I think it’s definitely the best, not just my favorite.
Just saw the trailer, and I’m excited again.
Ice Age 2 was probably my second favorite besides the beginning. It still had the wit of the first film, “All unatended children will be eaten!” And Noah’s Ark being my favorite story ever, I loved the masses of animals in those beautifully animated shots roaming the landscape and stampeding in huge numbers. And the two frozen sea reptiles, Cretaceous and Maelstrom, were my favorite part of the film besides the boat and animal scenes. Mostly due to my love for dinosaurs since infancy anyway. It was a good movie, and I have loads of nostalgia for it.
Ice Age 3 felt like any old summer animated movie, like Shrek or Despicable Me. Lots of comedy, but some rather kickass action. It lost the uniqueness of the original two films with here, but it was fun. Buck quickly grew on me, as I thought I wouldn’t like him, but really… as a dinosaur nerd all my life, some of the dinosaurs dissapointed me. The Triceratops dinosaurs really were bizarre with those HUGE frills, and just my nerd rage when the group was being threatened by an Ankylosaurus and a group of herbivores!!! D: Oh come on. But the story was once again, a journey, to Lava Falls, which wins a few coolness points. But Peaches was cute, and again, I loved the few scenes of the masses of animals on the surface. Scratte was… well, hauntingly familiar to my own rather unfortunate love life… but it took away from a visually interesting main journey. Finally, Rudy was cool, and truly menacing, but I think he should’ve just been a Spinosaurus, not a Baryonyx. That way, when the Momma Rex defeats him, it’s like payback for Jurassic Park III’s now-classic Rex Vs Spino battle.
Watching the trailer for 4, I’m intrigued, but really put off by the insane amount of cartooniness in this trailer. Sure, it was funny how it showed Stonehenge, giraffes, etc, but that was just waaaay too silly and cheesy for me. There’s so many scientific wrongs there, but, it’s animation. I smiled seeing Rudy and Buck. According to the summary, Manny, Sid, and Diego go on a voyage to find the others, so it sounds like Ellie, Crash and Eddie, and the apparently teenage Peaches are going to have smaller roles, unless they go after them themselves. I wonder how the rest of the animals in the Ice Ages react to all this…
Oh, and regarding the “time jumps” between movies, the Earth went through not just one Ice Age, but dozens of them. It’s possible that one Ice Age lasted from the beginning of the first film to a few years later at the start of the second one. And then, we see it starts to snow again in the third one, when it was already shown to be melting in The Meltdown. The start of another Ice Age. So really, at most, there’s only a few years in between each film. Enough time for an Ice Age to end, start, melt, and for Ellie to get pregnant with Peaches.
I actually don’t like the story of Noah’s ark for various reasons I will not go into here. Overall, I don’t hate Ice Age 2 and I’m glad Manny found someone. It was just not my favourite- the FIRST movie remains to be the best one in my opinion but I enjoyed the third for it’s cooky humour as well as the mother dinosaur. Still, the first beats all.
And I’m afraid the time jumps could still be considered an issue. Ice ages lasted thousands upon thousands of years as did the periods of time inbetween them (interglacial periods). It could not really be a completely new ice age then.
If anything the only explanation I could think of that is it’s starting to warm up maybe a bit but it was just that localised area at the time or something suffered spectaculary for a short while (and this event was very short) and the ice age they are in itself IS coming to the end or getting warmer. Since it doesn’t seem to be completely icey anyway like the first film even in the third at least. But the first film gave the impression the idea of an ice age was cooling or something to them for the moment in my eyes and really kicking off properly “Prepare for the Ice Age!”- Dodo’s etc and some other things (it’s been a while), hence it could be considered an issue.
Let’s call it a plot point they forgot about I guess. It’s possible they’re still coming to a warming period, but it would take a long time for everything to melt at that rate and then another ice age to start. Volcanoes helped start the warming though. But not THAT quickly if I remember correctly. (I’d have to look it up again).
But if the continents drift apart as fast as they did on top of Scrats influence in it, it’s going to be difficult to suspend belief.
But I don’t think these films are what could be considered ‘factual’ anymore. Eh. This movie could still be fun, we’ll just have to see.
NOOOO, this franquise should be done, Ice Age has turned into the next Shrek, it annoys me every sequel Fox releases of it, but it is undestandable to receibe a fourth installment, knowing that it was a HUGE hit overseas
I really hope Monsters Inc. 2 crushes this at the Box Office (international)
I am saddened by this news. I though Ice Age 3 was horrific and one of the worst animated movies I’ve ever seen in my life. This disappoints me because it futher diluts the awesomeness of the First Ice Age by releasing a second uncessary sequel.
agree, they focused on pop-culture jokes, and blue-sky made it so unfunny, the story of bringing back the little dinosour to its family is the same that the one they used in the first film, the difference is that they change a little child for a baby tyrannosaurus
Well, 20th Century Fox has just announced the cast for Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. Minor spoilers about new characters ahead, although they’ll probably be revealed in the next trailer.
Jeremy Renner plays Gutt, “a master of the high seas determined to make Manny, Sid and Diego part of his crew,” pirate Wanda Sykes Sid’s stowaway granny, and Keke Palmer plays Peaches, the now adolescent offspring of Manny and Ellie, Aubrey “Drake” Graham as Ethan, a “handsome young mammoth who has eyes for Peaches”, and Jennifer Lopez as Shira, a “sabretooth tigress who melts Diego’s heart”.
But the most intriguing newcomer is Aziz Ansari, “a prehistoric rabbit who fancies himself a tough guy.” Coincidentally, he’s the co-star of Jesse Eisenberg (from Rio, another Blue Sky film), in the action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less, which opens today!
Plenty of promising newbies, along with the principal cast returning, and a lot of character development and interaction potential in store. And yes, Chris Wedge is back as the unstoppable and indestructible Scrat, although it remains to be seen whether his love interest Scratte (Karen Disher) will return too. I was quite bitter with Blue Sky over how they ruined the Scrat x Scratte romance which I was looking forward to in the third movie, so hopefully they don’t mess up the two romances they have in the next one. If they can repeat the cuteness of Manny and Ellie’s courtship in the second movie, or the ‘bromance’ camaraderie of the first, then we might have a winner next year. If not… then I guess we get something along the lines of Lethal Weapon 4 - fun, but forgettable.
What do you guys think of the lineup? Getting warmer? Or still frigid?
I’ll probably give this one a shot seeing that I loved the first two and I’m a Bluesky fan. I’m not too sure what to think of the cast since there’s alot of music talents in the film.
Great to hear that, Ballboi. I’m not familiar with most of the actors in the Ice Age franchise, so could you elaborate which actors are the music talents?
One thing Blue Sky’s great at is musical numbers. They’ve done a few throughout the series and for their latest film Rio, so I have high hopes they’d do another along the lines of the inspired Food Glorious Food song-and-dance sequence.
Anyway, I can’t wait until we get a full-length trailer. And really, shouldn’t there be a theatrical one-sheet now? There is a blurry camera photo around the Internet, but I’d like a proper high-quality digital version.
This series has gone on too long. The first one was a really good movie. The second one was so bad it was sad. I get that it was mainly setting up for the third but it was lousy. The third one I liked (not as much as my classmates who felt it was the “best animated film ever” and those were actually said!). I hope the fourth a good one.
Toy Story 3’s record is probably going down when this movie is out. Ice Age dawn of the dinosuars made over $800 million.
Well so far its Jennifer Lopez, Drake and Nicki Minaj who are all new to the series.
Pirates make everything better, so I’ve got high hopes for this. Not just the pirate thing, though. But eh.
I’m not believing any of the voice actor hubbub though because I’m still sour of this supposed skunk in Kung Fu Panda 2.
Yay Wanda Sykes will be in this! She’s one of my favorite comediens.
I loved her on the new adventures of old Christine.
I thought the first one was okay, but I thougt the second and third were quite bad. I think that they are just pushing the film series way too much. The official synopsis doesn’t sound great to me either. So I am not expecting anything great.
I saw a trailer for this when I saw Madagascar 3 (which was really good btw), and in the trailer they said that Nicki Minaj and Drake were in the film. Really Blue Sky? Really? -_-. I really hope this is the last Ice Age movie because it’s really overstayed it’s welcome IMO.
I’ve only seen the original Ice Age and The Meltdown, haven’t seen Dawn of the Dinosaurs. They’re kind of going overboard with this franchise.
And have you noticed a pattern with Blue Sky’s movies?
Ice Age->Original Film (Robots)->Ice Age 2->Original Film (Horton Hears a Who)->Ice Age 3->Original film (Rio)->Ice Age 4.
Like I said, I’m hoping Blue Sky is done with Ice Age after this because they need some more original movies.
Actually, I never did notice that. Thanks for telling me.
I’m only going to see this because of The Simpsons short that is playing before it. Also, I’ve never seen the third one either.
