I can’t believe this poll hasn’t turned up yet! I’m a big fan of soundtrack scores, but nothing compared to my brother who’s set on becoming a film composer (he loves A Bug’s Life).

My favorite is a toss-up between Toy Story and Ratatouille. They’re opposed to one another in terms of style, theme, instruments – on just about every level – but I memorized each and every riff and melody from Toy Story… You know what I mean; I can sing the soundtrack. It even strikes a sentimental chord because I grew up with it (what 90s kid didn’t replay their Toy Story home video a zillion times?).

Anyway, I’m curious to know what you all at Pixar Planet rate as your favorite!! WALL-E is included.

The incredibles is my fave, hands down easily.

Well, I only own some songs from Ratatouille, so I’ll have to say Ratatouille. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m sure the others are all great too - I love listening to background music from films for some odd reason.

Monsters & co. and A bug’s life are the best Randy Nemwan’s scores (for Pixar, obviously).
But the best Pixar score is Ratatouille, Giacchino has composed a PERFECT score… he didn’t win the Oscar last year just because it wasn’t a dramatic score.

I voted the Incredibles. Now granted, I have at leat 1-3 favorite songs on each soundtrack, but The Incredibles soundtrack is the first and only soundtrack that I have able to listened through in one sitting, and I got it on my ipod. In addition, it has a perfect balance of relaxing and excitment.

I like every one of them in their own way (though I’ll have to reserve judgement on WALL-E’s at the moment), and it was pretty much a three-way tie between Toy Story, Monsters, Inc. and Ratatouille.

I adore the Toy Story soundtrack, especially the songs by Randy Newman. Whenever I hear Randy Newman’s voice, I immediately think of Pixar and the soundtrack generally is very senitmental to me.

I believe that the soundtrack to Monsters, Inc. was pretty much one of the key features of the film. The soundtrack firmly sets the film in a time that has passed, and creates the atmosphere and feeling of the film and of the Monster World. It’s like in the Monster World, the only type of music they can have is the kind in the soundtrack- anything else would feel out of place. I don’t own any soundtracks for any of the Pixar films, but I do have the music for the opening titles of Monsters, Inc.- the only Pixar music that I have.

Once again, Ratatouille’s soundtrack set the film in a certain place and time and made the movie what it is. Ratatouille’s theme song is brilliant, just so perfect for the film, and it completed the Parisian feel of the movie to the point where you become as engulfed in Paris as Remy does.

I went for Monsters, Inc., mainly because I know the MI soundtrack inside and out and have therefore learned to appreciate it more.

Ratatouille and Cars are both excellent soundtracks for me but I think I like Ratatouille just that little bit more.

I do like 3-4 tracks (like most others) on all soundtracks though.

Great topic! I voted… but I suppose since this is work-related for me, I should keep my vote anonymous. :sunglasses: It’s hard to choose, for each one has its own strong points… but there is one that I felt was something just a little more special…

It was a tough call between The Incredibles and WALL•E. I love the classic retro style music of Incredibles. The main theme is just amazing, but in the end it’s WALL•E’s that has made me become obsessive over it. I can’t help but to hum the songs and right after seeing it I knew I had to buy Peter Gabriel’s song “Down To Earth” at the end. So WALL•E wins in the end.

I haven’t heard the WALL•E soundtrack yet, so that’s out of contention for now… I’m dying to hear it, though.

It would be a very close call between The Incredibles and Ratatouille, so close that I don’t think I could choose. When I first got into the TI soundtrack, I played it everyday for a month straight. Michael Giacchino just has a knack for creating short, intense, anxious pieces, that also have that fun and adventurous quality to them eg. “Kronos Unveiled” and “A Real Gourmet Kitchen,” which is what I love listening to. Don’t get me wrong, I like listening to the other Pixar soundtracks and the music suits each film perfectly, but if you are just talking about the stand alone soundtrack, I think those two have more depth and replay value.

Other than that, I can’t really expand too much on why I like those two soundtracks because it’s just too personal for me, and also I don’t have a very good musical vocabulary yet.

EDIT: Actually, those two tracks wouldn’t be good examples of what I was talking about. Those ones would be better described as anxious, build-up tracks - but I really love that too, so…

Ratatouille, most definetly. Michael Giacchino’s music is pure BRILLIANCE! I still listen to the songs constatnly, my favs being “This is Me”, “Colete shows him Le Ropes” and 'End Creditouilles". I also LOVE the song, “Le Festin”, which wonderfully represents Rey throughout the movie.

I know…I know…I gush too much…I’m such a soundtrack nerd. XD

Though i WILL ADMIT, i love Monsters Inc, and the Cars soundtrack had some fun music to sing to.

I’d have to say Finding Nemo. It lends weight to the film and adds cues which move it beyond the kiddy genre and give real depth. My favourite example is when the story of Nemo’s dad saving him gets around the ocean…the music there could have been kiddy, but Newman gave it weight. Which is why Andrew Stanton chose him even though the Pixar films had a long-running composer.

I don’t really like Randy Newman’s scores or songs all that much. The Ratatouille score was pretty good.

Finding Nemo still the best for me, but WALL-E and Ratatouille were good competitors.

I love Finding Nemo’s. It’s just beautiful and it’s got the right mix of emotional type parts (the main title theme really gets to you) and more action-y type parts (any music dealing with the turtles)

Cars I like a lot, at least with the instrumentals. I only like a few of the songs because I can’t stand country so some of those I must skip over. WALL-E is starting to grow on me as well, maybe because it’s by the same guy as Nemo.

Wall-E and Cars are my favorites. Ratatouille is a close third though.

Wall•E would have to be my favourite soundtrack, but I don’t like how some of the pieces of music in the track listing are mislabeled. I didn’t think of “The Axiom” as the Axiom’s theme at all (save for the second part), I thought of it as more of Wall•E’s theme. I know there’s already a track listed in the OST as WALL•E, but do you really think that would sound very good if it were made all ‘epicy’?

Easily WALL-E, but with Finding Nemo at a close second.
The music for Nemo was beautiful, but Newman really kicked it up another notch with WALL-E with the combination of electronic themes with a gorgeous orchestra. The balance in the synthesis is amazing.

I’d have to agree, Artemis. Those two soundtracks are both great compositions by Newman. I think it’s some of his best work in a while. (I’ve also taken a liking to his work on Road to Perdition. That was a wonderful score, especially the song “Road to Perdition”). If you’re a Newman fan, definitely check out that song and the soundtrack in general!

Sorry to get so off-pixarish soundtracks! But anyway, I’d have to say that Finding Nemo’s just hooked me in a little more, but WALL•E’s is the soundtrack that caught me when I first saw it in theaters. Especially during the “Define Dancing” scene. It almost brought a tear to my eye it fit so well!

I’d have to say Cars. I love how it’s a movie with actual songs that aren’t score on its soundtrack. Makes it unique. Most of the others are pretty much just score. I also love the songs on there like Life is a Highway, Real Gone, Route 66, Behind the Clouds, and Find Yourself. I do think that it’s a really good soundtrack, and that’s my vote.

Hmmm…For me it’s a three way tie with The Incredibles, Wall-e, and Ratatouille. The jazzy/retro feel with the Incredibles soundtrack pumps me up, while the Wall-e mellow soundtrack really makes me relax, but the Ratatouille soundtrack makes me feel happy and inspired.
