Central Brave Discussion

ok everyone needs to calm down…seriously. the trailer is NOT the movie. its a trailer (not really though) its a spoof made to be silly. and the end part might be funnier to you when you watch the full clip in the movie because we’ll know wat will be happening.

As Leirin, I don’t care about a spoof trailer being made, it’s the particular joke at the end which enrages me (I think it will be in the film, sans the labels, which only will make it worse)

Also as I said in the previous situation, I DO NOT CARE if the joke is funny in the particular context it will have. It’s tasteless in any scenario.

This one made me chuckle, actually. I think it’s a funny Ralph Lauren spoof (“Ruff McLauren”), and I’m sure they’ll include some of the clips in the movie, at least the ones of the Highland games. But I really wish they’d give us a featurette about the Three Lords! They don’t have to tell us exactly what their roles are, but they’re being treated like simple comic relief right now. They’re supposed to be major characters, right? I especially want to see if Lord Dingwall will do more for the story than the “Feast yer eyes!” gag that they keep playing over and over.

I think all of us were distracted by the joke at the end of the trailer and we didn’t notice something else: Brave received its rating from the MPAA. It’s rated PG for “some scary action and rude humor.”

Has a Pixar film ever gotten a rating that mentioned “rude humor”? I’m actually concerned by this

Good catch. I suppose that confirms our concern.

How disappointing that they’ve chosen to go this way just too get a few easy laughs from the lesser audiences.

I absolutely agree with you, that really annoys me. I’m certainly not as excited for it as I was a few months ago.

Interesting. A lot of great PG movies do though. Didn’t Lilo & Stitch have the “rude humor” label for its rating?

I’m concerned, but not too worried.

a mothers day video from brave; shows a lot of heart in the film between merida and her ma

It’s kind of insane how tonally varied the Brave stuff has been so far. Just compare the NFL spot to the Mother’s Day promo. I can’t really think of another Pixar movie that had promos that were so different, they usually generally trend toward the humorous side with a hint of emotion.

Was that our first look at young Merida?

Also, I’m pretty sure they showed us the finale there :-\

also interesting to note, the song in that promo is an original song made for the movie as its on the soundtrack. Julie Fowlis is singing.

…I’m seriously on the verge of tears right now.

Ooh, if it has potential spoilers I won’t watch, thanks for the observation, Spirit.

The warning worries me, but at the same time Brave seems to have so much to offer beyond it. When you watch the Japanese trailers or this new TV spot or the clip with the Gaelic music, you see an entirely different film from the one where bears are bouncing into a woman’s chest (honestly, that alone was probably enough to merit a “rude humor” warning). I’m hoping that this humor will be restricted to the scenes we’ve seen thus far and we’ll see more of the “scary action”- after all, that came first in the warning! If Pixar wants to develop characters, Merida’s story, and the relationship between her and the king and queen, they won’t have much time to devote to this. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

Even with bad jokes like this I’m still exctied for this.

But if this is their future, I’m wondering how bad it will be when Lasseter and all retire.

I think this was one of the best clips released so far.

I concur, tough I would have preferred if they hadn’t throw in that clip from the ending.

That promo was incredible. I loved it.

I really hope it’s a better representation of the final product. Because that was definitely pure Pixar.

the movie was given a PG rating by the MPAA for being dark and having rude humor. is this their first PG rating for a pixar film? i don’t think its a big deal, jw.

No, this is the third PG rating. First was The Incredibles and second was Up.

Leirin is right. Although Cars 2 dodged that since it was cars being blown up.
