(if it already exist a thread about this man, please give me a link or something)
Michael Giacchino is my favorite composer and I love his work so much! Especially the Pixar-related stuff, where I believe he’s made his best work (yet).
My love for his music was first discovered when I heard The Incredibles soundtrack! It was amazing, I love the touch of old-school orchestra music it gave, and all the big-band/jazz inspiration just gave the movie that bit of extra that just lifted the entire movie!
Haha that was plenty of favorites, but I mean all of the songs really stand on there own and one can love them just by listening to them, but at the same time they don’t stand out in the movie, they just blend in, and that is what a good score is suppose to do I believe.
In the Ratatouille soundtrack I believe Michael got to be so creative because he had such wonderful characters to work around, this score was so beautiful and gave such enjoyment! And yet again the score stands up on its own, but fits so well in the movie.
I believe Michael to be such a nice and funny person and a wonderful composer and I hope to meet him one day! So here I’ve been rambling on how much I appreciate the music from this man and I also appreciate those of you who managed to read through all of this, haha. Well what are your thoughts on him? Favorite scores, favorite songs?
I also just have to add how excited I am over Up, and it’s score, from what I’ve heard so far from the latest trailer it sounds amazing, and I can’t wait to hear more!
I checked and there is no thread of this great man, none that I saw after skimming through the topics.
Anyways, Mr. Giacchino is by far my most favorite composer in the whole world. I loved his work with the Incredibles soundtrack. His creation of the heroic jazz mixed with the James Bond spy movie music is absolute genious. I personally loved every track in the movie.
Yeah I decided I can’t pick favorites neither The Star Swordsman haha! Both of the scores are just so great! And I agree with you, all the inspiration he took in just created such wonderful pieces!
His work is just brilliant, and he will continue to bring excellent music to Pixar. Still, my favortie still is (and probably will always be unless there is a sequel) the Incredibles soundtrack.
Michael Giacchino is a musical genius! He does amazing work. Although I enjoy all of his work, I’d have to say that my favorite so far is the Incredibles soundtrack. The incorporation of jazz was wonderful. I’m looking forward to his future work.
Michael Giacchino has a great grasp on the use of different moods and styles in music. Has anyone here heard his Cloverfield ‘Roar’ Overture? It captures the ‘monster-movie style’ perfectly. In fact, he won for the above mentioned piece at this year’s IMFCA awards. filmmusiccritics.org/
The Incredibles was a great example of his take on the ‘Superhero style’, and Ratatouille had exactly the right feel to it. A lot of his music does have a sort of jazzy feel to it, and especially in The Incredibles, he used time signatures that are less common, such as 5/4, and 9/8.
I like to play Michael Giacchino’s music on the piano. If you’re interested, there is sheet music available to buy of both his ‘Incredibles’, and Ratatouille scores, arranged for piano.
Hey guys if you haven’t checked out the Upcoming Pixar blog the official website for Up has been Updated! And the intro features now a part of the score to the movie.
I’ve listened to it three times and I’m in love. It sounds very epic and powerful, I love it! It’s both epic but at the same time it’s really fun and happy!
I think I can safely say that - Michael Giacchino has done it again!
Michael Giacchino is one of my fav composers because his scores are so layered. I’ve liked the The Incredibles soundtrack for about 2 years now, and I’m still not even tired of it.
Now, here’s a photo of Mikey G. that my sister’s been bugging me to post here. It’s from his high school prom. His prom date posted it on Facebook. Heheh.
I love Mr G’s work from the Ratatouille soundtrack, “Wall Rat” and “Remy Drives A Linguini” are the first two tracks that come to mind. I tried learning “Wall Rat” on the piano but man, was the score hard (too many key signatures and full of semiquavers, as you can imagine )!
I didn’t know he did The Incredibles and Medal of Honour prior to joining this site, so now I’m real interested to find out other soundtracks the man did!
Good to hear you like the website soundtrack, Simon-Simon (welcome to the boards by the way! ). Too bad I can’t give a listen right now cos’ my bandwidth limit’s busted (but it’ll be renewed tomorrow! Hurray!).
Man, that’s one, uh… interesting photo, Rachel! I wonder who his date was? He looked like he came from an emo rock band or something (Was that too cruel? I hope that wasn’t too insulting. I like his bow-tie. It’s nice. And red.)
FYI, Michael is also behind the score behind the TV show ALIAS.
“Colette Shows Him Le Ropes”, “Remy Drives a Linguini”, and “Le Festin” are just awwwwesome in the Ratatouille soundtrack.
And “Life’s Incredible Again” on the Incredibles soundtrack stands out to me too.
He’s a guy that can create music for anything you can chuck at him. Would wonder what he’d make if he did the Wall-E soundtrack (although Thomas Newman did an excellent job though).
Rachel - The 80s were awesome! Wish I grew up then…
Phileas - Thanks for the info on his work on Alias. I love those tracks from Rat too. I’ll have to see if they still sell the Incredible soundtrack…
Simon-Simon - You’re welcome! If you were referring to my sig, allow me to direct you to my fan video thread. Look out for April 2nd!
You know, I just browsed the upcoming Star Trek official website and I saw Mr G in the synopsis as being credited for the film’s score! If anyone watched Trailer 3 under the Videos link, I really hope that trailer music is from the soundtrack and not from an independent trailer music production house (they exist, you know, like Immediate Music and X-Ray Dog). If that was Mr G’s music… ooh! One more reason “to boldly go where no man has gone before”!
Although he’s not my favourite composer of all time, Michael Giacchino is clearly very talented. I love the soundtrack of The Incredibles, as it couldn’t be more suitable for a film like that, the soundtrack he composed for Ratatouille brought Paris to life. He really creates an atmosphere with his music.
Hey boys and girls, have you gotten around to listen to the new clip featuring Kevin? We can in this clip hear Michael’s music very clearly, at least in the second half of the clip, and I gotta say I LOVE IT! It will might be called “Kevin’s Theme” or something like that, cuz’ it fits Kevin I think. It’s so great and I’ve listened to it over and over again!
When do you guys think the score will be released? I mean a movies soundtrack usually gets released like a week or so before the movie, I know WALL-Es soundtrack did! Do we know yet a date or anything?
I am so thrilled to hear that Michael is composing for Up. I was very impressed with his talents on The Incredibles an Ratatouille. And I was hoping he would win an Oscar for his score on one of those films. But just happens that he composed the music for the Oscars this year! That’s quite awesome if you ask me.
I have a good feeling that he will be composing scores for the upcoming Pixar films. What do you think?
Oh I hope so! I mean I believe his best works is from these two Pixar films he has done! So I hope he keeps making incredible music for incredible movies like Pixars.
