Central Brave Discussion

Yeah. But still, I’m probably going to wait until the finish product comes out to give my thoughts.

Oh yeah, same. I like to see a film without any preconceptions.

Yep. I remember them saying the work in progress version of Finding Nemo being just average.

In fairness, I think that was to do with Michael Eisner losing it a bit

I see Brave opening like Ratatouille where it opens pretty small. I think this because people might avoid this because of Cars 2 and them thinking the company would be going downhill. Which might be pretty stupid but that’s what I think. But the film will probably do good overseas with the Scottish setting. Those types of films usually perform good there.

I will hate if it does bad at first because of Cars 2. Every compnay has a bad film and Pixar had their’s, it’s time to move on from that.

Yep. I hope that Pixar learned from their mistakes and move on to their future.

I’m not worried about Brave. It looks great.

Me neither. I’m actually excited to see how Pixar does doing a fairy tale.

The part I like best about Brave so far is how the main character is a female. It’s about time! Don’t get me wrong, I love all the Pixar leading males, but it’s nice for them to switch it up and recognize that females can be in the front seat as well.

I agree. In fact, I don’t really think there have been many female leads in animated films in several years.

I read some people thought they were kinda sexist for not having a female lead. Good thing Merida is here to stop that.

Yeah, I think there is a major lack of female animators and consequently female directors and producers in the industry. If you take Disney out of the equation, when did we last have a female lead in a mainstream CG film?

It is nice to see change every once in a while!

RE that screening review, Jim Hill Media actually had some articles about Finding Nemo and WALL-E receiving lukewarm test screening reactions too. So it’s not entirely unprecedented.

Also, Brenda Chapman acknowledged in a recent interview that the story still had problems that are being worked on.

Not just animation, but the film industry in general.

Disney still made us wait 4 monts for up though! 8D

There’s sadly a lack of women in even more aspects of film, and it makes me terribly disappointed. Just looking at my university’s film classes and whom I speak to online, who writes articles or blogs about films, etc., it’s usually men. I don’t understand it. :frowning:

I don’t know if Pixar is even trying to be sexist or negligent by not having a female lead, but I think they’re worried they won’t be able to do her justice, and additionally a lot of their stories just fit male leads better. Really, a good storyteller should be able to step into anyone’s shoes, be it their gender or another, but whatever. That’s why I’ve always liked Hayao Miyazaki; MOST of the Ghibli movies are centered around a female.

I hope things are settled at Pixar for this film following the little fiasco for the director’s spot.

Does Disney have more female or male leads?
