Cars 2 : Is it a good or bad thing?

cordonblu: Concerning 2014 and 2016 prediction, PIXAR has already made it very clear they will only sequel something if they have a good story for it. So, don’t expect them to start sequelling everything (Esspecially Toy Story 4, seeing how they were kinda pushed into Toy Story 3 to begin with). The probably have more original ideas on the way.

…Of course, if they did get a good plot for a WALL-E 2, I’d be jumping up and down with joy and happiness waiting to go see it, but that’s beside the point.

Honestly, I would’ve been fine with it, but the fact it’s not even gonna be directed by the big JL and the plot (I read it on YouTube)
[spoil]Lightning goes on a big trip with Mater around the world[/spoil] doesn’t seem Pixar-magic worthy. Oh, well. Maybe It’ll surprise me.

I agree. Reminds me of the plot the Circle 7 lab made for the dreaded non-Pixar-made Toy Story 3.

Still won’t doubt Pixar until they make an absolute bomb. But I have to say this one worries me quite a bit.

Hi,

I know of John Lasseters PR speak, which is always going to be what we want to hear. They are not going to say they are cashing in from the outset, but rather that their Art dictates Profits and not the other way around.

In reality Disney/Pixar animation, meaning John Lasseter as he is in charge of both greenlit a sequel to Cars and Toy Story, both huge money makers, and knew that regardless his enormous Talent Trust at Pixar would be able to come up with a brilliant concept for each to exist, and execute that concept into high quality films.

I dont think there will be another Toy Story movie after 3. I do think there will be one more Cars movie after 2 to make the trilogy, and I’d imagine that the Incredibles will be the movie Sequel after Cars 2, Hollywood and Marketing execs seem to like Trilogies, Lord of the Rings cemented that in their brains. Myself being a big DVD collector love the idea of the Toy Story trilogy box set we are going to get with special features galore, and made for the DVD’s Toy Story shorts, and I bet Disney knows they could sell alot of them and will of the Cars and Incredibles ones to follow.

I think that as Pixar is now able to release Three movies every eighteen months, one being a surefire hit by being a sequel to a large established franchise allows them to be much more risky and creative with their original concepts in between.

i.e. For every Ratatouille and Up! there needs to be a Wall E.

Of if you look at it future wise we have,

2008-2010 Wall E -----> Up! -----> Toy Story 3

2011-2012 Newt -----> The Bear and the Bow -----> Cars 2

to the great unknown,

2013-2014 John Carter of Mars -----> NEW ORIGINAL CONCEPT -----> The Incredibles 2

(or if you like,

GAMBLE -------> GAMBLE -------> WIN BIG!)

Book ending their new IP with movies, that although sequels, will ignite the Box Office and the Merchandising arms of the company can offset any potential risk that the unknown ones may have. When they have a break out such as Wall E, which will be both a merchandising and box office bonanza, it cements their brand and will now allow for exploration of that IP for future use. A movie like Ratatouille however, although a Box Office and critical hit, let the company down from a merchandising standpoint, happily though that does not mean that they will now only make movies with huge merchandising potential, because they already have that covered with upcoming movies like Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

I think this is how its going to be, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. My one fear is that John Carter of Mars is being made as three films from the start as speculated elsewhere on the net, and is going to eat up alot of the original movie slots.

when i knew about that project my first reaction was : NOOOOO!
but with the time i learned that pixar is pixar u know, even when a car’s sequel looks very bad, is pixar and we know that its gonna be awsome no matter what plot can b 4 the movie, pixar’s quality is work with a good animation, the way to tell the story, the characters and other things, besides lightning mcqueen is still hoping to win the piston cup, and what happened with the love between mcqueen and sally… cars don’t have a definetely final like finding nemo or ratatouille. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m already SUPER-excited 4 Newt!!!
R they really considering a sequel, Disney_Guy

And really Cars isn’t all that bad. The music’s the best part, and I actually think it’s better than a lot of other stuff by other companies.

I liked Cars a lot. Just didn’t think it needs/deserves a sequel. It’s like if they tried to make a sequel for Ratatouille. What for? It wrapped up nicely.

Still, it’s Pixar. They deserve the benefit of the doubt. But let’s just say this is the movie I’m most concerned with in their future.

the one movie that NEEDS a sequel is Monsters, Inc.

I respectfully disagree. Monster’s Inc. has one of the best endings to a Pixar movie. You don’t need a sequel to MI because it is just perfect the way it ended.

Yeah, watching MI again yesterday really made me realise how much I’d enjoy a sequel. But I doubt it will ever happen.

I’d rather that Pixar put their efforts towards original movies, rather than saying “Oh, that movie was great so that means it needs to be extended upon” because it doesn’t! You can appreciate a movie for what it is without having to make a sequel, in fact in my eyes, an unnecessary sequel somewhat ruins the first.

Am I the only one who thought that the malfunctioning Buzz plot was a funny idea?

It’s hard for me to say what movies can constitute a sequel, really. I mean, I never would have thought the original Toy Story needed a sequel and maybe that’s why I liked it. The sequel is, yes, connected to the original. But both have the ability to stand by themselves. Maybe it was because I was just a kid at the time, but I never thought, “well what happens now?” because to me at the time it had a pretty clean cut ending. Maybe that’s why when Toy Story 2 came around I was a little surprised (but not disappointed!).

I’m not a Cars hater, I enjoyed the first, and I think Pixar will continue their trend of making worthy sequels, so it is clearly a good thing.

I totally agree. It’s rare a company makes a good sequal to a past film, but Pixar made an exception with Toy Story 2. Let’s hope they keep it up for Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

I loved Cars and I hope they do make a sequel to it

disneyfreak- Welcome to Pixar Planet!
You don’t have to hope anymore… It’s official!

very good I love Cars it is so funny when the two cars refused to help Lighting Mcqueen what was your favourite scene from it

I think that’s awesome that they’re making a sequel. Cars deserves it, the third one was just… hard to explain how awesome it was. wait, wait, (I don’t know what this means but…) It was phenomenal!!

:sunglasses:

I personally think that in Cars 1, Lightning achieved the kind of personal development of personal maturity. i.e. caring about more than himself . The second level of character development past thet is Social Maturity, which means he inspires and helps others. I can see the potential for Cars 2 to end up on an even higher note. Besides, compared to NASCAR-type racing, there is a plethora of other styles and disciplines of racing in the world which are arguably more difficult to master and include more than simply turning left (even though it may mean steering right ). If you loved Guido, Luigi, Sarge, Fillmore, Ramone, etc. just think of all the great characters the writers that Pixar can dream up on a world-wide scale. I can just imagine Lighting racing against…A REAL FERARRI!!!
