Is there any hope for a Cars 3?

LOL. I wonder what would happen what would happen if we sent them like a huge folder just filled with letters saying things such as what we liked about the Cars movies, what we didn’t like, and of course- our demands for the 3rd Cars. 8D

Haha! Anyway, they should only do a Cars 3 if they have a good story. I don’t think well see a sequel from Pixar for a while after Monster’s University.

Well, we waited how long for the sequel? I don’t think we should expect any more Cars movies anytime soon…

I don’t see there’s any need for another film.

Cars 1 showed us their world in our country, and Cars 2 showed us their world in others. From here, we know there’s only one other place to go: Cars in Space! And i think other than Moon Mater, we won’t go there.

I don’t know. I highly doubt well see a Cars 3 in the future since the second one was a failure. Cars 2 kind of accomplished in expanding the world of Cars seeing that all we saw in the first film was Radiator Springs and a couple other places.

That’s true. There’s still hope though! I mean, how long did it take for a third Toy Story? Like 11 years? Oh my gosh, please don’t be that long. I’ll be in my late 20s going to see Cars 3, pushing all the little kids out of the way. 8D

If they made one in 11 years, I would be 30 or 31.

I don’t think they’ll make a Cars 3 at all. Toy Story 1 and 2 were tremendously well recieved both critically and commercially, unlike Cars and Cars 2 (not making many friends here…), and the third film was very well timed and very relevant. The Cars series just doesn’t have the same appeal and the same fanbase.

Yeah, I agree with definedancing. While a good portion of us avid Pixar fans are also huge fans of Cars, there aren’t a lot of us out there. The rest of the world (besides the group of young boys ranging between 3-6 years old) didn’t so much like the first movie, and really didn’t like the second. I don’t think a Cars 3 would be well received at all, unless they come up with an amazingly creative story, but I really don’t see that happening. I’d be afraid that Pixar would seriously diminish their reputation if they actually went through with this. So, yeah. I really hope they do not make a Cars 3. :unamused:

Oh yeah! Cars 3: When Lightning McQueen is invited to an intergalactic race, it’s non-stop space thrills when Mater gets mistaken for Captain Pi-Car’d and has to save the intrepid explorer, Starship Enterprise, from being vaporised by Carth Vader and the Death Car.

On a serious note, I love the first Cars. I like the second but it was so gorram random, which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if they went even more ridiculous for a 3rd like I joked. I was excited for more Lightning McQueen when the movie was announced, but what I eventually got was very little of him and more Mater’s Tall Tales. I like those but I thought it would have catered for their Mater obsession and let Lightning be the star again for the actual movie.

So if there is a 3rd one day, I think they could redeem everything by making it both focused on Lightning with sparse use of Mater, and bring back the emotion. Make us care about these characters again, because we really want to.

Haha, what would they call it, Car Wars? Or Car Trek? 8D

Yes, seriously. You really have to pry this second one apart to find the emotion in it, and that’s really just because, there isn’t any. The parts where they tried to show character development, such as when Lightning and Mater “make up” from their fight (when Mater’s trying to get away because he has a bomb on him), were underdeveloped and just made me want to cringe all the way through them. It was more like something you’d see on a children’s TV show rather than a Pixar movie. I just wish they’d executed it better, and maybe come up with some more realistic reasoning behind things. In the past, that’s what they’ve been known for.

But okay…if I put aside my critic and stop thinking of this as a movie, but rather, Cars, then I’d love to see another one. :-D)

Really? From where I’m standing, I saw most of the flak from critics and very little from moviegoers. Everybody I’ve asked at least liked it.

Of course, I live in Oregon, where the green movement/alternative fuel is a HUGE deal, so I can’t say for sure how much the difference in enjoyment up here is political or not.

^Oh, no, you’re probably right. I actually haven’t met anyone personally yet who didn’t like Cars. I was taking that mainly from what I’ve heard, which would mostly be the critics. So I don’t really have any factual backing there, I suppose. :unamused:

Heehee. XB

Next time you’re at a theater, see if you can people watch a little, or even ask people what they thought. While critics are important, I’ve found you can learn a lot just listening to normal people’s reactions to a film.

Heck, I enjoy reactions so much I HATE when I wind up with a theater all to myself. I think I’ve learned a lot of writing tips naturally just from noting what people find funny/serious/boring.

I don’t wan’t a Cars 3 either, it way flop critical wise and money wise, it would be a bad idea.

Critical, yes. Money, possibly, but once numbers for toy sales come in I think that’ll make a major difference economically speaking.

Now, that’s actually not a bad idea. I’ll be sure and do that next time I’m in a theater.

Oh yeah, completely know what you mean.

Yes. I think that maybe a major push for Cars 2 might have had something to do with the merchandising. Does anyone know where the money from all that goes?

Maybe if someone like SALLY was the main character instead of mater, then maybe…(but i doubt it, i dont really think there is a need for a 3rd film)
im sure the cars stuff will continue, cos disney love making merchandise for it!

A prequel with Sally would be interesting, but other than that I have trouble seeing a story centered around her being particularly interesting. She spends most of her time in her office, after all.

Yes. If they make a Cars 3, Mater should be a minor character and they should give the spotlight to someone else. He’s gotten way too much attention now, and in the toons and the sequel I feel that they failed to stay true to his original character from the first film.
