Contacting the Pixar-ians.

I was just curious if anyone

has tried to contact anyone who works at Pixar, and whether or not they’ll respond.

'Cause I found Lou

Romano’s email but it’s through Pixar, and I’m not sure if he’ll respond to an email. Actually, I’m almost

certain he wouldn’t.

I just wish I could contact someone in Pixar just to ask if I’m heading on the

right track- more specifically, if someone living all the way in New York has a chance of working there. I mean,

I never saw anything about where a lot of these people come from- a lot have graduated from CalArts but I looked

into it and there’s no way I’ll be able to afford it.

So … I’m sure if anyone contacted a Pixar

person they’d show it off on the boards (I know I would!) but I’m wondering if it’s actually worth a try.

I’ve mailed actors and actresses before and it’s unlikely they respond or else it’ll take them several

months in order to do so.

Well,

contacting them is incredibly hard. THey are really secretive and tend to avoid engaging with other people who

might slip one of their secrets. Unless you have a connection with easy access, then it is really hard.

Only maybe a month ago I

e-mailed some Public Relations guys begging for a sneak peek of any of their upcoming films…

They never

responded.

Hmm,

well, unfortunately with Pixar, they really are secretive, which is probably why Gasduude hasn’t heard from

them, and which is why it’s pretty unlikely that if you write to them they’ll reply. I guess the only way to

really find out anything at all is to actually go to the studios themselves, and even then, there’s no gaurantee

they’ll say anything.

I

wouldn’t be asking for a sneak peek of their films or anything- I just wanted a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ as to if I can

have a chance despite my being so far away from the company. That’s all.

But you’re right- they probably

would never respond. So it’s probably pointless. I guess all I can do is try to make it there.

The most I can give you is information

directly from the source, which is Pixar Animation Studios’ official website:

Contact (General Inquiries included):

pixar.com/companyinfo/about_ … actus.html

Job FAQ’s:

pixar.com/companyinfo/faq/jobs_faq.htm

Internship FAQ’s:

pixar.com/companyinfo/jobs/u … rnfaq.html

I would probably

contact them via the “General Inquiries” phone line. No gaurentee they’ll respond immediately, but

it’s worth a shot.

Looking at the “Job FAQ’s” page, you’ll notice that they give a listing

of certain websites that will enable you to move forward in your career concerning animation or the like.

I hope that this was of some service to you, although you’ve probably looked at all this information

already. Heh.

Mitch : what’s general inquiries ?

Yeah, I’ve

looked up that stuff. I just made a resume through the Pixar site that isn’t much since I didn’t go to college

yet, but I figured I might as well.

I’d call them but I think it’s pretty stupid just to ask if I’ve

got a chance when I haven’t even gone through college yet. I just wish they had a fan mail section or

something.

I did print out the requirements for a job as an animator a while back, and some other stuff.

They do say it doesn’t matter on the college- it’s the experience and the love for the job or something like

that … I forget. But I’m just sure that someone from CalArts will have a much better chance getting in than

someone in NY.

I’m looking into taking out a student loan in order to go to CalArts. ^^ It’s expensive,

but cheaper than SVA, what I originally longed to attend.

gottalovepixar - General inquiries = general/basic questions that anyone might have

about the company.

FONY - Yeah, I figured that you would have checked out

all of the information on their official website.

Well, I can keep looking around for you to see if there

is any other way of contacting them for some more strait-forward information, but other than that…I’m not sure

what else to do. Calling them is the best option, but you stated that you’d rather not do

that…sooo…

I hope you get into CalArts, in any case! Just save up and you’ll make it.

Thanks ^^ I’d call them in a heartbeat it’s just my question sounds so darn stupid, not to mention it’d cost

a bit (not a lot, but a lot for a silly question).

I’m really tempted to email Lou Romano.

Well I’m sure I might get there- I can take out a student loan but all that’ll decide whether or not

I’m in is the portfolio submission and if the list is full (which wouldn’t be much of a problem 'cause I’ll

be sure to submit early) but I’m taking a year of college here and I’m off to Disney College, and then I’ll

try for that. I’m thinking of not going to FIT, period.

At least by going to Disney college it’ll up my

chances of getting to Pixar- hopefully.

FONY - You’re welcome.

Haha – yeah, e-mail Lou Romano and tell him that Linguini is your biggest fan.

Oh yes,

I forgot about that Disney college program/institute. Interesting. That may very well boost your chances of

earning a position at Pixar if they identify you as a student of the Disney college.

Here’s hoping! I wonder what that college is like, anyway? Sounds like fun, actually…

Well, if

you are intrested, then I would suggest finding someone with the closest connection they got to Pixar and work

your way from there.
Just wondering, which actors and

actresses have you emailed before?

I seriously have spent about 1/2 an hour or so just trying to find a

general inquiries email on Pixar’s website. Maybe I’m blind or something 'cause I couldn’t find

it.

The thing is, contacting Pixar is

very hard but contacting Pixar’s animators and getting a few hints here and there, is not that hard at all, if

you do it right. The trick is to contact employees of Pixar and get them to give you the information you want,

but do it in a way where they won’t get fired or found out. The right people will give you information, as long

as it is off the record.

I read a story of a girl who visited the annual Pixar open day charity event, and

she striked up a conversation with a couple of animators (well, they approached her actually) and she found out a

bit of information about what Pixar’s upcoming projects are. For one, Pixar are in talks to do a movie with Tim

Burton. And two, they basically gave away the general story of Toy Story 3.

The only way they gave her

this information was because it was just in general conversation, the Pixar employees gave hints instead of

outright saying anything, and nothing was said on the record (not through email), so they knew their jobs were

safe.

So the moral of the story is, is to go to Pixar in person and strike up a conversation with some

super-nice animators. And they can also give you hints of how to approach getting into Pixar as an

animator.

Meh. Don’t take it personally.

They’re probably just too busy, and

they might get emails like that all the time. But it’s easy to dismiss an email, but not as easy to dismiss a

phone call.

I bet Pixar employees read this board, though…

Hello

Pixar employees!

rc1985 – Yep! I’m sure they do! Which makes me wonder: are they allowed to get accounts at sites like

these…I say not, but it would be cool!

HELLO PIXAR EMPLOYEES!

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. I did say that they had an e-mail address for "General

Inquiries", didn’t I? Well, I made a mistake in that. They don’t have an e-mail for that particular topic,

but there is a phone line.

My sincere apologies.

And, by the way, I

know for a fact that Pixar employees do visit this website every now and then. Heck,

there is a guy who registered on here who is from the company. I forgot his screen name though, and he hasn’t

posted on these boards in months. Heh. But they do come here!

Mitch – Really?! Cool! Well, maybe someday he’ll come

back on and we can PM him…

Well,

once I was searching on the movie Cars, and I discovered this Portuguese guy who

works at Pixar… His name is Afonso Salcedo and this is his website:

http://www.afonsosalcedo.com/doors.html

I contacted him by e-mail and he’s really

cool… If there’s anyone who would like to work at Pixar, contact him. But I guess he’s not gonna give you any

details about the upcoming movies! :stuck_out_tongue:

Maggie - Wow – great find! He worked in the lighting department on

Ratatouille. Awesome!

Hey,

great link, Maggie!

rachelcakes1985- I’ve only contacted ones that are pretty unknown … well, maybe

the only one people would know is Stephen Schwartz- he composed music for Godspell, Pocohantas, Wicked, and

several others I forget … and I contacted Gilmer McCormick who was an actress in Godspell, and got a response.

I’ve contacted two others but they haven’t mailed me back yet. =P But I know for a fact Jerry Sroka got my

mail- it’s just takin’ him forever to respond just like with my friend’s

mail.

Maggie_PixarFan- Thanks for the link! I’m gonna go try emailing him

now. You can’t blame them for not leaking out any info about their films- I sure as heck wouldn’t! For all they

know, you could be an undercover agent for Dreamworks! xD
