Probably males for a slight margin, but I’d say it’s very balanced.

I would make a list, but I’m busy now 8D

I don’t see what’s the probleam with a female lead. It kinda reminds me of back in the olden days when blacks rarely got a part.

I don’t think it’s the same at all.

I think queen_of_painting is closer to the truth: Most writers are men, and it’s very difficult for a lot of them to step in the shoes of a female character.

I counted my Disney movies and found about 10-12 female-fronted Disney films, mainly princess ones. There were more exclusively fronted by males (maybe 12-15?), and then another good amount that’s about half and half, such as Lady and the Tramp.

I would love to see more women in major positions of the animation industry, such as directing.

How many woman go into directing? Maybe that’s the probleam.

Wasn’t Brenda Chapman the only female to direct an animated film?

KFP2’s director was a woman.

That is also a problem. Considering that half the population is female and it took until very recently for the first Best Director Oscar to go to a woman, that says something’s wrong at the core of glass ceilings and filmmaking.

I mean, part of the problem may possibly be the number of women interested in filmmaking, not necessarily animation, but I believe that has to do with a lack of female role models within the industry. There is sort of a glass ceiling, a secret sign telling women that their pursuit of a career in something such as directing will be a very difficult one.

Well, some of us are doing it now

Oh. I haven’t seen Kung Fu Panda 2 yet so I wasn’t sure about that.

A guys can also make a female lead too. The PowerPuff Girls was made by a guy. It just needs to be done in more films like this.

This is something I’ve wondered about too. I mean, I took a course in 3D animation at college and there was only one girl in the class.

I highly suggest you watch the film Miss Representation. It is a fantastic documentery (one reason I like it so much is it’s lack of bias. It shows how our society’s treatment of woman harms both sexes, and in it’s section of woman in politics features sexism from both parties, not just one)

It explores how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women

The main reason of the misrepresentation of woman in media is because that media corporations are largely lead by males. Sure, there’s usually one or two woman on the board. But it is incredibly unbalenced.

There’s a whole section of the film that concerns itself with woman filmmakers, and how difficult is is for their stories to be told. And it effects what movies, music videos, and literature that are made, and can misrepresent woman immensly.

People are under the impression that gains are being MADE for woman, but actually it’s not. For example, the 2010 elections were the first time in 40 years that seats held by woman were lost.

And now more than ever do we need the woman’s voice, parity isn’t being reached.

Okkay, I know tihs isn’t Brave related. But this post is relevent to the fact that Merida being Pixar’s first female lead, and questions were raised about woman in media. And I think this documentery is very important. I highly reccomend it, especially if you’re an American woman.

^I’ve seen that trailer before, and it really does blow my mind. I feel pretty strongly about gender equalism but I don’t often realize that I do until I see things like the footage and other clips in that trailer. Really powerful…

What do toy think the Brave theme will look like? I see a dark green background with the characters in it of course and “Pixar Planet Forums” in the lettering of Brave.

I think that’s what it will look like too.

Looks very cool! Thanks for sharing with us!

This image is exactly like a previous released one but with a different face. Curious.

I’ve not checked out some more information about Brave recently. All I’ve seen is the teaser trailer. I’ll see it when it comes out though.

My mistake, not only the head is different, but also the waist and cloak.
