A new Hayao Miyazaki film is in the pipeline for release
in Japan in summer 2008: “Gake no ue no Ponyo”/“Ponyo on a cliff”.
The movie is
animated traditionally, using watercolor-/pastel-stye freehand drawings.
Plot-wise it bears a superficial
resemblance to “The Little Mermaid”: the main characters are Ponyo, a goldfish princess wishing to
become human, and Sosuke, a young boy based on Hayao Miyazaki’s own son Goro.

Yeah - I think I saw this over there at
Animated News…
Sounds interesting. I enjoyed the only Studio Ghibli film I
saw, and I love their techniques!

I’m sorry to say that I don’t like his films. Saw one of them and
hated it
Bill - What’s wrong with you!? No, Just kiddin!
You gotta remember: it’s a different style and made in a different country…
Hey, I like this guy. I love his work. And I must say, I
am quite exited to see it.

Oooh, nice! I love Miyazaki’s works, especially Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle.

Oh yes – I saw this via
Animated News and Ghibli. The concept art for
Ponyo on a Cliff is absolutely incredible – simply,
gorgeously stunning!
I’m a big fan of Mr. Miyazaki’s films, as I’ve grown
up with them since I was a kid. Every one of his films has sparked my imagination and made my eyes wide with
admiration. But, no matter how many of his films I see, it seems as if Totoro will
always be my favorite.
This new adaption of his looks brilliant, though. I can’t wait for it! I also
love the fact that he modeled the young boy character after his son – heheh.
The only Miyazaki film that I’ve ever seen was Spirited Away,
and I thought it was brilliant. I’m certainly planning to watch other films that he has made, now that
Spirited Away got me curious and interested.

Spirited Away was the one I watched. I don’t know, I found it
really disturbing.
Hmm… I’m sorry to hear that, Bill. I’ve seen all the Miyazaki films and they’re brilliant
because they are disturbing yet still heartfelt. There is an amazing amount of
emotion and care in these films and it can be seen even in the little movements of the characters.
If you
found Spirited Away disturbing, I would suggest My Neighbor Totoro. It is a “cuter” movie which is not
as deep as Spirited Away but is not particularly disturbing in any way…
I LOVE Hiyao Miyazaki!!! I’ve
watched most of his movies. My favorite is definitely “Whisper of the Heart.” In fact, I’m watching it
right now!
Well, I’ve never actually watched or finished.
his movies, I hav watched sprited away
though, but not all of it (whats wrong with me!?
) Basicly, the only time I ever watch his movies are on
Toonami…
But I don’t know, are his movies any good?

JesusFreak - Yay – another fan!

CarFreak - Any good? They’re brilliant! It’s incredible how he manages
to think up a different plot-line, various dimensions, and unique gadgets in every one of his films. Depending on
your taste, you may or may not enjoy them, but a majority of the crowd loves his stuff. I sure do. I think
they’re brilliant!

Heard about that on
Wikipedia…wonder how the film will do…though with that man’s brilliance in plot and animation, there’s no
worry
Hope Mizyazaki wasn’t serious when he said he had a final movie in mind…
My
friend taped a segment on Turner Classic Movies, and it has John Lasseter talking with the host about Miyazaki.
John happens to be a HUGE fan! John said that Miyazaki has been saying, This is my last film" for a long
time now…Well, since Whisper of the Heart, anyways.
Wow, they sound great!
One of these days I’m going to
finish Sprited Away.
But I wonder, for the ones who have seen his films, which are y’alls
favorites?

JesusFreak - Oh yeah, John is a tremendously huge fan of Miyazaki’s films. You
should watch some of the bonus features on the first disc of Howl’s Moving Castle
to see what I’m talkin’ about…
CarFreak - Cha – you should watch
'em sometime.
My favorite of his films would have to be Totoro. I’ve
loved it ever since I first saw it at the age of…four. (At least, I think I was four…)
Hmm, well, I guess Miyazaki isn’t exactly
young…Everyone’s gotta retire sometime, unfortunately.
My favourite Miyazaki film has to be between
Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away.
I’ll check it out! That was a strange movie, but which one
isn’t?
My favorite is Whisper of the Heart, hands down. Totoro was pretty
good, too, especially the music. Very catchy! I just watched Porco Rosso for the first time late last night. It
wasn’t as boring as I thought it’d be!
