Bill - Ohh!! Heheh. I retract my statement… ![]()
I am totally sure that he loves Ratatouille. He probably seen it maybe three times already.
sweet site bill. really cool. thanks for the link.
Here’s the latest poster for Sweeney Todd .

I think I’m gonna wet my pants… ![]()
Holy cow! That is creepy! Thanks so much Bill.
No problem, TSS . I love reporting these things. ![]()
Is it just me, or does that pic remind you so much of Edward Scissorhands? It looks like his attic as well.
Oh my gosh, that’s going to be awesome.
I believe that I’m the only person on the boards who knows this, but for those of you who don’t, Johnny is Tim Burton’s son’s godfather. That’s definitely not a surprise.
Bill - You’re kidding? Well, you’re right: That doesn’t surprise me at all, either. ![]()
Well, I didn’t know that bill, so it definetely surprised me.
Tim confirmed in a interview that Sweeney Todd will be rated R (what I was expecting) and will have seventy percent singing. He said the making of the film was one of his most challenging yet : " To do an R-rated musical that has seventy percent singing was kinda like, " Well, I haven’t done that one before. ’ It’s exciting to keep surprising yourself and see what happens."
And yes, Johnny will provide his own singing for the film. It’s his first time, so I’m excited for that. The film will go into limited release on December 21st, just in time for the holidays. It’s certainly not a holiday film, but Tim joked : " Red is a color at Christmas."
The film goes into wide release on December 25th.
Oh, getting back to Tim for a second, he is expecting his second child on December 7th. Congratulations, buddy. ![]()
Ah, interesting. 70 percent singing: hmm. I’ll have to look into this one. ![]()
Neat. Congratulations, Mr. Burton! ![]()
Oh a second kid? Wondeful news! Crongrats to the man!
I think Tim Burton has a very distinctive style that’s always very apparent in his films. He’s my favourite film director, he’s done so many absolutely incredible movies. He and Johnny are very close, too; there’s a book of interviews by Tim Burton called Burton on Burton which is – well, first very good, but also – in it’s second published revision, and both times, Johnny has written the foreword for it. Johnny pretty much states point blank in it that he wouldn’t have an acting career if it wasn’t for Tim Burton giving him the role of Edward Scissorhands; it let him get out of 21 Jump Street which he was really hating and into more serious acting.
In case I don’t mention him enough times in my bio, I adore Johnny Depp. He is gorgeous, but it’s more for his acting than anything else. He’s done so many incredible roles that I’ve loved: Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Finding Neverland, Pirates of the Caribbean, From Hell, Secret Window, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?, Benny and Joon, Cry-Baby… Okay, I could pretty much list his whole filmography, so I’ll restrain myself. XD But he’s incredible, he’s done just about every genre, always different roles, different situations. I’m so looking forward to seeing Sweeney Todd, although since it’s a musical first and foremost, I’m not sure how Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are going to be in the leads. Helena’s one of my favourite actresses, I’ve never seen her in something I haven’t liked, and she plays villians to a tee, but I’m not sure if Tim Burton cast her because she’ll be the best in the singing role, or because she’s his wife. XD
Also, Vim and I saw Laura Michelle Kelley in Lord of the Rings in London recently and she has an absolutely amazing voice; I’ve been moaning to Vim ever since that they’ve cast her in the role with the least singing. No one knows if Johnny can sing 'cause he’s never sung in a role before, and Helena has a limited range (apparently they had to change the Corpse bride to suit her voice). And this absolutely incredible singer who has the West End battling over her gets the smallest part! XD Odd casting for a musical! I’m dying to see it, though.
Sweeney Todd will actually go into wide release on December 21st, although only on around 1500 theaters on the opening weekend according to the most recent information.
Have any of you seen Finding Neverland ? If so, could you give a review please?
Haha, true, but he said himself he got to ‘spoof’ his image with Cry-Baby, whereas Edward Scissorhands let him move away from it all together. "This role for me was not a career move. This role was freedom. Freedom to create, experiment, learn and exorcize something in me. Rescued from the world of mass-product, bang-‘em out TV death… In essence, I owe the majority of whatever success I’ve been lucky enough to have to that one weird, wired meeting with Tim.’ (From his – rather angry – foreword to Burton on Burton.) He probably wouldn’t have landed Edward Scissorhands if it weren’t for Cry-Baby – but then he obviously wouldn’t have gotten Cry-Baby if it wasn’t for 21 Jump Street. XD Funny that he hated it so much and yet he probably wouldn’t have had half the career he has if it wasn’t for that show.
And Bill, Finding Neverland is fabulous. I’ve watched it quite a few times now, and I still cry every time. It’s not a strict biopic of James Barrie’s life, it sort of takes actual people and events and re-arranges them to tell the story of how Barrie created Peter Pan, but it’s shot beautifully and the acting is superb. (Of course, I’m extremely biast since I love both Depp and Winslet with the burning passion of a thousand suns, but still, it’s very good!)
