Mars Needs Moms

I’ll admit it doesn’t look good but I might give it a shot. I mean let’s face it Megamind, HTTYD, TS3 trailers were not exactly fantastic in my view (yes I wasn’t sure on the TS3 trailer) but they were good movies overall.

I am also going to give Cars 2 a chance even though I’m unsure of certain aspects of it.

I hear Gnomeo and Juliet- while not a masterpiece is actually quite charming despite everything so I’m actually looking forward to it when I see it despite not caring for the trailers all that much. I haven’t seen Despicable Me but then I heard its good, so I’m thinking of getting the DVD to tide me over until Megamind comes to the UK on DVD. And I didn’t care for the first few trailers THERE either.

I don’t know what the heck has been going on lately but it seems as if we’re getting a fill of terrible trailers with movies which are good and at the very least exceedingly fun. Still that’s certainly better than the OTHER way around eh?

I can’t say the animation is good at all to me and I won’t go out of my way to see it or be desperate to see it, but I might give it a try, though I’ll admit it doesn’t look that good to me and I remain skeptical.

M’excuse, mais je ne comprends pas.

tdit, je vous ai envoyé un PM…peut-être vous avez le vu?

Curiouser and curiouser…Seth Green’s name is conspicuously absent from Disney’s promotional site for Mars Needs Moms. Was there a falling out? Maybe a re-do based on test-audience reaction? Such late-in-the-game changes don’t bode well for any movie. Still not too interested in MNM, but here’s hoping it rises above any unusual challenges before its release.

I agree with that. Right there.

Steve and TDIT, pardon my not knowing French, but what did you just say? :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Sorry, IV! It went like this:

“Excuse me, but I don’t understand.”
“I sent you a PM…maybe you already saw it?”

More on Seth Green and Mars Needs Moms…

Although Box Office Mojo still (as of today) lists Seth Green as the movie’s star, and although he’s clearly in the production stills shown at BOM, this photo is a puzzler:

boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=m … dsmoms.htm

That doesn’t look like Seth Green, and maybe it’s not supposed to be. But the photo is sandwiched between shots of Dan Fogler and Elisabeth Harnois, two of the other stars…it’s just a mystery! No articles found online describe Green’s estrangement from the project. Mars needs a little Green man!

Ah, okay. We’ve been having an unusually large number of trolls lately. And nicer members acting like trolls, too. I’m over it.

Anyway, I’ll just wait and see how people react to this movie.

I’ll be happy if Seth Green isn’t voicing the kid. That is just about the worst possible casting decision for a 10 year old…except maybe an 80 year old man.

I don’t think I’ll be able to give this one a chance :open_mouth: The animation as a whole just freaks me out. It’s so realistic, but not quite there. I know there’s a name for that, but it’s escaping my mind  Just like A Christmas Carol and The Polar Express kind of freaked me out (but I enjoyed the Polar Express and got past it ) Probably when it’s on DVD

It wouldn’t be a surprise if it turned out that test audiences agreed with you, Bryko. No other instances come to mind of a star being yanked (or walking away) from a film so late in the game. Also a bit unsettling is the scene where the girlish Elisabeth Harnois character enjoys Gribble’s blush–presumably because of his attraction to her. It could be that the movie is fundamentally fuzzy in how it balances adult and youth sensibilities.

Evangeline: That’s motion capture, which is debatably not true animation. Robert Zemeckis and ImageMovers Digital had a hand in all the movies in your post. In one of the Pixar films, (Ratatouille, I think) there’s a pointed comment about motion capture in the credits.

^ No way! I didn’t know it wasn’t really animation. That’s so confuzzling. I’m gonna go Google it right now. That’s so weird!

Well, it’s a debatable point. Lots of folks refer to motion-capture films as “animated.” Personally, it comes off as the modern counterpart of rotoscoping. Either way, it gives off that “uncanny valley” vibe, aka the heebie-jeebies.

You’ve got that right! It freaks me out. shudder Just looking at it makes me feel like there’s something wrong.

I saw the trailer, and my honest reaction is, “Why didn’t they just do this in live action?” I think I’m really not a fan of the “mo-cap look.”

No one is a fan of the Mo-cap look. Except for Robert Zemeckis.

That seems to be the general consensus  Well, I am glad that a lot of you are keeping an open mind about the movie…because how many times have you been pleasantly surprised (or conversely, been disappointed)? Everyone seemed to really like Tangled and our initial trailers didn’t impress too much, right? That being said, I think this movie does appeal to a certain demographic (moms and their kids) rather than wider appeal. But hopefully, if any of you have a chance to see it, you’ll give me some good feedback

DisneyMovies: Unimpressive Tangled trailers? Never knew that–they always looked good from this end. Any chance you’ve seen an early screening of Mars Needs Moms? Open mind here that could be swayed by a strong, positive opinion. Also, do you happen to know anything about the decision to replace Seth Green’s voice work? Thanks in advance!

This is completely off topic, use the search function next time to find appropriate topics.

No one will be surprised by this film, unless they think it is going to be good. The movie will be awful. I’m a kid. I have a mom. I love that mom like no one else, but that isn’t going to make me love this movie. Looking at the trailer makes me want to puke, and I can’t imagine my mom ever sitting through this movie. That’s all there is to it.

I was very unimpressed with the Tangled trailers, and I wasn’t the only one! I saw the movie anyway, and it was opposite from what I expected, I loved it!
