside from being their least spectacular movie, Cars (in my opinion) is just unsequelable. Everything come to a logical conclusion in the end, so I think they’re gonna have a really hard time in story.
Anyway, as you probably guessed, I think it’s a bad thing, because they seem to be going through with it only because the first one was a HUGE commercial success. And to me, that kind of shallow sequeling is just un-PIXAR, plain and simple.
I don’t think it’ll be that great, but I could be wrong! (i hope i am!)
WHY ARE YOU DOUBTING PIXAR? WHEN DID THEY EVER MAKE A BAD MOVIE?
So please be patient.
ummm… “Cars”
A113- I stand by my pessimistic viewpoint that a good track record does not mean that every film they release will be as good as their last. Yes, it will be a good film, but they can’t keep raising the bar every time.
And this pessimistic viewpoint means that if it is an amazing film, then I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
FYI it wasn’t bad.And the funny thing the same people who critise John Lassiter’s work are the same people that call him a genius .Their gonne have a sequel weather you people like it or not .Yay cars sequel!
TS2: Oh, you didn’t like Cars, eh? Why?
LG: Be optimistic! Cars 2 is gonna totally rock.
L&S: You tell 'em!
Cars 2! Cars 2! Cars 2!
The only time Pixar messes up is when they’re in a hurry to get their movie trailers done. For example, the Cars trailer was pretty bad, and I almost didn’t see the film, but I’m glad I did! It’s awesome!!!
READ THIS LIGHTNINGANDSALLY:
hey, I don’t like Cars becuase the jokes, for some strange reason, they just get to me becuase they got progressively weirder and made me say “What?” so much to distract me from the story (the police car: “hope you enjoyed the show!” I mean, WTF IS THAT???), and there were parts of it (the story, where it falters) that distracted me from actually liking the movie and caring for the characters. And I thought Lightning McQueen was sooooooo whiny that he annoyed me and didn’t really change until sooooooooooo much later that the end of the story didn’t exactly work for me. I 'm sorry if you enjoyed it, but its minor flaws added up to more than what the real film had its own problems with (for me). Anyway, I also don’t like Larry the Cable Guy a lot. I think when they didn’t have good ideas for funniness or story, they kept going back to him and it came off as using and touting him too much. I did like the score and the other music though, but in story and in jokes, I really don’t know what PIXAR was thinking, cuz all their other films are genius (Ratatouille, anyone?) Anyway, that’s what I think. I’d give Cars a C+. I know it’s harsh, but I’m entitled to my opinion.
And we are entitled to ours. Like I’ve said before, maybe Cars 2 will be one of those rare sequels that’s better than the original. And I learned long ago not to pre-judge Pixar’s films. I really wont judge them harshly until I’ve seen them. And for me, luckily I’ve never had to judge them harshly
TS2: Sorry, but L&S and I are both “Lightning + Sally = LOVE” fans.
All those jokes? They didn’t really bother me (except for the fart jokes) mainly because it was a depiction of Americans.
That didn’t help too much, did it? Sorry that you don’t like it.
Well, you know what since you are a “smarty pants” about movies like I said you are entitled to your own opinion, but I think ultimatley it doesn’t matter cause there are some people who really like cars. And for you information Lightning is not like that !!!He changed but obviously you were too busy bashing the movie to pay attention to that .And I suppose you don’t like John Lassiter too.If you hate cars so much why don’t you protest about CARS 2 .
ok, ok, ok… look, it’s just my opinion
(p.s. i love life don’t come to my house 2nite and kill me in my sleep).
Well, based on your avatar…nah, too easy. XD
L&S: You tell 'em! high five
I think I’ve voiced my opinion in several other threads about this, but yes! Go Cars 2, because its a Pixar film! Cars definitely was not as bad as you said it was, TS2, in my quite humble (yet correct) opinion.
Pixar will continue to deliver no matter what number suffixes a title. I have the upmost faith in them.
I really just like Cars for the effects and some of the characters, and the video game that came out though Lightning cries like a baby 'cause of the slightest scuffle.
Well, when the sequel comes out, I know I’ll see it in hopes it’ll make me either appreciate the first even more, or make me like both even more. Depends. I’ll not be nasty about it, though I must say Cars was more popular for kids (usually boys) 10 and under. Can’t blame them - the die-casts were so addicting and awesome even I bought a bunch! xD
Anyways, best of luck to the sequel!
Cars was better than people give it credit for. I like the idea for the sequel, the whole international thing, but i’m worried about the director. The only thing he’s done is produce Ratatouille. I could understand him directing Cars 2 if he directed some shorts or was a co director on a feature, but he hasn’t done any of that. I dont know, maybe he’ll prove me wrong and make a Pixar classic. No matter who directs it, i’d love to see Lightning Mcqueen on the big screen again.
I didn’t think Cars was awful, but it was definitely my least favorite Pixar movie (granted that means its still leagues better than most movies). Sorry Cars fans, but I don’t think it really needs a sequel. Of course I trust Pixar and I’m hoping I like it better than the first, but I’m not sure how that will happen. Granted I am biased because I’ve just never been that into cars. They help with traveling, but I never was the type to play with car toys or be remotely interested in NASCAR. So no matter what I’m gonna start with a pretense of not really interested. And like many said Cars didn’t really end with a “needs a sequel” feel. I really think most Pixars end so well that they shouldn’t continue. The only Pixars (excluding Toy Story since it already has a 2nd and now a 3rd) I feel that could do a sequel without me questioning why would be Incredibles and Monsters Inc. Those are the only “worlds” that I really feel could be expanded on. But even then I like Pixar better creating original works instead of often unnecessary sequels (i.e. Disney & Dreamworks Animated).
I feel almost as if Pixar wants to give Cars (Over any other film that could’ve been better off with a sequel) a second chance at getting to be a huge success.
I mean, Cars was a success, and was overall good, but according to most people, it wasn’t up there with the quality of other Pixar films. I think Pixar is aware of that by now. Just a hunch.
Anyways… Would I want a sequel?
I’d rather not have a sequel of any of their films… I feel that they should keep the films in their original stories, and not continue into a potential down slope of sequels.
So overall, I think Cars is good the way it is now, and doesn’t need a sequel. I feel it would be better if Pixar looks more into making original stories with fresh faces (Like they have been doing all these years), and continue to expand the world of Pixar into many different names.
All in all, like any other Pixar film, I will definitely be excited for Cars 2, and see it as soon as possible when it hits theaters, it’s just I feel sequels are not always necessary.
I think that the sequalisation of Cars and Toy Story is to completely offset the more “noncommercial” of Pixars offerings.
For every Ratatouille, and presumably, Up!, there needs to be, from a sound financial perspective, a Merchandising Behemoth. Cars and Toy Story fill that void very well.
I think that Cars 2, from a box office angle, now has the potential to become the biggest Animated movie of all time, them not making it is leaving alot of money on the table.
Now that Pixar is on a 3 movie per18 month timetable, i am happy if one is a sequel, and two are new properties, especially if it allows much more risky outings as Ratatouille and Up! to exist in between the merchandising mammoths that Pixar can also create.
It will probably go something like this;
2008 Wall E
2009 SUMMER Up!
2009 WINTER Toy Story 3D
2010 WINTER Toy Story 2 3D
2010 SUMMER Toy Story 3
2011 WINTER Newt
2011 SUMMER The Bear and the Bow
2012 SUMMER Cars 2
2013 SUMMER John Carter of Mars
2013 WINTER New Risky IP
2014 SUMMER The Incredibles 2/Monsters Inc 2
2015 SUMMER John Carter Continuation (if the three movie rumour is true)
2015 WINTER New Risky IP
2016 SUMMER Toy Story 4/Cars 3/Wall E 2/Newt 2/Incredibles 2/Monsters Inc 2
and so on.
I really dont think that Monsters will be sequalised or that Toy Story will go past version 3, I also have not seen Wall E and unfortunately wont until September, so am unaware of its sequel potential. Incredibles, I do think will go ahead, with or without Birds input, he may not wish to direct, but no doubt will have story ideas that the film can go on whilst he works on 1906, which I dont think will be regarded as a Pixar release, and then perhaps he will come back to do something new at Pixar. He doesnt srike me as the kind of guy who would enjoy doing a sequel.
So I guess my answer, selfish as it may seem, is that Cars 2 is definitely a good idea.
I have to admit, cordonbleu, that if Pixar ever did anything like that timeline you’ve written out, it would actually be my worst nightmare. Aside from Toy Story 3, I’d be very upset if any other sequels were made. I can see that Cars 2 is a likelihood, and I’ll wait until I’ve actually seen the film before judging it, but I believe that as much effort as possible should be focused on the new, original films.
Financially, do Pixar really need the sequels? It seems to me that both Toy Story 3 and Cars 2 (TS3 in particular) are being made because Pixar want to make those films, not because they’ll make loads of money. I mean, look at WALL-E- it seems to be making more money than any other Pixar film, and it’s original. Pixar have built themselves up as a brand to be trusted by adults and children alike, and sequalisation of all of their movies will just alienate their audience.
