Maybe Mike and/or Sulley did something unpleasant to Randall though? I mean I’m getting the vibe that Sulley wasn’t exactly that nice back in university. I recall Sulley saying something not so nice in one of the trailers…I think he was saying it about Mike…but yeah Sulley might have done something.
Sullivan and Wazowski’s rivalry is suppose to be a focus of the film…and I imagine everyone, Randall included, gets involved in the crossfire.
I agree with Minty that he just looks more confident there. And I mean going from geek-to-confident isn’t a bad thing. And besides this is suppose to be like…10 years wasn’t it? You think if they go the full 4 years, that’s still 6 left over…
In the end, I think they’re just neutral. Something happens, they break away, but in the end things go neutral. After all, unless it was something really bad, Randall’s dislike of the duo comes way later…when they’re all Scarers.
Yes, I agree Mike or Sulley will begin the war, but that Randall will be the one to cross to the dark in retaliation.
And I still don’t think this is only 10 years before. Maybe it is, but to me, it seems like more.
I know it would be more realistic if their feud begins later in life, but film isn’t real life and I seriously doubt they’ll miss the opportunity to show the origins here.
That’s the time I’ve seen stated before, about when this takes place shrugs
shrugs Pixar can do it heh heh. The thing is, I doubt that Wazowski, Sullivan, or Randall may even do anything intentionally. Ok the feud between Wazowski and Sullivan may escalate, but I think that they all might be manipulated.
I mean Randall and Wazowski seem to be FRIENDS…something breaks that up…and I think it has something to do with Randall having what it takes to be a scarer, while Wazowski doesn’t. But it may also have to deal with the ROR fraternity. They dabble their hands in BOTH Randall and Sullivan AND Wazowski comes out as an obstacle.
So whatever happens, I believe they are involved. Considering Randall and Wazowski were friends, and Wazowski was the enemy…well turning two friends against each other can be easy.
I mean it’s college, mistakes and changes happen, doesn’t necessarily mean it all falls on one person.
Like breaking into power plant-like facilities heh heh.
Well…Randall appears to younger than both Sullivan and Wazowski…but yeah 10 years is what I heard. Think the director actually says it (or more like “about 10 years”, but don’t think that means “give or take five”) somewhere…or something. But shrugs I don’t really know how Pixar thinks of time…
Well I don’t have the book. I just recall seeing people talk about some book called the ultimate guide or something along those lines which has details like the fact that Randall earned minimum wage and that it also stated that they are all 25.
I don’t have first had experience with it since I don’t own it, but I’ve heard about it. Of course since it’s just a book and not stuff said in the movie, I feel like they might change some of the stuff like changing their ages slightly. I don’t know.
Anyway, I wanted to mention this here too, like I already have on some other places:
I was talking to someone who mentioned this.
Since the description for Randall in MU talks about him having a problem with getting his disappearing habit under control…
You know…Randall was perhaps “invisible” to a lot of the people around him in university. As in, maybe he never got recognition or noticed for anything he did.
Then that continues in MI…where he’s pretty much “invisible” to the other employees because they always praise Sulley and pretty much ignore Randall.
It’s like he’s invisible to everyone…as in no one pays attention to him.
I feel like this movie may cause me to like Mike a lot even if the film disappoints. And I’m far from a Mike fan in the original film.
Feels weird man.
(Granted with Mater in Cars 2, I was surprised he didn’t annoy me as mush as I thought he would, even if he did still annoy me at points and that Lightening was right to be mad etc. etc- sorry off topic).
Overall I think Randall will probably have something to do with whatever is going down. Something is going to happen to sour things. I severely doubt they’re going to leave Randall, Mike and Sulley all happy with each other by the end after all given the original film.
Still they could inject some further depth for him at the same time.
In other news I’m still hoping Randall is a bit younger than them. It still feels weird to me that they’d all be the same age.
(/stubborn head-canon problems. But eh I’ll deal I guess if he’s confirmed as the same age, it just weirds me out is all because I’ve thought of him as younger for so long I guess.)
Is it really that weird if they’re all the same age?
I mean when I did my first placement/job after college at a hotel…there were 2 other students from my same college program that were working there. That happened despite the fact that I live in Toronto and there are a lot of places for tourist industry students to end up. LOL. (I know longer want to work in the tourist industry because I did not like it - I’m still trying to discover something better).
Anyway, it looks like Celia and Fungus probably aren’t going to be in the film…or at least not at the same college. It might be a good thing though, because yes if they were also there…then it might seem weird that they’re all the same age since that would be 5 characters all the same age, all from the same school, all ending up together at MI. lol. Of course MI does employ a LOT of monsters.
Personally, I think something WILL happen to each of them. Sullivan is…hands down…a jerk. But grows into a capable man (er, behemoth) with friendly disposition and cares about his job.
Wazowski’s obession with being a scarer…falls flat. He won’t be one. But in the end, his friendship with Sullivan allows him to trudge on.
Randall…well scare major. He makes it. But something happens that break up what friendship him and Wazowski may have had. I’m betting it’s ROR. I mean they have it in for Wazowski, Sullivan joins them to compliment THAT…and I think Randall just got in the middle (maybe a choice between the ROR fraternity (who he THOUGHT were his friends) and Mike (who, for the most part, generally was).
And considering Randall became a scarer and Wazowski didn’t, there’s also that tension.
I don’t think main finger pointing would work here. It’s all misunderstanding, choices with drastic effects, and change. I mean that’s what college is.
In the end, I think they’ll all be…well a little like what we saw in the beginning of MI. Randall’s not exactly friends with them, but civil at least. Isn’t till they took the Top Scarer position and Randall got pulled into the Extractor issue that things between them got difficult.
Making them all the same age is kind of…sloppyish. I think…Sullivan’s the oldest, followed by Wazowski, followed by Randall. My guesses are 18, 17, 15.
I didn’t see Celia or Fungus in the initial drawings/renders (did see george though)…BUT that could mean their freshman who just didn’t join a fraternity/sorority. Or they haven’t in the beginning, who knows.
It’s that time of the year when the Japanese trailer comes out and it’s much better than the normal one, except with horrible narration and maybe too prone to spoilers.
