Cars Blu-Ray DVD

This is what Ben over at Anamated Views says about the

Cars Blu-Ray DVD:

With the recent announcements that Warners are LG Electronics are

looking for ways to dampen the format war between HD-DVD and Sony?s Blu-Ray high definition videodiscs, we might

all feel a little more relieved to hear Disney?s first big animation plans for their format of choice, Blu-Ray.

Buena Vista are, it is reported by The Digital Bits, on the verge of announcing their first batch of lead titles

for the new year, with recent animated fare Chicken Little and Cars coming out as early as March, according to

the statement.

Many of the titles will take advantage of Blu-Ray?s 50gb storage capacity, ?enabling

the highest caliber encodes, expanded bonus material and exciting new interactive features?, though whether the

animated titles mentioned will be of this variety remains to be seen. What this means is that Cars has been, as

expected, on the drawing board as an ?ultimate release? for a while now, and its June release date coming in time

for Ratatouille?s theatrical bow is no surprise. Buena Vista?s Bob Chapek says that ?Blu-ray is the strongest

high definition format on the market and with dual-layer 50GB discs the possibilities for exciting new

interactive features and additional bonus content are endless?.

Let?s wait and see if the director?s

commentaries - missing on Chicken Little and Cars initial DVDs, turn up this time, but I?m not going to be at all

surprised if they do, and as interactive video features at that. I?m sure John Lasseter, who was full of praise

for the skimpy Cars disc put out in November, will be jumping through hoops of fire over what they come up with -

and should have given us first time around.

So?2007? Gonna be just like 2006, it seems, with the consumers

still getting suckered in for the old double-dip switcheroo! Let?s all jump on for the

ride?

Thanks Ben!

This is wonderful news – thank you for putting this up, JV! Or, should I say, much obliged

Ben.

Unfortunately, to play a Blu-Ray disc one needs a specific dvd player

for the thing, which means extra money to shell out of one’s pockets. However, judging by the sheer quality,

interactive featurs, and capacity (50GB?! My gosh…) of the discs, I suppose it is ultimately worth the wait and

dough.

I understand that Finding Nemo will be released on a Blu-Ray disc, as

well. Looks like I have no choice but to buy it, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the information,

JV!

No

problem Mitch.

Heheh – by the way, have any of you guys seen the Disney “Blu-Ray”

commercial/trailer? My sister and I thought it was just hilarious – we started memorizing it, it was so funny.

Yeah I’ve seen it, it’s funny!

Wait, so … just more special features? Great. I’m a sucker for those. Ah well. I’ll be

sure to get just the ones of my favorite films.

I like the commercial for it 'cause they have Jackie

Chan from ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ … I always feel I’m the only one who even

remembers the film.

As far as clearness goes, I don’t mind it. The DVDs are

clear enough for me- can’t get much clearer than they already are … besides, it’s all just to take your

money.
I know this had happened with VHS but … well, I enjoy my VHS’s, because I’m finding more problems

with DVDs … it’s much easier to play, and quicker for me, anyways.

Sigh While that’s cool and all, I was really hoping they’d release a regular DVD.

I just dont have the money to buy a blu-ray player. So I guess i’ll have to be out of the loop…

JV - Heheh – yeah, it’s

hilarious. “Wouldn’t it be easier if it all just…blew away?” :stuck_out_tongue:

lennonluvr - Yeah – exactly. That’s my problem as well. You don’t have

the dough you can’t watch the show, but oh well. Maybe one of these days they’ll alter the Blu-Ray discs so

that people will be able to play them on regular dvd players. prays

I always wait until things go

down in price. Cheap, yes, but smart. Besides, DVDs aren’t an absolute necessity. I wish they could at least

make them compatible with regular DVD players- that would make more sense.

FONY - Yeah – my mom does the same thing: she waits for the prices to go down.

And I agree: they should make the discs compatible on regular dvd players, as well. But they can’t do

that – they wouldn’t get more money that way. :stuck_out_tongue:

Quoted for

Truthery. I almost never try to get a product the second it’s released because - A: It’s too expensive, and -

B: In cases like modern Gaming Consoles, it’s likely to be riddled with bugs. The only products I tend to buy

ASAP are Pixar Movies and Books. Come on, Deathly Hallows!

It’s nice that

they’re releasing it on Blu-Ray, but I hope they take this opportunity to release the 2-Disc DVD at the same

time. They’re not dying out for a while, methinks.

Yus, I think

they’ll still have DVDs for quite some time. Remember they did take a while to stop making VHSs for every new

DVD. I mean, I got a Tarzan 2 tape! O_o For some unknown reason. Appeared in my tape cabinet one day. But Tarzan

2 was pretty recent I think.

I’m also hoping they still release a 2-disc. I dont

think dvds have run their course yet either. It wouldnt boost sales much to release something that only a few

would be able to have. Nobody I know has a blu-ray player. To quote my friend Dawn who used to work at Best Buy

"Blu-ray isnt worth getting now or for a very long time. Besides there’s no one that dumb to get one since

it’s $1000" Obviously I’d have to wait till the price came down.

I would also

like to add that, by waiting a few months or even years to purchase a Blu-Ray player, by the time you get one

more new titles (Pixar included) will be available for the player itself. That way, when you finally get the

player, there will be more films to choose from.

Blu-ray won’t catch on. It’s the same thing as the VHS vs Beta war back in the 80s, it’s not a matter of

which was better (Beta was a much better format) it all comes down to which came out first. It’s not that much

better for the higher price and people are still adapting to the DVD.

Dash - Exactly – which is why I probably won’t

be getting the Blu-Ray player, unless I just can’t take it anymore and have to watch Nemo in a very

high-definition format, but that’s highly unlikely. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dvds, in my opinion, are just fine for me. They

are fairly inexpensive now-a-days, and even more so compared to those Blu-Ray players/discs. Who cares about the

quantity of the thing, really? It’s the quality and story of the films that you buy that matters.

June 5th

Yay – finally! I probably won’t be getting it unless it

is a 2-disc dvd, however, and even then I won’t be able to afford it. Oh well…

Thanks for the news,

JV.

I didn’t want to have to start a new thread about this…

But I have you noticed on

the regular DVD (not the blu-ray) the default audio selection is Dolby Surround 2.0. Everytime I watch the movie

I have to go into setup and select Dolby Surround 5.0.

Why wouldn’t they just have it as Dolby 5.0 as

default?

aZnCdn - Not a real

audiophile here…But are you sure you have 5.0? Or are you sure your reciever set up right?
