I think some of the chacters have better jokes then Mater. His best joke by far is the “He did what in his cup.” Because it’s actally funny.

I do like Mater. He is pretty funny and adorable but not as the main character.

I saw a race in Paris like Le Mans during 24 hours it’s very funny because mater is worried about being a spy and he’s trying to stop the race. Another one is the race about rally style in Germany and McQueen is sad about the fight with Mater, also there is a deleted scene like a mater’s tall tale in the Piston Cup race, it is funny too. Also I saw a scene with a different way to meet finn. Well, there is a lot of special features to see, if you’re a Cars fan you should buy the bonus bluray :wink: (of course all deleted scenes are drawn)

Same here. Cars 2 felt like a theatrical release of an episode of Mater’s Tall Tales since he was in about 85% of the film.

I just don’t understand why Lasseter wanted Mater in the lead role. I understand that Lasseter kept asking himself “What would Mater do in this situation?” which was an inspiration to the sequel, but still. He feels more like a supporting character then anything else.

Mater is almost certainly JL’s favourite character. Hasn’t he said in interviews that Mater partially comes from his own experiences? I can’t imagine he is/was as much as dork as Mater is though 8D . Well, he’s an animator, you never know i guess.

Another theory of why Cars 2 was made was because they wanted to expand the world of Cars.
