Seriously, what the heck?!
Average word of the day: Up
That’s hilarious, what are the odds?
Current Mood: Pretty darn fantastic.
Reason: Well, I had a pretty spectacular day today. It started off with me doing the Wall•E fan commentary with Captain Pan and rachelcakes1985. Everything went well, and I can’t wait to get the audio file back.
Moving on,…
Spent the majority of my mid-day doing average things, checking the boards, taking a shower, eating, the usual. Had a nice conversation with Captain Pan, Doc Kenobi, and Lightning and Doc on Skype, then headed out for the theater. Was a bit late, so I had to find something to do for an hour. Not sure what happened to the time, something bizzare happened. I thought I was trying to make the 3:40 showing, but I get back in my car, and it’s 5 p.m. O.o there was a 6:20 and 8:45 left, and I had intended on watching it once, then taking a break and drawing, then going again after a while. Those were the last two showings though,…
I sat in my car waiting for 6:20 to roll around, so I got out my sketchbook and started drawing a concept sketch of Geri. Took roughly 30 minutes, and came out rather nicely. I left my car, marched up to the box office, and had a nice 39th viewing. Not one to listen to instinct, I sat outside the box office and pondered afterwards,… Should I go again? It’d make 40,… But twice a day has been tough before. thewisecookiesheet pointed out I’d regret it afterwards if I didn’t, and I had only seen it on Monday this week, so I finally convinced myself to go back.
I managed to coerce a few people to watch the film before I got my ticket, and it was really awesome seeing people walk up, “Two for Up”, “Five for Up”, etc. Walking into the theater, it had completely escaped me that it was a Friday night. The seats were PACKED, there must have been at least 80 people in the theater. I sat in my seat, same one as the last viewing, and must have said a million times to myself, what am I doing? I’m insane! The trailers run their course, and I ignore the usual ones, Shorts, G-Force, I’d seen them a million times, and always dreaded them. Then Partly Cloudy. I still get a few kicks out of it, especially when there’s a responsive audience. Plus, I associate it with the movie.
Then it plays. I get the exact same rich feeling I got from watching it my 2nd or 3rd time watching it, it was like I saw the movie for the first time all over again. I literally left the theater speechless. The second time was BETTER.
Someone tell me this: How on EARTH does Pixar do it? I’ve seen Up 40 times now, and I am STILL in awe of how incredible it is. It blows my mind, absolutely blows my mind right out of my flipping head. How do they manage to pull an absolute masterpiece out of every idea they start working seriously on. There is no doubt in my mind that Pixar has to be the single greatest collaboration of human minds on this planet, and they consistently show it.
Not only that, but I know exactly what’s going to happen when I watch the movie, every scene, line, almost every gesture, except for one thing. I have no idea how I’m gonna feel leaving the theater, if I’m going to feel like it wasn’t good anymore, or if it still leaves such an amazing impression on me. Yet, Up STILL manages to totally rock my world.
I think tonight proved it. Up is indestructible. Nothing, and I mean nothing will make me stop loving this film. Pixar absolutely BLOWS my MIND. I was having fits of utter bewilderment on the drive home.
Since then, I’ve opened my sketch book, and drew Leo, rather badly, Andre, and Wally B. The last 2 came out nicely, I’m planning on uploading scans either tonight or tomorrow. After tonight though, seriously,…
Pixar wins. At life. Forever.
