I’m still freaking out over the regular old 3D animation in this movie.
I mean look at this:
THE FEATHERS.

I am a huge fan of 3D feathers…
But not Po and Tigress.

But yeah, I really love that scene where Tigress hugs Po. It can be interpreted in any number of ways. Personally I think of it in terms of Finding Nemo’s “I Don’t Want To Forget” scene - the characters have really grown to care so much and depend on each other, that to lose one would be unimaginable.
Also, I was reading ‘The Art of KFP2’ in a bookstore the other day and it was fascinating to read about Shen’s character rigging. Apparently they have tons of layers in his tail feathers along, which they can individually manipulate and control so that they can part, swoop up, lie flat, etc. They also had to give his clothes a ‘heathered’ quality, so that it stand out from his feathers, and apparently Nico Marlet’s original design had him having a bigger head and beak (like the goose from Shrek or duckling from Puss in Boots). I’m really glad they stuck with the final design, his beady eyes and smaller head give him a more menacing and treacherous look.
Love to get a copy of the book, BTW. You can have a preview on the Wikia.
Oh, and there’s an animated series? WAT?
It sucks I still haven’t got a chance to see this yet. This positive feedback of it being one of Dreamworks’ best films makes me want to check it out for myself.
I’d say it’s about Dreamworks’ third or fourth best.
I don’t think it reached the original’s level, though.
Well, the only drawback I would say is that I wish there was more variety in setting (it really only takes place in one city) and it was longer so we could explore more of Shen’s past and see more interaction between the Furious Five. But other than that, it’s definitely one of the best in Dreamworks’ pantheon. Should be available for rent or buy now, Baliboi!
It is available. I watched it about two or three months ago.
Maybe one of these days I’ll purchase the DVD copy. It’s been avaliable here since Christmas time.
