This is pretty surprising news. I remember spending my whole Disney childhood wondering when Mickey would have his own feature film, though technically he has if these two count:
I can’t say 100% how true this is, but I believe I got to see that short Runaway Brain in theaters and for some reason I seem to have a memory of hearing that it may have been a feature film idea (like the short was some kind of test to see how audiences would respond to it). I don’t really know how true that is though.
While we’re at it, I wonder how it’s story would compare to A Goofy Movie (minus the 90’s feeling that film had). It sounds like they’re only starting to suggest the idea though, so we may still have to see if it goes anywhere.
I wouldn’t quite say it’s in the works. The article doesn’t say it’s been green lighted yet. But this is very interesting, I wonder where they’d go with it.

Yeah. At the same time though, knowing it may not be the official word is keeping me from imagining too much, I don’t wanna get my hopes up.

As long as this is not based on the Wii game Epic Mickey, I’m okay with this. But seriously, can they have the voices sound right? Winnie the Pooh has terrible voice actor replacements for many of the characters…I don’t want Donald Duck to sound like Bruno from Popeye…

Muppets and Winnie the Pooh are coming back onto the big screen and now so is Mickey? Come to think of it, Disney Canon has recently been going back to classic Disney charm with 2D animation, fairy tales (though now they’ve stopped doing that…), Winnie the Pooh and now Mickey Mouse. It’s good and Disney is doing a nice thing with it’s animated films. Plus Mickey is coming back and may be respected by the young Disney Channel crowd. Though to be fair, I was part of that crowd say, a year ago…
It think if they made Mickey the smart, capable bada** we know and love from the older cartoons, Kingdom Hearts, and Epic Mickey, he will translate very well to the current crowd, especially if they weren’t expecting him to be that way. Why do you think KH fans love King Mickey so much? He surprised them! 
I do not know this “King Mickey.” When I played Kingdom Hearts, I got pass the first boss and heart Maleficent, Hades, and Jafar talking…but I can’t get anywhere beyond that. And when I started a new game, I couldn’t even get past the first boss again.
King Mickey only had a very, VERY short cameo at the end of the first game, but in the second game, he really gets to shine. He’s basically a mixture of Jesus (constant association with the light, can walk through the realm of darkness completely unaltered, can use a weapon FROM the realm of darkness completely unaltered and use it for good, spews out all the wise, mystic-y lines, and redeems about 3 characters from the dark side if not more. Oh, and can bring you back to life if you die in certain boss battles with one spell.) and Yoda (totally awesome keyblade skills)
Oh boy! I love mickey mouse. My very first favorite Disney character. I can’t wait to see it.
