Loves your list, bitsandpieces! And personally, I did not enjoy Sinbad or Joseph: King of Dreams at ALL. They were no masterpieces.
1.)Prince of Egypt
2.)How to Train Your Dragon
3.)Kung Fu Panda
4.)The Road to El Dorado
5.)Megamind
And I’ve seen all of them except for the Aardman movies. I’m not that ignorant; these are just the only ones I can sit through without getting the urge to kill the director. If I ranked the rest of them, people would be mad at mew, even on a Pixar forum.
I presume this list excludes any films produced during the Aardman partnership? If not, I’d have to sneak Wallace & Gromit and Flushed Away into my list - I adore those movies!
I liked how adult this was (even though I own this movie I have only watched like twice and that was when I was like six). They had like a conspiracy theory and it was just interesting.
Looking back at it and comparing it to say Kungfu Panda movies (which I enjoy) Antz had an edge that wasn’t too out there. Plus it is one of the few animated movies I heard the word damn in .
To be fair, the only thing in Antz I really liked was the environments. You know I love convincing backgrounds. Didn’t really care about the characters though. Excepts the wasps, they were pretty funny.
I’d like to say that only number one is really Pixar quality. I have to watch it over and over to catch all the detail and humor.
The Curse of the Were-Rabbit: Absolutely hilarious movie. I love the charm and detail of the claymation. One of my all-time favorite films. Nick Park is a genius, and I love the originality of the story. Plenty of great gags too, as usual in his films. I want this on bluray! It’d go great with the rest of the episodes…
Bee Movie: The title itself is clever, but the puns and jokes come so rapidfire you have to watch it a couple more times. But NOT in a row. Dreamworks films tend to be unwatchable within short periods of time of each other. Even the hilarious wit of Jerry Seinfeld and Matthew Broaddrick can’t fix that.
Chicken Run: Same as Curse of the Were-Rabbit, this is a hilarious and detailed movie. I love the
Flushed Away: I thought this movie looked so dumb it would be funny, but the Aardman films seem to take the cake as far as Dreamworks goes. I love this movie to death, especially Roddy. xD
The Prince of Egypt: I loved this movie as a kid. So many memories. It’s great 2D animation, and fun to watch a Biblical story done well.
Over the Hedge: For a Dreamworks film, this was pretty cute. It’s visually interesting, and there’s Steve Carrell. Probably one of the best-looking Dreamworks films. And if you don’t count the Aardman as part of Dreamworks, then one of my favorite Dreamworks as well.
Shrek: The original was admittedly funny and attention-keeping. I really like it. But they got too carried away with the sequels.
Shark Tale:It’s not a Finding Nemo rip-off. As substandard as Dreamworks films are, they aren’t generally rip-offs of Pixar films. It’s interesting and has some pretty funny gags. Plus… Robert DeNiro, you know. Haha.
Megamind: It was a great plot with bad execution. Even Tina Fey couldn’t save this one. It was full of cliches and unoriginal humor. I may have laughed twice through this. Metroman or whatever his name was should have just died. That ruined it officially I think.
Shrek 2: Just not that interesting. As a kid, this was a great movie. And it wasn’t bad for a Dreamworks sequel. But it just wasn’t amazing like Pixar can do with Toy Story 2 or Cars 2.
Spirit: Just… Didn’t do it for me. But I guess I’m not a horse person. Different strokes. This is probably a better movie than Shrek 2 and Megamind, but I didn’t enjoy it as much.
I haven’t seen the rest except for Madagascar, which I forgot and am now too lazy to add it. It was slightly better than Shark Tale I think though. Oh, and Shrek 3, which might as well be called Drek 3.
Haven’t seen all of them yet but heres my list. I’ll probably update once I see the rest of them.
1 Chicken Run
2 Wallace and Gromit
3 Shrek
4 How to Train Your Dragon
5 Antz
6 Shrek 2
7 Kung Fu Panda
8 Over the Hedge
9 Monsters vs Aliens
10 Madagascar 2
11 Madagascar
12 Shrek Forever After
13 Shrek the Third
14 Bee Movie
15 Shark Tale
You should watch the Aardman features. Its been a while since I saw them, but I remember them being very good. Except Flushed Away, which was bad enough that Aardman won’t work with Dreamworks anymore.
