Looking good I have to say.
I love Sully’s expression. The rendering is amazing!!
Ah, bunk beds…lol.
I hope Sulley doesn’t sleep on the top bunk or he might break it and fall onto Mike in the middle of the night. LOL.
The room is different from that of the teaser, though.
Good point.
I guess maybe this room is Sulley’s and the other one is Mike’s? Maybe Sulley shares a room with someone other than Mike?
Either that or maybe they are sneaking into someone elses room?
Can’t help but put forth my theory on the matter. I observed these pics on the main site before they were brought to attention here…I didn’t think much at the time as I had other obligations to attend to.
On the basis, this my thought…
The room we see Wazowski in…and the one we see him in in the latest pic before…are both his rooms. In the words of Don Knotts, “Let me clarify this” heh heh.
Wazowski’s room…umm…now I take it that, in the trailer, the room we see at the end is Wazowski’s and…whomever his roommate is (I’m NOT saying for sure it’s Sullivan, reason why I’ll bring up in a moment). I’m not 100% sure on this, I saw the trailer way back and haven’t seen it for a bit, so I might go back, see, and then confirm things later.
Anyway…if the room Wazowski was sleeping is one of the rooms in the…well…room we see at the end of the trailer, then that was his FIRST…erm…room.
Ok I’ll stop saying “room” for everything. Essentially I’m thinking, with Sullivan targeting Wazowski and the “raves” that Sullivan (I would guess) starts up…the Dean, or whomever in official standing catches them both in some situation like said-rave or a practical joke or something that would discredit the university or something…and decides the punishment…is to put them together. Of course, the clever way they do this is to put them in the very confined room we see in the pic, forcing them to be roommates. As we can see, there’s a trunk on the top bunk…suggesting that it’s probably Sullivan’s (think Wazowski can put that up there?) and he just got in. So, Sullivan probably did something to get them both in trouble, he blames Wazowski, and now the two are stuck together in a confined room living out this form of educational punishment.
And think about that. It’s sitcomish, you put two people who don’t like each other in the same room…and in some cases, they turn out to be friends in the end through their experiences. The mechanics seem right enough to me that this is a sound enough theory.
Your theory might be correct^^. It certainly seems possible. And tht would explain how they end up sharing a room.
I can’t wait for it! Will Randall be in it? He’s so awesome
^I have no doubt he will! One of the benefits of it being a prequel is that Randall is still around… his rivarly with Sulley had to have started somewhere…
Cool. , My sister loves Monsters Inc, so she’ll be excited to hear that a second one is coming outl
I became very wary and slightly disappointed when I saw the trailer because I immediately assumed that Randall would not be in it. Plus, the whole college deal has been done to death in so many movies before, the trailer for MU didn’t inspire me. But, now that we have 100% confirmation that Steve Buscemi will be back to the cast as Randall, what do you guys think his role will be? Not sure if this has been talked about before. The one thing that really caught me off was that he will be in college with Sulley and Mike–I had read on these boards time and again that Randall was actually younger than those two guys. The math was done based on bits and information claimed to have been seen in the movie and it all seemed legit, but I guess MU will debunk that theory.
EDIT: Just random venting, but is anyone else becomin irked by Pixar’s tendency to push back movies’ release dates? This is the third time they have publicly released a date and pushed it back. And honestly, I don’t feel pushing the release date back has done wonders since I did not personally feel that it made Brave or Cars 2 any better. I was excited and very motivated to hear that MI 2 was going to be released on November 2012, which was exactly two years ago when I began graduate school and figured I would watch this movie as my reward for two years of being in a meat grinder. Guess not.
Personally, I had two thoughts on when I heard about the prequel, and subsequently heard about it being MU.
One: A proper prequel with subtle links, given the time period of 10 years, to the original.
Two: A prequel made in the way that it’s simply “Monsters Inc.” IN college. By that, it is simply putting the characters, disregarding all or a sum of the material from the original and have them “there” in college for the sake of having them in a stereotypical setting with stereotypical issues. (anybody see a Revenge of the Nerds reference going on?)
It has been lightly touched on by yours truly and others I think, but since you are new RD, I’ll give you my thoughts.
Randall is a very skilled and efficient Scarer. So much so that he managed to still keep high numbers (though edited by somebody else) while still working late nights on the Scream Extractor. Now, take the extractor away, and Randall, for that reason and more, was Top Scarer material. He’s a hard worker, efficient, and despises cheating.
Now, Randall’s been said to be, many times, younger than Sullivan (and even Wazowski). So putting him in the college setting WITH them is debatable. If they decide to go with this, then Randall’s probably an up-and-coming scarer prodigy, having skipped grades and got an early start in college. This may make him some-what a recluse, and a target for bullies and pranks (i.e., Sullivan) because he’s simply smarter and is “making them look bad”. Of course this later develops him into being distant and less-adapt at social situations, which makes sense.
Randall’s popularly 25 at the time of the events involving the testing phase of the Scream Extractor. They say this MU is 10 years prior, making Randall 15. Generally a person graduates the normal school course (I would imagine Monsters have the same as we do) at 18. Which means that Randall has likely excelled as a student, which is correct as he is very intelligent and a hard worker.
As for putting them (and not to mention Celia, Fungus, and others) all in one place, it’s still up-in-air to me. I mean one way it makes sense, as I’ve explained. Others? Not so much.
I can’t remember exactly, but if I recall MU was moved because of the…release of the final Twilight film was it? Profit-wise it was a good move. Plus, this gives them more time to fine-tune things, which is something they probably need to do.
My condolences for your missed opportunity.
Ah… please forgive me for saying this, but this Randall discussion is confusing me! It’s not that I don’t like him, because I’m entitled as someone OWP (Obsessed With Pixar) to love all Pixar charries (with only the heroes ranking higher in awesome), but this seems weird that we’re making a big deal out of this. I personally can’t wait to see MU no matter what – and please, can we not insult Sulley??
Popularity comes in all types.
I do not see why you think Sullivan was insulted. In the trailer, he was being a jerk, humiliating Wazowski. As stated, they are not friends yet, though even if they were, it was quite an embarrassing thing for him. It makes sense, as he does turn out better in the end.
What I don’t get is how we can deduce that Randall is younger than the others, and much less, that his specific age is 25!
Is there a hint in the film so that we can know that? Maybe something similar to Nick’s cake in Harry Potter that helps to stablish a date.
It’s been over a decade. I recall something along the lines of an official site that did it that may not be around now…The information is probably somewhere.
Well, I think sources like that are hardly canonical, so I don’t care if they contradict stuff like that. I just hope it doesn’t happen with things from the MI film.
Age issue aside…I’m not sure how the stuff from the original source will be taken.
As with my example in relation to Celia…if they start the relationship in college, it’s not for 10 years that Wazowski starts considering her as “the one”. So at best it will be a fleeting thing, but if it’s just a fleeting thing, it’s not much of a purpose story-wise unless it’s just a cameo thing.
Well, but things like that CAN be handled.
I agree they don’t seem to have a 10 years relation in MI, but nobody says they’ll start one in MU.
Maybe Mike will simply admire her from afar, too shy to ask her out, or something like that.
Anyway, I think Celia’s appearance in this film isn’t a confirmed thing yet. Personally, I want her to be there if they handle her well, but there’s no official source stating her return.
