Yeah lol but it changed I change daily
~Chapter 20~
“Vermella, I wanna go home.” said Mater. Vermella glared at Mater and whispered, “You’re not leavin’ this cone. If everyone knows you was the last one with Leo, then everyone is gonna ask you where she is. If you leave, remember what I said to you before about people remembering your name.”
Mater pouted his face and stared at Jane. Jane was parked and playing with the carpet with her tire. She jerked up.
“I need to potty!” she exclaimed. Vermella didn’t take her eyes off of Mater. She raised her tire and pointed in the direction of the bathroom. Jane saw this and drove in the direction of the bathroom. She paused for a moment and said, “Hey, Vermella, can we think about me going home when I come out?”
“Yep.” said Vermella. Jane smiled and continued to go to the bathroom. Mater looked at Vermella with a hurt expression on his face.
“She ain’t goin’ home…is she?” asked Mater. Vermella smiled and chuckled.
“Nope.” she said.
Mater swallowed hard.
“Why, Vermella? What do ya want? I’ll do it for ya. Just, please, give my bes’ friend’s life back.”
“What do I want?” asked Vermella. “I want what my father wanted: To kill. But, ya see, my daddy did it a different way: He just went out and did it. Me? I make my victims suffer to the point of wanting to die. Then, I go in for the kill. That way, the car I’m killing won’t feel so bad about dying, and I won’t feel too bad killin’ ‘em.”
“Your daddy?” asked Mater.
“Yep, his name was Bubba; he was an ice cold killer. He had no trouble killing anything that moved. I don’t have my mommy no more ‘cause when I was younger, he killed her.”
“Bubba…was…your dad?”
“Mmmhmm.”
“So, you took Lightning’s kid to make him depressed and now Bubba’s gonna go after Lightning?”
“Naw…my daddy died recently. That there combine harvester killed ‘em off.”
“Bubba’s dead…?”
“Yeah, I jus’ said that.”
“But then how did you know Jane was Lightning’s kid?”
“I didn’t – isn’t that great? It’s like a two in one sort of thing. Whenever I see kids wandering around by themselves, I take ‘em. No matter who the parents are, I’ll take the kid. You see, I like killing expensive things though.”
“What do you mean?”
“If the victim is rich, I get rich. It was just luck that Leo is Lightning’s kid, the fact that Lightning is rich, and the fact that my father hated the living horsepower out of McQueen.”
“But…once you kill the kids’ parents, what do you do with the kids?”
“Oh, I put them up for adoption. I KILL THEM, FOOL.”
The toilet flushed and in a few moments Jane rolled out of them bathroom.
“So when can I go home, Vermella?” Jane asked, sweetly. Vermella turned away from Mater and smiled at Jane.
“I’m gonna go get your mother right now.” said Vermella. Jane smiled very big and she started to bounce around on her shocks. Vermella looked at Mater’s hopeless expression on his face. She laughed, in a sinister way, and said, “Heard that, Mater? I’m gonna go get Leo’s mommy.”
Mater’s tow hook started to vibrate a little. He was thinking about whether or not he should use it to pull her back. Vermella noticed this and her smile got larger.
“I dare you.” said Vermella. Mater’s hopeless expression turned into a glare. Jane looked at both of them with her eyes wide and ignorant; her mouth was hanging open. Mater stopped his tow hook from moving. Vermella started to nod her hood.
“That’s right, Mater-boy.” said Vermella. She drove closer to him, “I’m gonna go get Leo’s mom now.”
Vermella’s voice started to turn into a whisper, “Don’t forget about what I told you about leaving.”
“Hey, Vermella, when can I be called ‘Jane’ again?” asked Jane.
“Leo, trust me, keep Leo. It sounds much better.” said Vermella.
“But, my daddy really liked it a lot and when I go back home and he finds out that ‘Jane’ isn’t my name anymore, he’s gonna be really sad.”
“You can tell him that every British queen that has ever been named Jane had been murdered, imprisoned, gone mad, died young, or been dethroned. Now you can tell him how pretty ‘Jane’ is.”
Jane looked down at her hood and frowned.
Vermella drove to the garage door and opened it up by pressing her tire on the switch on the floor. The door struggled to open and made an annoying humming noise.
“Vermella, wait!” Mater called out. Vermella looked in her left side view mirror at Mater.
“Don’t start to become the hero, Mater.” she said.
“No, it’s just…why did your daddy do that to your mom?” asked Mater. Vermella blinked and backed up a little with her tires turned to the right so she turns around.
Vermella’s tough expression faded as she remembered her mother, “She didn’t pass the salt.”
OMG!!! I just read the first 17 chapters of this story all yesterday and just finished the last one. Are you ever going to finish writing it?! I love it soooo much. I’ve read several fanfics and this is definetely in my top 3. Please please finish it! I nearly cried during several parts and let me tell you, it is NOT easy to make me cry over movies or books. This has inspired me so much that I think I am going to write my own fanfic. I have always wanted to but this just gave that push to actually do it. I doubt mine will be as good as yours but I’m gonna try it. Once again, this is amazing…please finish it!!!
Of course I’m going to finish it! My laptop just broke, so I haven’t been able to write. I’m getting it fixed around next week - earlier hopefully.
I’m glad you like it! x) It’s always nice to see those who like it! Let me know if you start to write because I’ll read!
Oh thank goodness! I was so scared that Ch.20 was supposed to be the end! Well I am excited for the next chapter and I’m glad you will read mine. I need a little advice though…I have the first chapter of mine written (mine is more of a short story) and I think I’m gonna post it but I’m not sure where I should post it. I want to post it on the Cars thread but I know it should go on a fan thread instead. What do you think?
Oh that’s easy. It goes right here in the Fanfiction section. I don’t think you can post it anywhere else, but when I first came here, everyone told me that this was the place to post it.
As for my story ending, it’s going to be a while until it ends. I just wish I could start typing up the next chapter. I miss writing it; I miss my laptop!!
Alright, I think I’m going to post mine either today or Monday. It’s alright if your isn’t ending yet! It’s awesome, so I’m cool with that! Yeah, that’s too bad about your laptop but take your time, as long as you do post more chapters I will wait.
EDIT K, I posted the start of mine! It’s called “Personal Affairs”.
I’ll check it out soon.
~Chapter 21~
Spring has finally arrived in Radiator Springs. The birds were chirping, Red’s flowers were blooming, and the teenagers that came to visit were singing the latest on the radio. Things weren’t going to so well for Lightning McQueen and Sally though. Jane was still gone.
“I did it!” cheered Lightning. “Look! I drove like four feet!”
Sally smiled at her husband.
“That’s great, sweetheart!” said Sally. “We need to look for Jane together.”
Sally drove next to Lightning and leaned her right tire out. Lightning leaned against her tire and drove to the exit of Doc’s clinic with her.
“Wow, Lightning!” Nurse GTO exclaimed. “Looks like someone is ready to leave!”
“I sure hope so.” said Lightning.
“You ready?” asked Sally. Lightning sighed with a smile and nodded his hood. Sally slowly pushed the swinging doors open. The sunlight burst through the crack of the door into Lightning’s eyes that were so used to the gloom of the clinic. The red race car squinted and put out his tire to open it more by himself. When his tire touched the door, he pushed, but the sunlight was gone. The shadow of a car made an eclipse on Lightning’s windshield. Lightning and Sally’s eyes focused for a moment on the car until it came in clear enough. It was a female, sparkling ruby red mustang. Her plump lips were lightly bent in a smile and her eyes were masked with happiness.
“Oh, excuse us.” said Sally. “We didn’t know you were on the other side.”
“Don’t worry, now, hun! It’s fine! I don’ bite!” said the ruby mustang. Lightning looked at her beauty and smiled. The red mustang stared right back at him. She looked at all of the racing stickers on his body.
“Oh, heavens! Sweet light! You’re Lightnin’ McQueen!!” exclaimed the ruby mustang. Lightning smiled and bowed his hood.
“So that means…you’re Sally?” asked the ruby mustang. Sally’s eyes widened.
“Uh…yes. How did you know?” asked Sally.
“That’s a bit of a story, actually. Ya see, I was drivin’ ‘round here last night when I blew a tire. Poor little me was stuck in the middle of the road-“ she thought for a moment. “When…uh…when a nice car came up to me and fixed my tire.”
“Oh, you must mean Luigi. Yeah, he’s obsessed with tires. It’s his family’s business back in Italy.” said Lightning.
“Uh…yeah him. Well, anyways, I was told that there was one little room available in your motel, Sally. I was told to check in with you when mornin’ came, so since it’s here, I would like to check in! I hope you don’t mind, but since that there door was unlocked, I drove right on in. I promised I was gonna pay though and anyone who knows me knows that I always keep my dear little promises! I was told to go to the clinic to find Lightning McQueen and then find his wife. Surly a woman of your beauty would be his wife, right?”
Sally blushed at her compliment. The spot right where her hood meets her windshield became a light pink color.
“Oh…thank you!” said Sally. “Sure, it’s fine that you went inside the room. I’ll just check you in now!”
Sally turned to Lightning, “Do you think you’ll be okay on your own?”
“Sure I will, baby. I’ll just drive on over to Luigi’s and get my tires filled with air. Being off of them for so long, things feel a bit off.” replied Lightning. He drove forward, turned around, and kissed Sally softly on the lips.
“Bye, sweetie!” he said. He made a U-Turn and drove to Luigi’s.
“Okay, let’s go!” said Sally. The red mustang smiled and drove with Sally to her motel. She was looking around at the whole town with a huge smile on her face.
“I never got your name.” said Sally. The red mustang didn’t answer. She was still in her trance staring around at the town. Sally cleared her throat and with a little more volume she said, “I said I never got your name.”
The red mustang jerked, “Oh…uh…I’m sorry I was too busy lookin’ ‘round here. I’m new so I don’t know the sights too well. My name is Vermella.”
“Nice to meet you, Vermella!”
When they arrived, Sally looked at her list of guests and found the empty space next to the words: CONE NUMBER FOUR
She started to write Vermella’s name: V-E-R-M-A-Y-
Vermella noticed this and her front tires started to shake with anger. From the corner of Sally’s eye, she was able to see Vermella’s shaking tires, as she was writing in her name. She paused and looked up at Vermella.
“Is there a problem? You’re shaking.” said Sally.
Vermella snapped out of it and said, “Oh…just a chill.”
Vermella bit her bottom lip and pressed her tongue to the back of her upper front teeth really hard, then released.
“Um…you spelled my name wrong.” Vermella said, shyly.
Sally looked down at her writing and said, “No, I just didn’t finished writing your name because I noticed you were-“
“No…no. You spelled my name wrong.” Vermella said, more firmly. Sally looked down at her name and then back up at Vermella.
“So how do you-“
“V-E-R-M-E-L-L-A.”
“Oh…okay.”
Sally rubbed her tire on the paper and the pencil marks erased. She then corrected her name and when she was finished, she looked up, and smiled.
“Alright, Vermella! You’re almost all set!” Sally exclaimed.
“Wait, huh? Almost?” asked Vermella.
“Yeah, now I just need to go to your room and check if all is well in there. I apologize for not doing it last night, but I had no idea you were coming, and no one has bought that cone. I guess…I just got lazy? I’m not sure, but I’ll go check it right-“
“No, that won’t be necessary, Mrs. McQueen!” Vermella said nervously.
“I hope you’re not worrying about me going through anything private of yours. I’m very professional when it comes to my jobs. You have nothing to worry about.”
“But what if it’s really private? Like…really private?”
“I won’t read or look at anything you don’t want me to.”
Vermella thought for a few minutes and said, “Wait! What if I go in and remove what I believe is private?”
“No problem!” said Sally.
“Then…be back soon!”
Vermella drove out of the lobby and over to cone number four. She opened up the garage door.
“Mommy!” Jane cheered, but it wasn’t Sally. Jane’s smile faded.
“Wh-Where’s my mommy?” asked Jane.
Mater looked down at his engine with a frown and looked over at Vermella.
“You…you did it…didn’t you?” asked Mater.
“Not yet. I just need to take Leo with me for a few minutes.” said Vermella.
Mater’s engine sank. The pupils in his eyes began to grow larger. His tow hook was starting to vibrate – to the point of rust raining off of it. Vermella inched closer and closer to Jane. Jane wore an ignorant smile upon her front bumper.
“You’re taking me to see my mommy now?” asked Jane. Vermella didn’t answer her, so Jane decided to try again, “Ver-mel-ah, are you taking me to-“
“It’s VER-MAY-AH!” screamed Vermella. She lifted up her tire and slapped Jane across the face. Vermella’s slap turned Vermella’s body. Jane, in so much shock, was still in her turned position. Her mouth was hanging open and a soft bit of thick oil ran down the corner of her mouth. Vermella’s tire mark was printed on her soft white paint. Her eyes were open very wide. She was frozen.
Mater’s whole body started to shake. His pupils began to shrink now. He slammed on his gas pedal and was speeding towards Vermella. At the corner of her eye, Vermella saw Mater coming, so she threw herself in reverse and Mater slammed into the wall of the cone. The wall now had a huge dent with cracks all around it. A picture on the wall of a statute mocked with a caution cone, was now on the ground cracked. Glass was everywhere.
Jane was still in that one position. Her lip was still bleeding out thick oil and she was still frozen. Vermella looked over and Jane. She glared at her and yelled, “Maybe now you won’t get my name wrong, GOT IT?”
Jane didn’t answer her.
“Now get in my trunk, Leo. We’re getting out of here for a little while.” said Vermella. Mater backed away from the wall and turned around to look at Vermella.
“She…she was never been hit by no one before….” said Mater.
“Well it’s about time someone did.” Vermella scoffed. “Now, she’s coming with me and-“
Mater flung his tow hook at the switch on the floor that opened the garage door.
“JANE! RUN!” screamed Mater. Vermella turned around fast. The garage door opened up just enough for Jane to get through, but not enough for Vermella to drive through.
“GO!” screamed Mater. Jane snapped out of it and heard what Mater said. Vermella was grabbing at Jane to catch her, but she wasn’t fast enough. Jane looked at the opening and put her pedal to her medal. She sped out of cone number four and out to the street. She looked both ways in the street and remembered that her parents always told her to never cross without them.
“YOU IDIOT! YOU FOOL!” yelled Vermella. Mater glared at her and said, “Stop makin’ fun of yourself, Ver-mel-ah. It ain’t nice.”
Vermella growled. She heard the garage door stopped opening. She turned around and sped out of the door to Jane. Mater went to the door and yelled, “JANE! RACE!”
Jane looked in her sideview mirror and saw Vermella coming up fast. She looked down the open road to Ornament Valley in front of her and revved her engine.
“RACE!” Mater yelled once more.
Jane slammed forward and was speeding through the town. She was driving so fast, a car could barely see her. She didn’t know the rules of the road, so she was driving all over the place. She didn’t know that she needed to stay on the right side of the road. Vermella was speeding around all of the cars in front of her. She was trying her best to stay on the right side of the road, but whenever there were no cars on the left side, she cheated.
“LOOK OUT!”
“HEY!”
“WATCH IT!”
“WHOSE KID IS THIS?”
That’s what all of the cars were screaming as Jane was speeding towards them and turning fast enough to be out of their way. Jane didn’t care.
The race was on.
YAY! The story is back! Great job. I’m so realieved that Jane got away (that’s my middle name by the way!). I also really like how you tied in her racing instincts to her escape.
She didn’t get away, she’s still just running away. I’m glad you liked it!
So in Vermella’s eyes, your middle name is Leo.
Yeah, I guess so! Oh, and I forgot to tell you. I loved that line at the end of that one chapter “She didn’t pass the salt.” That was so epic
Thanks!
You’re very welcome. I hope you have read a bit of mine and like it, I’m posting a new chapter tommorow.
Wow. Just, wow. Amazing. That Vermella is a crazy female dog! Why does that family just kill people for the hell of it? Is that to be explained? Or could you just come out and say it. I really want to know.
I can explain it in a chapter if you’d like.
Okay, that’d be great! I really want to know.
I agree, I would like to see an explanation behind that too.
~Chapter 22~
“Hey, Luigi!” said Lightning. Luigi and Guido were both staring at the lift in Luigi’s Casa Della Tires. Every now and then, Luigi would press his tire against the switch to make the lift go up. But when he pressed it, the lift went up about six inches, and then slammed back to the floor.
“Maledizione!” yelled Luigi. Guido flinched and said, “Non mi rompere questo!”
Luigi glared at Guido.
“Well, I didn’t break it! You must have!” yelled Luigi.
“Guys?” said Lightning.
“Si parla sempre in inglese se non volete che io capisca quello che stai dicendo a me!” yelled Guido. “Tu sei un vigliacco!”
Luigi rolled his eyes, “Per favore…”
“CIAO!” yelled Lightning. Luigi and Guido turned their hoods and saw the red racecar they haven’t seen roaming around town in a while.
“Lightning! How are you?” asked Luigi.
“Ka-Chow!” yelled Guido. Lightning chuckled.
“I’m doing okay, feeling a lot better. I’m guessing you guys aren’t doing too good in here?” asked Lightning.
“Not since Guido broke-a the lift…” said Luigi.
“Non il mio nome quando non riesco a capire!” yelled Guido.
“That’s too bad.” said Lightning.
“So what can I help you with?” asked Luigi.
“I need-“
“Ah! Wait! Don’t tell me! I shall find out myself.” said Luigi. Luigi drove around Lightning in a few circles staring down all four of his tires.
“Low on air, huh? Fast fix!”
Guido brought over an air pump to Luigi. Luigi attached the hose to his hubcap and started filling Lightning’s tires with air.
“Gee, it must really stink to break the lift first thing. I mean, I get breaking it at the end of the day, but now you can’t work on anything that well for now.” said Lightning. Luigi paused was he was doing.
“First thing? Ah, I forget you weren’t around for a while. This lift has been busted for four days!” said Luigi. He continued to fill Lightning’s tire with air.
“Oh…” said Lightning. Lightning just stared at himself in the mirror on the wall while Luigi worked on him. He looked at all of the parts of his body. He hasn’t seen himself in so long. Lightning winked at himself. But when he winked, he remembered something. He looked at his red paint and remembered that mustang that just rolled into town.
“I was drivin’ ‘round here last night when I blew a tire. Poor little me was stuck in the middle of the road…when…uh…when a nice car came up to me and fixed my tire.”
“Luigi?” said Lightning. “You just said your lift was broken.”
Luigi stopped what he was doing again. He stared at Lightning with a blank expression on his face.
“Yeah, you seen it.” said Luigi.
“So how did you fix that woman who got stuck in the middle of the road?”
Luigi’s blank expression turned confused.
“Lightning, what are you talking about?”
“That car? The one that rolled into town who needed her tire fixed?”
“Uh…?”
“You have no clue what I’m talking about?”
“Nope, maybe Guido knows?” asked Luigi. He turned his hood to Guido who was still tinkering with the lift.
“Hey Guido! Ti ricordi di aiutare qualcuno?”
“No.” replied Guido. Luigi turned to Lightning again and shrugged his tires.
“That’s…weird.” said Lightning.
“Alright, we’re almost done!” exclaimed Luigi. Lightning stared deeply into his own eyes in his reflection.
Sally drove out of her office and drove out to cone number four, where Vermella is staying.
“Vermella!” Sally called. “Vermella? Are you done?”
Sally noticed the garage door open and she saw a rust hook hanging at the side of the door. She stopped and her brakelights flashed. She squinted at the hook and her mouth opened a little. She accelerated lightly, “…Vermella?”
As she got closer to the door, the license plate: A113 came into view.
“Mater…?” asked Sally. Mater gasped and turned around to show his face through the door.
“Mrs. Sally!!!” Mater exclaimed. “Boy, I’m glad to see you!!!”
Sally’s eyes began to angle and her teeth started to clench. Mater’s eyes widened.
“MATER.” said Sally with vengeance.
“Uh…oh…” said Mater.
“GET OVER HERE!” yelled Sally.
“AHHHH!!!” screamed Mater. Mater sped out of the cone and Sally sped after him. They swerved through all of the cones. Mater spun around and faced Sally, driving backwards.
“Sally! Ah can explain!” Mater begged.
“Where’s my daughter!?” yelled Sally. Mater adjusted his mirrors so that he was able to see around him clearly.
“Listen, I know where Leo is!”
“What?? Leo?”
“Ah mean Jane!”
Sally scoffed and asked again, “WHERE IS SHE!?”
“Ah can’t say now!”
“WHERE?”
“I’m gonna die if I tell you!”
“WHERE IS SHE?”
“RACING!”
Sally slammed on her breaks and smoke rose from her back tires. She was breathing heavy and Mater stopped too.
“Racing? My baby is racing?” asked Sally.
“Mrs. Sally, please, let me explain.” said Mater.
“…and where’s Vermella?? Why were you inside of her cone?”
“Mrs. Sally, I-“
“You’re DATING her?”
“NO! It ain’t that! Listen!”
“What is it then?”
“She was taken by Vermella and we need to hurry!”
Sally took in some air.
“She’s speeding after Jane right now, Mrs. Sally.” said Mater.
“I’m not fast enough to catch her!”
“MATER!” yelled a familiar voice in the distance. A loud engine was heard coming closer and closer to him. Mater and Sally turned around and saw Lightning speeding over to Mater, about to ram him. His eyes were filled with fury.
“Lightnin’! No!” yelled Sally.
Lightning heard Sally’s request and skid in front of Mater.
“You know that red car that was talking to us this morning? She took Jane!” said Sally.
“Did you know she wasn’t at Luigi’s? He said that his lift has been broken, so he couldn’t have helped her.” said Lightning.
Mater nodded and said, “She’s a liar and she’s sick! She’s Bubba’s daughter and-“
“Bubba…where has he been?” asked Lightning. There was a small pause between the conversations. The wind started to pick up.
“Bubba died.” said Mater. Sally and Lightning looked at each other. They both didn’t know what to think.
“Listen to me.” said Mater. “She is sicker than Bubba. Bubba will kill instantly, but Vermella…she’s sick. She will…she’ll…mess with your brain and stuff! She’s tryin’ to make y’all get sad enough to not wanna live no more. She kills only then so that she won’t feel as bad. She usually goes for the kids to make the adults feel bad and she’s gonna kill Jane if we don’t hurry up right NOW!”
“How do you know this?” asked Sally.
“I know. I just know. She was using me, so I know.” replied Mater. “Trust me.”
Lightning glared at Mater, “I did trust you.”
Mater started to lower himself, “Lightnin’…”
“Lightning, you need to get her. I’m not fast enough. Jane is running from her right now. You’re the only one fast enough.” said Sally.
Lightning revved loudly, “I’m going to get her.”
“Be safe…” said Sally. “Lightning?”
“Yeah?” asked Lightning.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
Lightning drove to Sally and kissed her.
“Bye, Lightnin’.” said Mater. Lightning ignored him and sped down the street. In a few seconds, he was gone.
“Please don’t make this a race where you finish in third…” Sally whispered to herself.
Jane was flying at speed of 230 miles per hour. She dodged every rock, every oil slick, and every lady bug she happened to see on the street.
“Jane!!!” called Vermella, as she was speeding behind her. Jane ignored Vermella and continued to speed away from her. She looked in her side view mirrors to see where Vermella was. She squinted at the words on her mirror that she didn’t notice before which read:
OVHWXRA UB NUEEIE AEW XKIAWE RGAB RGWT AOOWAE
Which, to those who can read, read:
OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR.
Thinking that Vermella was closer than she actually was, Jane sped up even more.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you, Jane! Look, see? I’m calling you ‘Jane’ instead of ‘Leo’ now! Come on, I was kidding! Jane, listen!” Vermella begged.
Jane felt her axles throbbing. Her engine felt like it was on fire. Smoke was starting to come out from under her hood. Jane screamed at a really high pitch and she unlatched her hood. Jane’s hood flew open from the wind and smoke was rising out of her. Other cars on the road started to swerving around and were screaming as well. Jane’s hood fought against the wind since it was up and this started to slow her down.
Vermella smiled wide while she gasped for air. She forced herself to go faster to catch up with Jane, who was now going slower than her. Something in the distance was flying towards Vermella’s face. It was a white square of metal coming at her. Vermella drifted out of the way and it dropped to the street. Once it hit the ground, it made a loud crashing noise. Vermella ignored that and continued to speed after Jane.
Lightning could feel himself getting tired of speeding. Missing out on the racing season this year and not moving from one spot in Doc’s clinic took a toll on the athlete’s body. Lightning could feel that he seemed much heavier than usual. His shadow on the street agreed with him. But he couldn’t stop. He needed to fight to get his daughter back. Though he could use a break, Lightning kept himself on the road. He kept himself on the road until a white square on the street caught his eye. He could easily ignore it, but judging on its size, he needed to inspect it really quick. He slammed on his breaks and his back tires locked. Smoke also rose from them.
He squinted at the square on the road. With a tire, he put a groove of his tire against an edge of the square and let it rest in. He moved his tire up and down so the sun sparkled on the paint that was all over the square. White paint with a touch of glitter, so he knew that it must have been from a car, and he knew it was a hood. The hood had tire tread marks on it, as if another car smacked the car that lost the hood. Lightning looked out on the street in front of him to see if there was a car up ahead and there wasn’t. He looked back at the paint on the hood. There was only one car that Lightning knew who had paint like this.
Jane.
Lightning’s eyes shot to the tire tread on her missing hood. Noting the details of the tire marks and the fact that Jane’s hood is detached, Lightning felt his engine sink and his gas tank turned.
“WHO?” Lightning yelled out. “WHO DID THIS?”
Lightning looked around him. He looked at all of the cars that were speeding past him on the other side of the road. The cars stared at him as if he were some crazy homeless man just yelling random things out into the air. The white square that McQueen was holding looked like a sign he was holding up to the other cars. The other cars thought the tire marks were words written on the white sign, but at the highway speeds they were moving at, they couldn’t see that the white square wasn’t a sign and the tire marks on the hood weren’t words.
Unfortunately, there was an aqua green colored car who took note of Lightning McQueen. Her name was Kori Turbowitz and she was a reporter for RSN: Racing Sports Network. From time to time, Kori also wrote in a newspaper, and sometimes ran other news reports on television. Lightning McQueen’s new situation of “poverty” made him unattractive to Ms. Turbowitz, so she continued to speed on without any attempt to make sure McQueen was actually holding up a sign. And since she wasn’t thinking, she forgot that Lightning hadn’t raced in a while, which is why he looked like he gained some pounds. A news report without a camera man or any other type of evidence is useless, but lucky for Kori, her PRESS sticker that’s located on her left fender has a camera in the little circle of the capital “R”. She snapped a photo of McQueen at the speed she was going. The photo itself will look blurred, which will also give the public a shock once they see.
Lightning McQueen snapped out of his angry fit on the road. He remembered that he had a car to catch. He continued to speed down the road to catch up with Vermella and Jane. While racing down the road, he realized that the car that made those tire marks on Jane’s hood must have been Vermella herself, if she was the only car who has seen her since she disappeared. But there was another car who was with Jane and that car was Mater.
Mater.
Lightning’s best friend, who said it himself, he was working with Vermella. Mater and Vermella were the only cars who have seen Jane since she disappeared. So it must have been one of them. It must have been. Lightning slammed on his breaks and stopped racing.
“So…this must be a trick.” said Lightning. Lizzie drove past Lightning on her way to a garden to pick some flowers for her curio shop.
“How many times do I have to tell you, son? You keep talkin’ to yourself, people will think you’re crazy!” said Lizzie. Lightning rolled his eyes and Lizzie kept on driving. Lightning turned himself around and started to drive, at a normal speed, back to Sally and Mater.
“The hood on the floor? Obviously placed there on purpose. The cries of ‘Vermella has her!’ were complete bulldozer-“
A horn blared behind Lightning.
“MOVE IT!” yelled the male car behind him. Lightning sped up a little more.
“I was driving into a trap. For all I know, I could have just been driving to my death.” said Lightning.
Lightning growled.
“I’ll show ‘em.” said Lightning. “I will show them.”
The image of his best friend was painted into his mind.
“…and I’ll start with Mater first.”
