That makes me so sad. But I’m not suprised. It’s hard to find TV stations that play movies more than 30 years old. (Besides TCM, but I’m one of the few people in my generation to watch it).
I’ve never heard of it either. Obviously I’ve seen the other two.
I love old movies, and I watch TCM sometimes, but I just haven’t heard of that one. I also love this channel called MeTV that plays older TV shows, including Columbo!
City Lights was Charlie Chaplin’s last silent film, and in the opinion of many, his best film. It’s about the tramp who falls in love with a blind flower girl.
Since it’s a Chaplin film, not only is it hilarious, but is especially moving. The ending is IMO the best in any film. EVER. That’s not a fact in the world, but in the world of e-j-e it is.
It’s on 7 AFI’s 100 years lists too.
It’s on youtube. So if you’re interested, check it out.
I’ve been wanting to watch that film^^, but I still haven’t seen it.
At the moment my favorite film is Dr Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.
^ That’s a good choice. I don’t believe I’ve seen City Lights but I know I’ve seen clips.
DO IT.
And yes, Dr Strangelove is a fantastically awesome movie.
I definitely will, hopefully soon.
Great choice Milan!!!
I don’t have a specific favorite, but my collection does contain a lot of studios, genres, categories…whatever.
(1) The Incredibles is my favorite superhero movie. In fact, it’s the only superhero movie I love most!
(2) Recently I have become interested in Tron: The Original Classic and this has become my new favorite Sci-Fi film. I actually do watch Sci-Fi, as I own quite a few titles–yet I have no specific reason for being attracted to it. (I wonder if it’s because of all the technological advances that don’t even exist yet!) There is one thing where I do have a specific reason, though: I do not want to see Terminator.
(3) I love Christmas movies, such as Elf, The Polar Express, A Christmas Story, and Home Alone.
(4) If there are at least 2 Studio Ghibli films I really want to check out someday, that would be My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo.
I thought Terminator was pretty good actually, though it surely shows its age.
Christmas movies and specials are a big part of why I love the Christmas season. Christmas Vacation and Elf are my favorite full length Christmas movies.
I like those, and It’s A Wonderful Life, and A Christmas Carol from 1984 with George C. Scott. I’ll be watching more versions of it this year, I hope to find some new favorites.
It’s A Wonderful Life is also another favorite. I have not seen [i]A Christmas Carol /i, but if I see it on TV I’ll watch it, per your recommenation. I love A Chritmas Carol in general. My favorite adaption is the Disney version, with Mickey a Cratchett and Uncle Scrooge as Ebenezer Scrooge.
I also saw the Jim Carrey/Disney version the other night. Talk about creepy. But interesting. Not a favorite though.
The Mickey version is definitely my second favorite, but I’m seeing the Alistair Sim version soon, and I think it might be my new second favorite. I do not like the Jim Carrey version, lol. I saw it once and that was plenty for me.
Whoa! You’ve seen the Classic Disney version of a Christmas Carol?
I have an older version of the Disney Christmas storybook collection and it is right in there! (In storybook version, that is.)
I think that’s the one we’re talking about.
1983 is the year, if that helps any. I wish it was longer though. And I love the Disney cameos in it!
Actually, I prefer the friendly kind–not the destructive kind. I’d say Terminator is about as destructive as Syndrome’s Omnidroid from Incredibles.
And when I say “friendly kind”, I am referring to WALL-E.
Is this a good comparison to you?
