Monsters Vs. Aliens

We’re getting the first legit trailer for Where the Wild Things Are with this odd DreamWorks release. That’s all that I’m happy about with the release of MVA. However, I will give them some credit for being original here. I see it as more of a B-movie satire.

Thanks for the update, TS2! Looking forward to the trailer of DreamWorks’ first book-to-animated film adaptation tomorrow (no one has commented on my serendipitous advanced preview?).

It’s not DreamWorks. It’s from Warner Bros., a live-action adaptation of WTWTA.

thedriveintheatre - Let us know what you think of the movie once you see it!

Would there be somewhere where we could read your review of it once it’s published?

The other day I got a stuffed B.O.B. at Blockbuster. I didn’t want DreamWorks to get my money but then I saw that it was only $1.00. DreamWorks ripped me off with false advertising! The stuffed B.O.B. cost $6.00! That is the last time I’m buying DreamWorks merchandise. :imp:

TS2 - My bad. I’ll keep that in mind. :stuck_out_tongue:

C-3PO - Thanks for your interest! Yeah, I just watched it yesterday, and I would have to say it’s above average. High on action, low on plot. Typical DreamWorks. Better than Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and certainly the abysmal Shrek the Third, but not as great as Kung Fu Panda. I’m writing the review now, and I’ll see if I can get a scan of the publication once it goes to press.

TAMATER - Why the heck would the price tag read a buck and they charge you six quids? That’s customer deception! :open_mouth: You should write a complaint to the Customers’ Association Bureau Thingamajig or something and bring DreamWorks to justice!

thedriveintheatre: you’d better.

That would be an issue with Blockbuster and not DreamWorks.

thedriveintheatre - Did you see it in 3D? If so, how did you find it?

Also, for anyone wondering about the ‘Art of’ book review I had mentioned earlier, we will be putting it up - [hopefully] - on Thursday, along with an interview with the author, Linda Sunshine. If it’s alright, I’ll post a link to it in this thread. Otherwise, as always, our web address is in our profile.

EVE,
One Movie, Five Views.

I know I caused all that commotion about the B.O.B. plush toy, but… it turned out the plush toy was only $1.00 if you buy a DreamWorks movie. So I guess it was my fault.

The worst movie ever comes out today.

Tom Charity: “Another bloated, over-produced, high-concept monstrosity has escaped from the labs at DreamWorks Animation… A toothless satire with… a sorry excuse for a plot.”

In the Washington Post, they talked about how DreamWorks was the first studio to release all their future movies in 3D! What about Pixar?

bryko: Why so serious? I wouldn’t say it’s that horrible, it certainly is better than the mediocre Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa or the extremely crappy Shrek the Third, but it’s no Kung Fu Panda.

Its action sequences are way more stunning and jaw-dropping in 3-D than Bolt, but they never seem to mature beyond the cheap toilet gags and adult double-entredres. And therein lies DreamWork’s shortcoming as an animation powerhouse. The set-pieces are on the most massive scale imaginable, but there’s that extra-something is missing from it, unlike Pixar’s warmth and attention to detail in their settings (just compare the details of the skyscrapers in WALL-E to the drab-looking templates in MVA).

I’ll post my thoughts from the movie from time to time as I try to recollect it. That’s the thing about DreamWorks movies. They’re a blast to watch, but afterwards you can’t remember a thing. I’ve completed my school mag review and submitted it to the editorial team. Fingers crossed they’ll accept it for publication!

woody: As far as I know, their latest upcoming releases will be in Digital 3-D (Up, Toy Story and Toy Story 2 re-release, and Toy Story 3).

Monsters Vs. Aliens isn’t even in the top ten grossing films this weekend! You know what that means? No sequel!

It just came out. Everyone’s at work/school.

If you haven’t seen it, then you can’t exactly call it the worst…

Besides, that may be one opinion, but there is also this: A highly competent, smartly engineered delivery system for the very clichés it pretends to subvert. - A.O. Scott, New York Times.

Really? Somewhere I thought I heard all future Pixar movies were in 3D.

Our ‘art of’ book reviews are now up if anyone’s interested. Also, further down the page, there is an interview with the author of the book, Linda Sunshine. The link to our website is in our profile.

EVE,
One Movie, Five Views.

Here is my review.

I thought that the movie was more silly than funny. Most of it was just stupid funny, fart-joke funny, and annoyingly funny. Most of it was pretty predictable and the dialogue seems kinda cheap than witty. If there is one aspect that hits a bullseye, it is the acting. The cast was full of talented actors who not only portrayed the characters well, but made the story engaging. Overall, if you are looking for an enjoyable movie with plenty of laughs, go and see it.

Here’s my review in one word: uninspired.

The 3D technology might be amazing, but if you see it in 2D like I did - meh.

I enjoyed myself much more at Kung Fu Panda and even gasp Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

Maybe the experience is much different in 3D, which is a shame because it tells me they paid more attention to the technology here than they did to the story.
