I finally got my hands on the Up-soundtrack (as a figure of speech since it’s no physical CD, thank you so much Disney!) and I it is so beautiful, I was afraid that my high expectations would disappoint me when I listened to it, sure it’s not as great as The Incredibles soundtrack, but it sure will become one of my favorite works of his.
“Up With Titles” I love this song it’s so much fun and so retro but still very believable, and fun thing is my parents LOVE this song they go around dancing when I play it. And as many of you said “Married Life” is so beautiful and still very sad, have not seen the movie yet but I can imagine the scene starts of great and then becomes sad in the end, because you’ll notice that change in the track.
One of my favorite songs from the soundtrack is “Kevin Beak’n” I just LOVE it to death, haha it’s so much fun and the rhythm, the instruments, the timing, it is all so perfect and you can’t help but start to smile when you listen to it cuz’ it’s so much fun, also I love the first part of “Giving Muntz the Bird” as “Kevin Beak’n” it is also so fast and fun.
All in all, a great soundtrack with tracks that will take you on a journey, and a complete soundtrack that (I’m sure) lifts the movie Up (hint), but also stands strong on it’s own feet.
I signed the petition for the Up CD, I would really love a physical copy, what were they thinking?
Anyway, Mike did a fantastic job with the Up score. Married Life tears me up every time I hear it (as well as [spoil] Stuff We Did, SO POWERFUL, brilliant piano work[/spoil] ) it’s a gorgeous track. Everything else is beautiful, fun, or spontaneous, it’s really great. I hum some of the songs to Up while I watch it. I’ve never really paid attention to a movie soundtrack before, it really adds an extra level of emotion into the movie.
I did The Incredibles in marching band my junior year, and that was some fantastic music. I really miss marching band (I play trumpet), and I’m actually thinking about asking some band directors if they would do Up’s soundtrack for concert band, I haven’t played for a while (there are a few tracks that could be done for marching, but I think it’s more suited for concert band, plus my college only has concert, jazz, and pep bands, no marching )
I haven’t really heard much else of Mike besides One Man Band, but what I have heard makes him one of my favorite composers. He’s a really gifted guy.
o rly? That woulda been fun. What tracks did you play? I think “Marital Rescue” would be well suited to playing in a marching band. By the by, anyone know the time signature(s) used for that track. I think the first part is 4/4 but the rest… not sure. For some reason that has been bugging me for a long time.
As for Michael Giacchino I want to marry him his music.
Hehe, yeah. Crud, I don’t remember the names of all the songs,… I know we did the main theme, Saving Metroville, the Incredits, the swing-like one during the montage, (I think it’s Life’s Incredible Again), and have no idea what the last one is. That was the first year in 35 years that my school had a different band director, and the first one was TERRIBLE. The new one was the best thing to happen to my city’s music program. We won 3 awards for our show that year I think. Miss marching.
ffdude - You can’t go wrong with playing Mr G’s scores.
Rachel - That made me imagine you in an Italian gondola with his scoresheets for your honeymoon.
Anyhoo, I watched Land of the Lost about a fortnight ago, and I must say Mr G has done the usual triumphant-super-awesome music appropriately again. Although it’s rather low-key compared to Star Trek, I can’t remember any particular scene… the one at the climax where [spoil]Mr Ferrell faces off against the T-rex[/spoil] was probably the most memorable… I’ll have to give the soundtrack listing a look…
Phileas, yeah, it was the theme of the show, so everyone knew it was from The Incredibles. We got some sweet marching t-shirts, and playing the score was really fun. There was a trumpet solo I wanted to play (and could have, but I was the only audible 2nd trumpet ) but alas, no fun for me. Oh well.
I want to go to your school! We were going to play Down to Earth this year, but our band director couldn’t get the copyrights from Disney or Peter Gabriel.
And you got to play Giacchino’s score.
So I envy you quite much.
My friend also plays the trumpet and can understand your pain about being the only audible one. She’s usually first then placed on second or third because the freshmen and sophomores usually suck/can’t play loud.
Yup. I haven’t really heard what he’s done outside of Pixar, besides MI, but he’s really a great composer. The greatest thing about his work is it’s so broad. He doesn’t have a particular set style, and his scores are really diverse from one another. It’s hard to find that in an artist.
