I wanted to start a discussion on these two characters since I felt that they both played big roles in the stories of the two Cars films. So, which character of these two did you like better?

Oh, Doc Hudson all the way. Doc is arguably my top favorite character of all time. To me, he’s what really made the first movie. Of course, I could say that about Finn McMissile concerning the second film as well. I think Finn’s awesome. When I heard Michael Caine (who’s one of my favorite actors) was doing Finn, I was like “oh yeah, I have got to see this movie”. And Finn’s got all those cool gadgets and everything. When I saw the opening of Cars 2 I was just sitting there in awe. So yeah, Doc first, with Finn coming up close behind.

And by the way, great idea for a thread, Ballboi.

this is exactly what I was thinking the other day when I was watching the first cars  finn and doc are practically the same, I mean finn could be a mentor with mater like doc is with mcqueen and they are olders with enough experience, their way of think and speak. Finn remind me so much things about doc. I’m not a big fan of doc or finn but I missed him in cars 2

Thanks Snipe! The idea first came to me when I was watching Cars yesterday.

This reminds me of the Sally/Holley thread! Oh my, I don’t know if I could pick. I would need to watch the films back to back. I really adore them both!

Finn McMissile is probably one of my favorite Pixar characters ever.

I’m very big on spy Aston Martins, so that’s a no-brainer for me 8D Also, Michael Caine is among my favorite actors ever. I recognized his voice at once when the first teaser was released, and I was the first one to post about it!

Paul Newman is also one of my favorite actors, but I think Doc was underused in the film.

Whether intended or not, there are definitely similarities between Doc and Finn. I really missed Doc in the second movie but I like how Finn came in and there was like the same feeling of an older, more experienced, wiser being. In the end, I love them both and could never pick.

Ballboi: Poll, poll, poll!

A poll for this thread is coming up shortly.

Besides both being the mentor figure in their films, I don’t think they’re that similar.

Yay! First voter!

Unfortunately I can’t form a solid opinion on this subject, since I didn’t see Cars 2, but I know even if I did that Doc would still be my favorite out of the two. Doc is one of the Pixar characters that I’ve always loved, despite Cars being one of my least favorite Pixars, it’s very dear to me and Doc is definitely one of my most favorite Pixar characters. I loved everything about him, though he can be seen as a sort of jerk in places, he’s definitely not as much of a jerk as Lightning, to be completely honest.

Something about how he harbors anger and distrust of “racecar types” due to the unfortunate past he had, and how that incident still affects him though no one even knows about it, stuck with me. Yet despite that, he ends up coming through for Lightning in the end even though the kid basically flipped him off, if you will (hope that’s not inappropriate to say here, whoops), on more than one occasion, and showed absolutely no respect to him.

Doc has a big enough heart in him to forgive, learns to forget the past, and I just love that about him. Part of the reason why I couldn’t bring myself to watch Cars 2 was mainly because I knew Doc wasn’t going to be in it, and I was afraid that Newman’s death and thus the loss of Doc as a main character wasn’t going to be properly addressed and brought to a close in the sequel. That sounds kinda long-winded and confusing but yeah that’s kinda how I feel about that.

little chef

That’s exactly what I feel about McMissile. He’s probably my favorite character from Pixar, but he’s on one of my less favorite films.

Well,I’m not gonna spoil it but I’ll just say your fears are confirmed, thats all I’m gonna say… :frowning:

I’ll probably post my thoughts on what Pixar did with Doc Hudson under a spoiler tag. [spoil]I thought that his little tribute in the film just seemed too short. I think his death would of been a perfect opportunity to add some emotion to the film which it lacked. The way I would of done it I probably explained a few times before so I’m not going to explain it again. To me, Cars 2 just didn’t feel the same without him since he was my favorite character in the first movie.[/spoil]

Yeah, I completely agree with you there.

Yep. It was one of those things that really bugged me about Cars 2.

I really like your post there, little chef, I mostly agree.

I vote for “I like them both”.

I’m probably going to offer my opinions on Finn. Don’t have too much to say about him though. To me, he was the only new character that was developed well. Some of his gadgets and all were cool for the most part. Loved Michael Caine’s performance as he’s one of my favorite actors.

I really like Finn a lot but he really cant hold a candle to Doc Hudson. I cant quite pinpoint why. But that is partly why I felt sucha void watching Cars 2, and I wonder what it would have been like had Doc been in it.

I feel the same way…there was just that special something that Doc had that Finn didn’t,personality maybe?
