I gotta say I agree considering I otherwise like the movie. I don’t mind celebrity voice talent in animated movies, even if it’s a celebrity I don’t care for—but it’s outright unfitting for her character. Makes her sound really adult. ![]()
Yeah, I’m not the biggest fan of Miley Cyrus, and I think that she got assigned that role soley because she has name power. (Lots of actors and actresses do voice acting these days, but often the filmmakers have someone in mind during character development or even do actual casting. Some cases, like this one, I just feel had little to do with her fitting the character, but more because she’s/was a teen idol).
I agree, it was just to promote one of their Disney channel girls. ![]()
I suppose. I wasn’t all that bothered by her back when the movie came out. I’m not really big on some of the stuff she does now, but maybe she was the best pick at the time considering Bolt had to be re-made in 1 year and a half. And her name was popular at the time, so they probably figured they might as well post her’s on the advertisements along with John Travolta’s.
I feel like she just doesn’t convince me. Every time she speaks, I hear Hannah Montana.
I still think the movie is adorable, and it doesn’t ruin it for me or anything. I just think a younger(less annoying) actress might have been better.
Yeah, I can see that. I guess it would have bothered me more now than back then. But I can admit her voice kind of took me out of it at times.
Imagine a Bolt sequel ![]()
Yeah, I didn’t really like Miley Cyrus’s voice acting. It wasn’t bad per se, but she sounded too old for the character. It’s especially annoying since Chloe Moretz originally did the voice, and probably sounded closer in age.
Wait, so they just re-recorded the voices? Or it was because of the change in director?
They rerecorded Penny’s voice with Miley Cyrus. Everyone else stayed the same. You can still hear Chloe Moretz in the movie, during the very first scene when she’s younger. But she did record all the lines. I found an interview with Chloe Moretz where she was quite diplomatic about them suddenly dropping her. It sounds like Disney just wanted a better known actress (to kids at least). Ironically it looks like Moretz will probably end up with a better career than Miley Cyrus.
As far as I can tell it has nothing to do with the change in director (although it’s possible Disney panicked about the film’s production after pulling him off and wanted the security of a famous name).
Haha, didn’t we have a thread where we made up really bad Disney sequels for a while? ![]()
Ihink that thread is still up.
Anyone have thoughts on the decisions to make Return to Never Land and The Jungle Book 2 theatrical releases? I didn’t mind the three Pooh sequels/spin-offs, but those two were kind of iffy to me.
Yeah, those were very random. Just as random as Planes.
Eh, I think I will make that particular judgement once I’ve seen the film. I have a lot more faith in that one. Random idea and marketing? Sure, okay, why not?. Random movie? Hopefully not, I imagine it being decent fun at the very least.
Well, you can still be a a “random” film and be “Good”.
I don’t need to see Planes to say that it’s “Random”. I do need to see Planes to say if it is “Good” or “Bad”
Oh, that makes sense. Do you mean as in “Why do those get to go to theaters but the others go straight-to-video?” I guess it is kind of random in that way. Well, in the case of all of these ones, I can’t say I even know for sure myself. It might be that the moral is somewhat deeper than other sequels, or maybe a certain story aspect or even a song “allows” it to be theatrical. Good point, E-J-E, I hadn’t thought about it that way before.
People always talk about how sweet and good RtN is. But I don’t believe it. If it comes on TV I might have to see for myself. It just looks like another where the next generation has the same adventure to me. ![]()
I saw Lady and the Tramp II Friday. That one was surprisingly okay. I daresay it would be good with less songs and a better voice for Scamp(I love musicals, but these songs were eh).
Oh yeah, when I was little I actually cried during Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure when Scamp was taken to the pound.
Of course I wouldn’t be sad now, but that one was not one of the worst ones, probably one of the “better” ones.
I saw both Return to Never Land and The Jungle Book 2 in theaters. And I also used to have the home releases. Back then, I thought they were okay. Today, I guess I would say they’re only okay; they could be worse. They’re basically theatrical, not-so-direct-to-video sequels. I think the only thing that kept those from DVD releases were a certain song or a particular situation in the story that made it more mature. I don’t know, that’s just my guess.
And I was excited to see them before they came out when I was younger. I think it’s because, in a kid’s mind, that was the closest thing to watching re-releases of the original Peter Pan and The Jungle Book which kids like me already adored. People just want to see the same characters on-screen again, they’re not thinking about the story or how good it will be. That usually doesn’t happen until a person has seen enough so-so sequels to know better. That’s probably why sequels often do well, whether they are good or not. I wouldn’t call either of them horrible though, just not THAT good or as good as Pooh sequels, which were good enough to me. They range about in the middle of the Disney sequels rankings for me (from what I remember), which is about average or almost average.
I don’t remember particularly liking that film, but I did like how they expanded on the Victorian setting.
That makes sense. Especially when you’re younger, you’re just super excited to see your favorite characters on the big screen.
