Surprising, yet awesome news as I’m a huge Giacchino fan.
Really?!?!?! x 10
They better not be joking, as I’m a huge Giacchino fan as well.
Wow, really? Now I’m even more excited. Giacchino’s scores in previous Pixar films have been top-notch, and him composing the score for Cars 2 will give it a different feel the it’s predecessor. He’s probably my favourite Pixar composer.
It would also be cool if he and Randy Newman both worked on the score. It would make an excellent combination.
Wow! I just kind of assumed that Newman would be scoring this. However, I agree that this is a better choice, since this Cars has an international feel instead of a domestic one, the music needs to be somewhat set apart from the original Cars.
I can’t wait to see what Michael has in store for us!
Randy’s my favorite but I think this is a great choice! Really looking forward to what he’s coming up with; all of his scores are really something special.
Very exciting news indeed!
I can’t say that I’m exactly excited that he’s doing this. It’s not that he’s a bad composer or anything, but I’m just so in love with Randy’s music that I was kinda hoping that he’d come back <3. I can see why he didn’t though. I mean he did both the Princess and the Frog and Toy Story 3 really close together after doing no movie scores for a while so…
Wow! I love Giacchino, but I expected this to be Randy Newman, too. Curious to see what he does for this.

That’s stupid for this is excellent news.
Exceeellent… Mickey G, I’ll be waiting for you this side of summer.
I’m certainly happy, because Giacchino is my favorite Pixar composer, and is quickly becoming one of my favorites ever.
On the other hand, I really like musical continuity on the sequels, so I would like to have Randy Newman back, even thought his score for Cars is the one I like the less from him.
I hope Giacchino could at least use some of Newman’s themes, but I’m certain he’ll fix the sins of the original soundtrack. I find specially awful the amount of pop music found in Cars.
Excellent! The Cars 2 cover-up is gradually unfolding. Muah-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Yeah, that was something I was expecting.
After all, last year he was frequently named by the media as “the best budding composer” or the “best composer of the new generation”.
He must have job offers raining everyday.
Thanks for the link, Bryko. This thread makes me very happy.
Just a question for everyone, which of his Pixar film scores do you think he did best on? Short films count too.
On feature films, I think his best score was for The Incredibles. I can’t think of any other Pixar composer who could have done the score better. Giacchino really gave a more superhero feel to the movie. and he did fantastic on the action sequences.
In the case of short films, I think he did best on Day & Night. I won’t go into detail why.
I couldn’t decide, Geoff.
All three soundtracks by Giacchino top my list and are tied. They’re all simply too good.
The Incredibles was his most aurally distinct one, but I love Ratatouille and Up as well. He is one of the most versatile composers in the business today.
I can’t wait to hear his composition for M:I:4 next year! He did an excellent rendition for M:I:3.
I feel as if his best score was for Up, because it became a character of its own and changed based on the character of Carl, not to simply provide a cool tune in the background. It was done so well that it ended up being the greatest aspect of the near-perfect film (at least I think so). I do love Ratatouille’s score though, and The Incredibles was both fitting and a good throwback to super-hero films and spy films (mostly Mission Impossible).
Yes, this is awesome!!! Giacchino is probably my favorite composer of the now, so I’m really excited that he’s scoring the movie I anticipate the most! I’m actually curious to how this will turn out, because I never thought of Cars as really having a “Giacchino-y” feel. I’m not gonna lie, Randy Newman did a stellar job with the first movie through, especially tracks like “Goodbye” and “Mcqueen and Sally.” Nevertheless, although I though Pixar would’ve gone for consistency between movies and kept Newman, I think that Giacchino is going to add some nice spice and generally just make things awesome!
Oh, and I totally agree with Chuckles on Up!
