Curses! I don’t get the Disney channel…
I might see it later today, but I think we’re in different time zones so it’s probably not on right now at my house.
Rats! I’m sorry Evil im on the east-coast so maybe it will be on later K9Girl…
Mood: Excited.
Reason: Birthdaaay!
Current Alignment: Lawful Good
Reason: I’m a little sad that I don’t have the Disney Channel now, but it doesn’t matter because I HAVE TICKETS TO SEE SARAH VOWELL AT THE STATE CAPITOL WOOOOOOOO~
Mood: Frustrated… not to the point of tears, but pretty close.
I’m pretty sure all you musicians out there can understand where I’m coming from - I have had the hardest time this week with one song… and of course it would be the song that I really wanted to play.
I got the sheet music online, and the guy who arranged this piece has a video on Youtube (link) but the thing is… I have noticed that when he arranged it on paper, the counting is nothing like the way he’s playing it.
Needless to say, I have only three more days until my lesson, and I can’t even get past the first page of the freakin’ song. It’s really starting to tick me off. So… either my teacher helps me with the counting, I wing it myself by ear, or I just scrap the whole thing - which I really don’t want to do.
Daughter of Eve, I totally underestand what you mean. I play piano and I face that kind of frustration all the time. The main reason I wanted to learn it was to impress friends, admittedly , but boy… they’re the kind of pianists that can hear something and just play it by ear on the spot. THAT’s when I get frustrated - I can never find sheet music for the songs I want, and I completely fail at doing it by ear.
Leirin: I know. There’s something about pianists playing by ear that really bugs me, for whatever reason. It always seems like they’re doing it on purpose to make you look lame or something.
Speaking of which, at one point, our church’s youth group had started a “band” and I was the pianist… until this other kid decided to be the secondary pianist -which I didn’t mind… until I noticed that he was totally copying me. Like, it was legit - he was playing exactly the same things that I was… when I was trying to improvise! That’s basically why I had “quit” the band because I felt that I wasn’t needed anymore… this kid basically totally took over.
But at the same time, it’s also a very good skill to have. That is one of the things that I really want to learn - that, and improvisation. My teacher can’t teach me how to improvise on the piano; I have to learn it myself. Now, that’s definitely a tricky skill to learn!!
Daughter of Eve: Yay! Another pianist! runs to give a big hug and a smooch on the cheek
Mood: A little frustrated.
Reason: Got stuck on a problem for Calculus class, so I needed to give it a break.
Sebastian Wolff does have strange counting for his pieces, but so far I found them all to be quite accurate. He’s very talented so I’m sure he has his reasons.
Although I am convinced that he does make some of his pieces unnecessarily difficult. I have rearranged his Romantic Flight arrangement with a keychange and some simplifications (because I simply don’t have his insane reach). It sounds exactly the same but it’s at least twice as easy.
Mood: Annoyed
Reason: Despite having had TEN FREAKIN’ HOURS to render in Sony Vegas, my Ask a Fox episode (YouTube) still needs another 5 -_- My computer sucks, seriously, plus it’s stupidly loud.
YES- that’s what I feel too! I can’t count the number of times I see a piano performance of a song I like, but the user writes in his description that he doesn’t want to transcribe sheets (I don’t think he can’t if he’s that good) and doesn’t apologize for it. Some of them are even ruder, they don’t reply to the constant comments asking for a song sheet (Although maybe they privately reply by PM? Or don’t read the comments altogether?).
But seriously, Sebastian Wolff is too frackin’ good. I have only mastered his ‘Easy Version’ of ‘Where’s Hiccup?’ so far. The rest… just look too scary. Those key signatures…
I really like this guy’s rendition of ‘Take To The Sky’, but he only seems to answer a few comments and largely ignores requests for song sheets. I’m half-considering joining the rest in the Comments asking for a sheet, then maybe PM-ing him and waiting for a reply… just afraid I’d come off as annoying.
EDIT I really like how we have a lot of pianists here…
Current Mood: Tired and fed up
I have three assignments due next week, and the scariest one- a Law essay, I haven’t even begun research for it yet! And I have another one due tomorrow that I’m midway through and I’m pretty confident I can finish within a few hours, but it’s so freakin’ tedious (It’s a broadcast storyboard). It’s a little past midnight now… I’m bored out of my mind.
I want to go draw or edit something, but I’ll have a guilty conscience and I’ll lose track of time. So better to take micro-breaks watching telly and popping by this forum.
Yay for pianists! high-fives fellow pianists
Mood:
I was mad a few minutes ago since I slept in, which I hate. But now I’m felling better, and now I’m getting really hungry for breakfast.
plays by ear a lot .____.
Sorry, I guess I’ll stop doing that?
Czarine: No, she’s just frustrated because it seems like some kids can pick up stuff by ear so fast when it takes her forever just to learn by sheet music.
I too play piano, and do decent at playing stuff by ear, but I almost always would rather have sheet music so I’m not second-guessing myself all the time. Oftentimes I’ll just sit down at the piano with my iPod and headphones in, and plunk out notes as the song plays until I can figure out the key. Then I’ll find the basic chords. It always helps me once I have the basic chords down, cuz then you can learn the other notes based on which notes actually appear in that chord.
I’m probably confusing people. I’ll stop. xD
little chef
It’s not that I have a problem with people who can do that - it’s only when it appears as though they are trying to look better than everyone else that it starts to bug me. That’s all. It was nothing against you, Czarine.
TDIT: I have learned the piano part to Where’s Hiccup? as well, and it was surprisingly easy for something Sebastian Wolff arranged. I’m just having trouble with the counting on this particular piece that I’m learning (or rather, trying to learn) this week.
I think that little chef does a fine job with learning by ear. I can’t do stuff like that very well. The only thing I can pick up by ear is video game tunes.
Mood: Various, pleased but also a tad dissapointed.
Reason: I got some more Disney blu rays for my collection today, but I also planned to go and see The Legend of the Guardians as it looks like one of the better non Pixar CGI films to come out for a long time, but it’s not out here until October 22nd x.x
Oh cool, what blu rays did you get?
Dumbo and Snow White ^^
Leon: Sweet, I love both of those movies!
