Wow, I woke up in a bad mood today and this bit of news just perked me up! Talk about a great start to the day, Pixar-style!
I love the idea of a [spoil]five-staged ‘grand tournament’ through the various racing disciplines[/spoil]. The idea of [spoil]Mater having his own ‘espionage adventure’ sounds great too, and I can’t wait to see the J.B. lookalike (Aston Martin=Kick-*ss!). I hope they get Connery, Dalton or Craig to voice the British agent (Although I wouldn’t mind the others, too)[/spoil].
I’ve said before Cars is like my ‘dream movie’ come true (as I’m a massive petrolhead). But this just takes the cake, Car Flick +[spoil]Spy Movie[/spoil] = EPIC WIN! My two most-loved genres in my favourite medium! Holy cow!
TDIT: I couldn’t agree with you more about [spoil]The British Secret Agent…[/spoil] I’ve been bouncing ideas off everyone… and have an Ideal Idea of whom should play it… [spoil]Obviously we have the cast of Bond… but then Connery’s retired, Craig Still is Bond, Dalton is now in Toy Story 3, Brosnan doesn’t have the smooth voice of Moore and the other dude… who cares…[/spoil] I’ve thought of [spoil]Michael Sheen (Welsh Actor: The Queen, Underworld, Burton’s Alice in Wonderland), Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Rowan Atkinson (Bean), Simon Pegg or even Christian Bale… Or I could Brush up the Accent a bit and I could play him![/spoil] [spoil]Although I do have Bad Gut Feelings of Russell Brand or Hugh Grant[/spoil] I’ve been skippy about it since I read it earlier on my other forum, mainly cause its a cool sounding Character and I’ve already got Signature Ideas running thought my little brain!
I just would like Pixar to use other “petrol heads” in the UK when they do the movie… My Perfect Dream is for Top Gear Presenter (Brainiac, UK Total Wipeout, Blast Lab) Richard Hammond to be in the feature as he is one of the best tv presenters with natural comic timing in Britain Today, and he would do much better than Clarkson did in the first one as Harv.
I thought you were kidding until I Googled it… holy crap! He’s [spoil]one of my favourite Bonds purely because of License to Kill[/spoil]! But voicing a [spoil]wannabe-stage actor hedgehog[/spoil]? Freakin’ wicked! Pixar has good taste, it’s like they read our thoughts or somethin’! Another awesome reason to watch Toy Story 3, hoo hoo! (Yeah, I’m easy to please)
I think ‘the other dude’ is [spoil]George Lazenby, which I thought was pretty good too, cos’ OHMSS was severely underrated like LTK[/spoil]… but I digress. I wouldn’t mind [spoil]GL[/spoil] voicing [spoil]the spy[/spoil] either…
I’ve not really watched any [spoil]Michael Sheen or Stephen Fry flicks… Rowan Atkinson, Simon Pegg and Hugh Laurie have comedic conotations, so I don’t know whether that would work… I’m not sure if I want to hear Bale’s gravely voice again… I hope to God Russell Brand or Hugh Grant do not voice the agent, that would be so lame![/spoil]
I think a good choice would be [spoil]Clive Owen, he was rumoured to be the next 007, and his voice ain’t bad either… I haven’t heard your Welsh accent, so I have no idea how good you’d turn out, haha![/spoil]
I would love for Hammond to play a role… maybe as a reporter in the [spoil]London segment[/spoil]. I think the [spoil]international races[/spoil] gives a lot of opportunities for voice talents [spoil]from those countries… I’d love Sung Kang to voice a ricer in Japan (he did Tokyo Drift and an episode from Knight Rider), Schumacher already had a voice role in the first, but he could make a return for the German leg… I can’t think of any Italian automotive celebrities… maybe Alain Prost for France… and the Brit celebrities you mentioned for the London race[/spoil]. The possibilities for cameos are endless!
It sounds…okay, I guess. The whole ‘round the world’ thing has always been a completely unappealing idea to me anyway, since one of the things I really loved about the original Cars was its background and where it was set. Just chucking the characters about into a whole bunch of places makes me feel as though the film won’t have a definite atmosphere, which would be a shame.
British secret agent? Not only unoriginal but seemingly random at the moment. It just sounds as though Cars 2 is going to completely lose track of its routes and just go off on this tangent just because it can.
I do realise that I’m being overly negative and people will say ‘never doubt Pixar!’ and other such things, but it’s just my opinion and if I go and see the film and I’m proven wrong, well, I won’t complain.
The plot does sound like there’s a lot packed into it. Although I’m not totally sold on Mater being crew chief. Or ‘pit boss’. What does Mater know about that? I guess being at all of Lightning’s races qualifies him (since I assume he’s been at more than just the Piston Cup race…) So much going on with the story could be a lot to juggle. But it’s still quite a ways away. I cant give a real verdict until I see it anyway
