Hey guys, so I caught the trailer for this new movie coming out this summer. It’s a mix of live-action/CGI about guinea pigs trained in espionage and must save the world. Haha.
It’s Jerry Bruckheimer’s first 3D movie, which could be interesting and I’d like to see how the live-action/animated thing turns out. What do you guys think of this one?
I was always a fan of Jerry Bruckheimer films (save At World’s End, which though had pretty compelling storylines, it just wasn’t as great as its two predecessors), but this one has to be the corniest of his work.
It reminds me of the time when I was first reminded of who “Alvin the chipmunk” was. God, I loved their animated movie; why did Hollywood have to go destroy that beautiful vision…? You cursed morons…
As for this one, however, I might give it a shot since it is Jerry Bruckheimer (the director known for all awesome action sequences), as lame as the idea of hamsters that look like a Bolt rip-off sounds…
Steve Buscemi’s in it, and therefore it will be good. Especially since he’s a hamster.
But seriously, yeah, this looks like an alright film. Nothing particularly special, though I do quite like the technique of mixing animation with live-action, as it looks pretty good in the trailer.
Thanks for telling us about the trailer, CoCoMeister! I’ve been waiting to hear an update on this film for quite a while.
I saw it two days ago, and was thinking of posting it up here, but looks like you beat me to it, CoCoMeister! But thanks for the scoop!
I think this must be the craziest thing (not in a good sense, like Pixar, but in a bad way) that Disney has come up with. Again, I’m gonna hold back criticisms and not put down a film before I’ve watched it (I watched Chihuahua and thought it average, but not abysmal. And I pre-hated Bolt because of the Chris Sanders fiasco, but now think of it as one of the best animated films of 2008 along with Wall and KFP). But these studios keep making it harder and harder for me not to be cynical. They keep recycling tired old plots. And when they run out of ideas, they pinch plots from foreign films, old movies (both of which they remake), books or TV shows.
In the case of G Force, it’s nothing new. Like Flare and Rac have said, it rips off Underdog and Bolt’s genetically-modified pet hero, Chihuahua’s talking CGI-animals, and Cats and Dogs animal counter-espionage themes. Personally I would have loved to see more diversity in the animal cast like the horse, pigeon and dolphin featured in the exposition (or even dogs and cats), but a team of hamsters and one fly? It’s beginning to sound like Hamtaro with firearms and explosives!
I liked the ending SUV crash though, and since I’m a fan of car chases, I’m bookmarking this for possible vehicular pursuit. I hope Jerry Bruckheimer doesn’t disappoint on the action front, but on the humour side, I don’t see myself chuckling too much.
Yeah, when I first read the description of this movie, I was kind of skeptical so I was really happy to see the trailer out and I know a little bit more about it. Aside from Bruckheimer producing (I’m a big fan of his too - if he can do anything, he can do action), Hoyt Yeatman is directing. I don’t know if you guys know much about him but he’s got some pretty impressive vfx work under his belt - The Abyss, Armageddon, The Rock, Crimson Tide, even Princess Diaries! So if anything, the movie will have really good visual effects & action.
I’m with thedriveintheatre in not knocking a film before I’ve seen it. Hopefully we’ll be able to check out more clips from the movie as time goes on. July 24th is a long ways away after all!
Thought I’d revive this thread with some more info…there really hasn’t been much out there since the trailer premiered a few months ago. No new clips, but Will Arnett who is one of the live-action actors in the film, gave an interview to Sci-Fi Wire.
Seems like Jerry Bruckheimer fans won’t be disappointed in terms of action sequences. And I kinda like that he’s broadening his range to include kids.
I’m a big fan of Disney (with the exception of how low modern Disney Channel has stooped nowadays)…
-I like cute rodents emphasized in movies very much (Rhino, Bugsy, Scrat, Hammy, Twitchy, Remy, Emile, Pip…and so on)
-I love watching spy action in films (don’t even get me started on a list there!)
-I like animals as heroes (Bolt, Underdog,Valiant…)
But despite all that, this isn’t looking good to me. It’s too humanized.
That’s just the thing. Over-humanizing an animal-central movie is about as bad as over-modernizing a fairy tale twist (it does help people relate to the story but when it’s done too much it’s just not that good). And too much humanization in the animals’ behavior just irks me too much.
I agree with you BDD. Like you, I’m a huge fan of classic Disney, I don’t mind talking rodents in my animated movies, I’m a fan of the spy genre (especially James Bond since Casino Royale) and I love animal heroes (Geez, I’m practically repeating whatever you just said! )
But yeah, the over-[i:14xu3ea2]personification[/i:14xu3ea2] of animals is what freaks me out (like Beverly Hills Chihuahua and this really horrible film called Good Boy!). Not to mention the animals-as-spies flick has been done before in Cats Vs Dogs (which has a sequel coming out this year named… wait for it… [url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1287468/:14xu3ea2]Cats Vs Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore[/url:14xu3ea2]. I’m not joking! ).
As for the fairy-tale with the modern twist, when it’s done right, like in the first Shrek and Enchanted, it can work out. But when it’s done badly, like Happily N’Ever After and to a certain extent, Hoodwinked…
I saw the official, full-length trailer for this piece of work some weeks ago, and I’ll tell you right now that I ain’t wasting my precious-earned dough. Is there no other plot-line you can think of developing, Disney? Why dont’ you take a leaf out of Pixar’s book for a change.

Yaaay!! No, seriously, I’m excited for this! I loved [i:2mmcdtpc]Cats and Dogs[/i:2mmcdtpc]! Sure, it was stupid, but it was stupid in a funny way. (Or maybe my sister and I just watched it so many times as kids that we now have a soft spot for it.) Bring it on. I wanna see this!
Well, yeah, I wouldn’t say I’m enthusiastic for a C&D sequel, but I did enjoy it when I was younger (I fondly remember the Siamese cat ninjas and Mr Tinkles) so I have no hate for it. The sequel’s title is cute, although it got a huge groan from me (I actually like lame puns, but this takes the cake!).
It’s uninspired action flicks like G-Force that make me wish classical Disney animation like PatF would come sooner. As I’ve mentioned, only thing I’m looking forward to is the car chase. Anything else would be a pleasant (or nasty) surprise.
I remember Cats & Dogs! That movie was silly but I think I have a soft spot for it as well…
I don’t know, maybe this movie will be one that kids enjoy and then later on have a soft spot for it too? This movie is totally getting a bad rap and really we’ve only seen the trailer and how many times have we seen trailer, been more than underwhelmed and then been pleasantly surprised by the movie? I really have faith that the cast in it will produce some laughs - Will Arnett and Tracy Morgan are two of my favorites. Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
I liked this trailer even better than the first one - got more laughs this time around (“Don’tcha wish your blow torch was hot…like…me” …okay, it made ME giggle) and a slightly different twist to the story.
For lizardgirl, you get a glimpse of Steve Buscemi’s crazy hamster and for thedriveintheatre, more of the car chase scene
Haha, thanks Woody - glad you’re enthusiastic about this film! It’s in Digital 3D…which seems to be a pretty big deal since it’s Jerry Bruckheimer’s first movie in that format. I think it should look pretty cool, especially those car chase scenes. Do you think you’ll be watching it in 3D?
Probably, I’m such a big supporter of the new format, every film that;s in 3-D I have to go see in 3-D Thanks for the info on G-Force being in 3-D though, I had no idea
Oh yeees! Car chase! Car chase! Car chase!
Vrooooom… eeeekkk… nggiiaaaoooo… Bim! Bam! Smash!
Thanks for the new trailer, CoCoMeister! I’m still annoyed they put in the flatulence and scatological humour (read: poop and fart jokes) into there, but there are some pretty smart references.
“Until their government shut them down.”
“Now the FBI’s pet project…”
Did I just hear Steve Buscemi as the control freak? “Do not cross that line!”
The mice are so cute! “RIGHT!”
I like Teddybear STHLM’s “Cobrastyle”. “My style is the bom diggy dang gi dang gi dang, diggy diggy…”
Bill Nighy as a baddie? Sounds cool.
“James Bond never had these problems…” Best line from the trailer!
The other sidekicks are stereotypical, but pretty funny.
“Poop in his hand!” “Poop in his hand!” What da heck?
Nicholas Cage, Will Arnett and Penelope Cruz! They really got their celebrity voice cast worked out!
I’m pretty excited, but I’m not sure if it warrents a theatrical visit. Though it’s great the Mr. Bruckheimer is getting his 3-D debut doing a family-friendly action-adventure flicks (and I was not being sarcastic). This looks quite wicked.
