Kung Fu Panda 2

I like Cars, and I’m female.

Anyway, I love Kung Fu Panda sooooo much. I’d really like to see the sequel, even if it stinks, and it’s a rental. I hope Po finds a female panda.

I too am part of the apparently rare breed of Cars loving female.

The teaser for KFP II was cool, I saw it in theaters before Megamind. It was awesome to get a compliment from Po/Jack Black.

Whoa whoa WHOA, either I’m incredibly slow or I’m just a moron, but is there gonna be a skunk in this one? Woot! Skunks are awesome! Way to go Dreamworks!

Bambi’s Flower would like to point out that skunks do much, much more than just stink.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting much from the teaser (and just as I anticipated, it was only a simple interstitial logo reveal and a single character vignette), but it really upped the excitement level for me! Hands up if you actually joined Po in the staring contest the first time you saw it (I know I did).

I’m really, really, really excited to see the full-length trailer for this. I hope it doesn’t have a Shrek 2 or Toy Story 3 vibe of too many new characters and too little screentime, but I am excited to see the returning ones. I’m also interested to see how they develop speculative fan pairings like Po x Tigress and Crane x Viper (the latter of which, I have seen no evidence for, but still believe in it). And I can’t wait to see a fellow Malaysian (Michelle Yeoh) voice, of all creatures, a goat! 8D

This, Cars 2 and Rio’s full-length trailers… I’m really looking forward to.

Badger: If you like skunks and Kung-Fu, I recommend you to check out a TV show called… Skunk-Fu.

Great teaser! It really brought out the charm and humour of the first Kung Fu Panda.

I also saw the trailer in theaters, right before MegaMind. And honestly, I hated it. Hated, hated, hated, hated the trailer. I mean what the heck was that? He just stared at the screen for 20 seconds ! 20 Seconds!?! What kind of lame cop out was that? Where they too lazy to simply show actual animation from the film? That was low, even for DreamWork’s standards.

Needless to say, I am very excited for this film (but not because of that weak trailer!) and might see it when it comes out.

I like the hungry fist part. But I prefer the Cars 2 teaser because Owen Wilson’s voice is so mmm~

Not a bad teaser, but is it just me or is Po’s facial animation way too squash and stretchy? I know he’s supposed to be fat, but still. And that weird movement between “staring contest” and “go” was really awkward looking. They should’ve cut that out, it seems like a graph editor disaster that they decided to just leave in.

I know I’m ridiculously nitpicking, but whatever. The teaser is better than the Cars 2 one, I’ll give it that.

Interesting how there seems to be mixed opinions about the teaser.

Anyway, here’s the first poster for ‘Skadoosh 2’:

Would have been less bland if they added a couple of grinder sparks at the bottom and made him look more gritty à la Harry

I really want to see this. More than Cars 2. I love the first one so much, but I feel the ending left much to be desired. This is a great idea.

Kung Fu Panda 2 Teaser Trailer review:

No more than two minutes ago, I was searching on the internet when I came across a message stating that the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2 has now been released on the internet. It’s not that I didn’t like the original film, or DreamWorks as a whole, I just felt that the movie didn’t deserve all the praise it got. It was simply a comedy starring Jack Black while the story, supporting actors, and effects seemed to only improve his role in the film. It was a good movie that was effective in its own right, but the fact that it earned an Oscar nomination, gained the youth’s opinion as the best animated movie of the summer, and sweeped nearly every single award at the Annies (even if the awards were unfairly rigged to favor DreamWorks) seems like too much. When Wall•E was released a month later, critics praised it and audiences enjoyed it, but neither group was able to recognize the sheer subtle brilliance of the film. It was ahead of its time in the sense that if people saw the movie on its own it would appear to them as a cute little romantic comedy for kiddies only, but if they wanted to know all the back-story (no matter how serious or dark it was) they would have to do a little research. It wouldn’t be fair to compare Kung Fu Panda with Wall•E because the former is 75% jokes, 10% pop-culture references, 10% action, and 5% Jack Black screaming. In conclusion it was a good movie, but not as serious a movie as what people were comparing it to. Now fast-forward about two and a half years later. That day is today, when I first saw the notice of the Kung Fu Panda 2 trailer. I knew a sequel was in production, and secretly hoped it would be as inspired as the first movie and not a cash-in like every single DreamWorks sequel following Shrek 2 (of which there are currently three). I have not watched the trailer at all yet, which is why I am writing this review. As of now the trailer could leave me feeling disappointed or impressed, but I do not already know the answer as of now. So, let’s dive in to the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 2, as I have no idea what it will be like.

The trailer starts off nicely. We get a full aerial shot of the Chinese mountains where the Furious Five reside; we even get to see the peach tree from the first movie in full bloom. Then we hear Jack Black singing the opening to “Kung Fu Fighting”, but as of now I am still debating on whether this trailer will turn out good or bad. Then we hear a goofy announcer announce that the “awesomeness” from the first movie has returned as we see Po practicing his fighting techniques in a cave. I’m actually rather impressed so far; there’s nothing worth loving, but this trailer hasn’t offered me anything to hate yet. The trailer might be half over, but let’s carry on. Then…it ruins its self. Po stares at the audience for a whopping twenty seconds without talking or moving. It’s not funny, it’s boring, and it’s a waste of a comedic genius and good animation. Now I know the inevitable. Any second now the cheesy announcer from before will shout “In Mind-Boggling 3-D!” The title has arrived, Kung Fu Panda 2. It has dropped its sub-title, the Ka-Boom of Doom, but I can relate to this drop. Shrek 3 was called Shrek the Third, Shrek 4 was called Shrek Forever After, and Madagascar 2 was called (bare with me now) Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. All these sequels used horrible puns in their names indicating their number, and all of them were equally horrible. The only good DreamWorks sequel was Shrek 2, and what do you know? No pun or sub-title! However the trailer isn’t over yet…any second now the moment I feared is coming…here it comes…”In 3-D!” Argh! Why is 3-D even invented? Half the time it doesn’t work, and when it does it causes headaches and the muscles around your eyes to cramp up. Whether it works or not it ruins the effect of the movie because no matter how captivating the film is, you never have a chance to believe in its world because you are always aware that you are an ordinary person sitting in a theatre watching a fictional tale on a projection while wearing embarrassing glasses. Finally the trailer has ended, and I am extremely disappointed. Even if it was a teaser, there were no hints at the plot, or any other characters other than Jack Black making a fool out of himself. Po’s unnecessary enthusiasm was the reason why so many people loved him in the first movie, so now that he’s staring at the screen doing nothing is the equivalent of DreamWorks saying, “Please see our movie, even if we made this trailer two months prior just to compete with Pixar’s new teaser for Cars 2 that was released a while ago.” I’m upset, and although I will probably still see this movie, I am not expecting it to be good. I give the trailer a D+.

I don’t think KFP was trying to be better than Wall-E. That’s a lot to ask. Personally, I feel an emotional attachment to Kung Fu Panda and Po. I love Wall-E, but I like KFP just as much, even if Wall-E is a better film.

I would probably include ‘Jack Black screaming’ under the 75% jokes and add 5% Heart. There are some truly touching scenes like Master Oogway’s ascension, Master Tigress’ backstory with Tai Lung and Master Shifu, and the ‘almost-death’ end scene.

And like you said, it would be unfair to compare KFP with Wall-E. It’s like comparing Jackie Chan’s kung-fu comedy ‘Project A’ to an epic science-fiction like 2001: Space Odyssey. We watch them for different purposes.

I was a little disappointed with the ‘staring contest’ cop-out, but I have resigned myself that this is only a teaser, and that it’s nothing more than a character vignette. If anything, I found it pretty funny trying to ‘best’ Po, but that’s just me. Hopefully the next full-length trailer will be more meatier in narrative.

Just saw the teaser, to quote syndrome:

“Lame,lame,lame, LAME!”

I lauged so hard at the staring competition

Just saw the teaser lets just says some things are better left untouched by that i mean the original was great and i think this one is gonna suck it sad when bad sequels spoil a good movie but who knows it might be a good movie… :unamused:

I’ve noticed that there are so many different opinions on this trailer. People either love it or hate it.

EJE, I’ve noticed that you tend to be a very polite, open minded person. And I have a question for you, because I believe you’ll treat it fairly.

Did the end of the original leave you hungry for more? I felt empty. I mean, I loved the movie so much. Others say it’s not as “good”, and I agree, but I enjoyed it as much as Wall-E. At the end, I felt it was perfect, until the end. It was a cute, funny little joke, but I felt the movie deserved more than, “Wanna get something to eat?”
“Yeah.” I felt like they were implying a sequel, because I wanted a more meaningful, profound ending.
