You can do that or you can visit WDW for Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor at the Magic Kingdom. That’s the closest thing we have to a sequel… so far.
Let’s not forget the upcoming roller coaster!!!
Wait there’s a roller coaster? In which park?
It’s not out yet, planned for release at Disney Hollywood Studios (Florida) sometime between mid 2011 - 2012…
I’m pretty sure the Monsters Inc. ride Pete Docter mentioned will only be at Walt Disney World, since Disneyland Resort already has a Monsters Inc. Ride… But then again, Walt Disney World already has a Monsters Inc. attraction as well… I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Word has it, though, for Walt Disney World, a Monsters Inc. ride will be in Disney’s Hollywood Studios park in the Pixar Studios land (Toy Story Mania is currently the only ride in that land, but rumors is that there will be Monsters Inc. and Cars there in the future).
Wow, yeah I looked it up and it’s going to be based on the door sequence near the end <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/grinandwink.gif” alt=“;-D” title="Grin and
Wink" /> I just hope that it’s more of a space mountain than a barnstormer…
My guess is they would make it an E-Ticket ride, like your Space Mountain’s, and Indiana Jones Adventure’s, and Splash Mountain’s… But I guess time will only tell.
I have to say, unlike most of you here, I’m a sequel addict! I really don’t care if it’s good or not, as long as the story continues ( which does not apply to pixar because they have proved that they can make a really good sequel that lives up to it’s predecessor) Anyways, I would absolutely love a sequel to any of the films pixar has made, excluding a Bug’s Life which is the only pixar film I never really got into. Which is the exact reason I would love to see the world of Monstropilos come back to the screen in 2013! Plus, the delay of the Blu-ray just makes think that this is actually in the works!
I would want to watch it just for Boo. Ooooooh, ooooh, ooooohhh!!! Boo… grown up! I would love to see that!
… but the creative brains trust at Pixar will have to start working out a good sequel. Hopefully they don’t pull off a greed trick here and make a sequel just for the financial benefits.
There’s already a mountain of ideas, one in particular, fans have been constructing. Ran’s return for starters. Wazowski and Celia’s life together (are they are married, did they a kid(s)). Sullivan’s life as CEO, lets be honest he was NOT a CEO guy. Mary now older, with knowledge of the Monster World. What became of Waternoose. Was there something else behind the scenes?
Just a whole gaggle of stuff. I’m surprised they haven’t thought of ideas soner.
holds up hands Then again, with the rumors and all and that search thing, they probably DO have the ideas, but have a dedication to make their “next few years line up”
scratches chin With the economy how it is, I’m just guessing Pixar isn’t suffering too much in terms of cash…unlike Disney. (When you think about it, Pixar has drastically less in terms of out-put money than Disney has. What I mean is Disney has their films, parks, celebrities, bands, etc.)
Interesting on how that would work out. Wonder how the kids will look - Mike’s one eye with Celia’s snake hair? No, that’s pretty bad.
Over the past few years, John Lasseter and company, have openly offered up their reluctance to produce sequels to some of their biggest hits.
However, after putting ‘Toy story 3’ into production, (screenplay by a Hollywood writer), the idea of sequels may be back in play. Let’s face it, they have created characters that are revered by people all over the planet…and to not see these characters again in new stories, seems almost sacrilegious. Imagine, a world without Jesse or Stinky Pete…even Al! Yes, they have to explore new ideas and produce new great films…but, in my opinion they have the ability to do both, without compromise.
For example, when Disney’s “Circle Seven Studios” were working on ‘Toy Story 3’, ‘Finding Nemo 2’ and ‘Monsters, Inc. 2’, (before the purchase of Pixar), they were rumored to have an amazing, near “shooting draft”, of ‘Monsters, Inc. 2’. But, after the buyout, all of the projects were shelved, as to not interfere with the “smooth transition” of the Pixar purchase.
I’ve had the good fortune of reading part of the ‘Monsters, Inc.’ sequel…and I must say, it’s amazing, seriously. I might add, I’m not alone in my high praise of the script. Shortly before the project was shut down, it was slipped to a few “high profile” feature animation directors…I’ve seen their “coverage” and it borders on ecstatic. Granted, the writer of ‘Monsters, Inc 2’, had an amazing launching-off point for the script, (the original film), but that’s the point! Disney caught lighting in a bottle…yet, there it sits, flashing brightly as if to say…“make me”!
Some may recall that ‘Toy Story 2’ came from a script written for a direct-to-DVD release, (by non Pixar screenwriters). But, once Pixar began production, it became clear the project was surpassing everyone’s expectations…thankfully, it was upgraded to a full theatrical, feature film. ‘Toy Story 2’ is now considered by many to be even better than the original, (a debate for another day). The path of TS2 was not traditional, yet, it was still able to fulfill its destiny, as a classic motion picture.
Don’t you think it would be nice to side-step the “politics” of the business…and let the ‘Monsters, Inc. 2’ screenplay speak for itself? Can you imagine what the geniuses at Pixar could do with a project like this? Billy Crystal is quoted as saying, “I really hope they make a sequel, I love Mike Wazowski”.
Well… A quote from Bob Iger has shaken my interpretation and ideas of weither a sequel will emerge now… On any Movie…
read this and intrepret… Source is the UK’s Guardian Newspaper
Disney chief executive, Robert A Iger, said the company was focused on delivering “great films”, rather than adopting a blind adherence to commercial pressures. “If a great film gives birth to a franchise, we are the first company to leverage such success,” he said. “A check-the-boxes approach to creativity is more likely to result in blandness and failure.”

With the Excepetion of Firing a Bullet straight into the Heart of Dreamworks… I’d say that… It could be possible… but Igers staunch words may prevent it… but then Lasseter might just turn the Ignition on and the movie will start rolling… Who knows maybe a little bit of RicRolling can aide the process along!
Bobbydafan- You’ve actually read some of it? And it’s really that good? Because as much as I love the world of Monsters, Inc., I just can’t see the sequel being as good as the original, and if a sequel isn’t as good as the original, then I think it’s failed.
And welcome to the boards!
Read some of the script eh? Perhaps you’d enlighten us a bit of how it goes. Afterall, not like there haven’t been spoilers on Pixar Planet before (Ex: the whole plot of UP).
Thanks for the nice welcome! Yes, I’ve read it! It’s a terrific script. They really nailed the characters and the story. I can’t imagine a better animated sequel, (short of TS2). It’s pretty much known within the animation community that this script exists, (it was sent to some directors who praised it as “one of the best animated scripts they had ever read”). So, it’s really just up to the creators of the film, whether or not they want to start from scratch…or run with this script. BTW - Bob Iger is well aware of the script…he was involved in its development when he first took over at Disney…before the buyout of course.
Is it as good as the original…I’d say no, but, VERY close…and really, it’s like choosing between your children. This script is funny, heartfelt, with a very rewarding ending, and they stayed very true to all the great characters we loved in the original, In my opinion, it’s a “can’t miss” classic.
How’d you get a hold of the scripct?
I mentioned that the script went out to a few select directors, just before the buyout. Well, I’m friends with one of those directors and he gave me a “sneak read” because he knew what a big fan I was/am of the original. Plus, he was pretty blown away by it and wanted to know if he was crazy or not…he wasn’t.
A friend of which director?
Is there any possibility of you filling us in on some of the details, or do you feel that there is actually a chance that this particular script IS being made into a sequel, and that you will be giving away too much by telling us what it entailed? When you say it “stayed true to all the great characters we loved in the original”, just which characters would this be, just Mike and Sulley, or all of them? My curiosity is burning up, now that I’ve heard that the sequel script was actually very good(although I’m sure you can figure out that MY notion of “very good” might not be the same as everyone else’s).
