Central Cars 2 Discussion

to be honest, who cares what the movie critics think…as pixar fans, we should enjoy it, no matter what. Shouldn’t we trust John Lasseter? there is ACTION in this movie, and less tears, because ITS A SPY MOVIE…not a parody of a spy film, but IS. to be honest, i don’t really mind not crying while watching a pixar film. they’ll be so many tears to come in the future; like brave. and the first cars wasn’t really emotional where it brought tears, you know? anyways, point being, lets not get over our heads about what the negative movie critics think. u got to remember that these critics are looking at it through a different point of view.

Well, both top critics reviews thus far have been positive.

Hey, thanks for posting that link! My dad actually works there! Just another reason I love Cars… :stuck_out_tongue:

Endrizzi: I couldn’t agree more. It’s nice that the critics are liking it but I honestly could care less.

Just went back up again

The good thing is that top critics are 3 for 3 with good reviews. Most of the reviews seem to be that it lacks the emotional depth of Pixar movies. Who said all Pixar movies have to be emotional? Maybe Pixar went in and said, “Hey, let’s make a not-as-serious movie. I mean after the emotional roller coasters that were WALL-E, Up, and TS3, let’s make a nice funny light-hearted movie. Then, let’s all go get some ice cream. Okay? Okay, good, okay.”

Well, now it’s rotten :frowning:

Let’s wait. I never thought I’d see the day a Pixar movie would be rotten.

I’m sure the score will go up tremendously when it starts getting more reviews. But I can’t help but feel like some of the critics are being picky because this is a Pixar film. There’s only 17 reviews so far and plenty of time to improve.

That’s absolutely true. They expect them to be perfect.

That’s because Pixar has left such a standard with them for quality storytelling and having an unbroken string of hits. It doesn’t really surprise me that the minute they see that they’re making a spy film with cars that even remotely suggests being some kind of parody (not saying it is, cause John said it wasn’t) that they raise some eyebrows.

That’s good news for me cause that’s exactly what I’m doing too.

Well Cars 2 is geared towards families.

The tomatometer rating has gone down to 59% with 10 fresh reviews and 7 rotten. Let’s hope as the film’s release nears that the positive reviews will greatly outnumber the negative.

I cannot believe it’s this low. Why? Why can the reviewers look at a movie objectively without looking at the prior successes or failures? I will see this movie 1 week from today, and I will give you all my idea of the movie.

CRITICS are giving Cars 2 bad reviews for 3 REASONS:

  • The First Film
  • Mater
  • And the most important: because the film doesn’t make them cry, that’s stupid, imo, not all pixar films might end with the same treatment,

that SUCKS and it’s so UNFAIR

In PIXAR we TRUST

Thanks for posting my review. I really had no clue how many people would read it until I checked Google Analytics. Anyways, anyone have any film specific questions?

Good thing Armond White hasn’t posted his terrible review on it yet. Anyway, its nice to see Pixar try something new to try to make their films less emotional. Looks like its declining on RT but there is alot of time left as the U.S. hasn’t seen it yet. I have a question. Since the Brave teaser was not shown in Australia, is it still going to be before Cars 2 in the States?

You mean bad thing. Cause then we know we will get another negative review soon :frowning:

Who cares what they think? It’s an opinion. Perhaps as fans we should cut Pixar a little slack rather than doubting them. None of us have seen the film ourselves so maybe we should wait and draw our own conclusions. I’m not letting anything critics have to say influence me, not on this movie or any other one. I’ll see it for myself.

I’m wondering when Arnold White will show his troll-face.

It’s been interesting to read the reactions to the reviews and Tomatometer since my last post. When a favourable review appears, we get happy and share it here. When an unfavourable review appears, some of us still post it here, but we whine and moan about how the reviewer is ‘biased’ or ‘not giving the film a chance’ or ‘judging it based on the first movie’ (which is actually a valid reason, since this is after all a sequel, which merits comparisons to the first).

When the Tomatometer is high, we get all excited and say that it confirms our hopes that the movie will be good. When the Tomatometer is low, we get all upset, like we’ve been ‘wronged’, and say that it will get better, or that we shouldn’t listen to critics because their opinions count for squat.

And this is perfectly normal! I’m guilty of this too! It’s human nature to actively seek for things which confirm our beliefs. I just think this is such an interesting and amusing phenomenon. Don’t you find it strange that when people agree with our opinions, we feel assured and relieved in our convictions? And that when people disagree with our opinions, we feel threatened, and insecure?

Maybe those stinkin’ critics have too high expectations, maybe they should lower them and just give Pixar a chance for trying something new, maybe they were expecting to cry but when they didn’t, they got annoyed and gave it bad reviews?

It’s silly isn’t it? The critics, not us, of course. I mean, I’ve raved about movies which I haven’t shed a tear over, but then again, I’ve raved about movies in which I have shed a tear over.

Let’s take a step back and view this objectively. Pixar has never got a Rotten review for any of its movies. Not even for a brief period of time like an hour, minute, or even a second. Until now. At the time of writing, Cars 2 is sitting at 52% on the Tomatometer, with 21 reviews in. 11 were Fresh, 10 were Rotten.

It’s not just one Arnold White being a troll. It’s 10 critics who are being ‘trolls’.

Of course, there’s 11 people who were positive about this. That’s great, we still got more positive reviews than negative ones, right?

A quick search on Twitter will find that #Cars2 hash tagged-Tweets are mostly positive. Really. Just go and search #Cars2 if you have a Twitter account. I’m looking at it right now, and ALL of them are positive Tweets hyping the movie. Most of them from @DisneyPixar, @UpcomingPixar and sponsors with a vested interest in promoting the movie. I’m sure if I dig deeper, I’ll find one or two cynical ones (maybe a few from me, haha). But really, the majority of Twits are excited for the movie.

Why do we need to get all angry when people say negative things about the movie? They have a right to their opinion just as much as we do. They are in fact professionals who are paid to write reviews such as this, so we should take their opinions into consideration.

If we don’t like what they hear, we can choose not to listen to them. I just find it hypocritical that we like to listen to those which say what we like to hear. So what’s a Pixar fan to do?

Go see the movie, of course! I’m thrilled, it will literally be out tomorrow!

Wow, this has got to be the most rambling and pointless post I’ve ever written.

No tdit, you made good points in there. You are totally correct. That’s why I wish people would stop taking the reviews so close to their heart.

This time I wholly agree with TDIT.

I’m disappointed of the low score, but I won’t blame critics for it. Instead, it angers me that people’s calling them “trolls” just for doing their jobs.

The only thing I disapprove on some of the reviews is when they practically admit they’re being harsh at the film for being from Pixar, which has set a high bar.

What frustrates me the most is that the movie won’t “literally be out tomorrow” for me. I still have to wait two months to know the quality of the films. Till then, I just have those negative reviews in my head. Can you guys understand how frustrating is that? :frowning:
