Most overrated films of all time

Hahaha! I would quote your comment too because I feel the same about that too! The Fame had many good songs and then The Fame Monster had a few good songs and now I’m not so sure. This is all in my opinion btw! LOL, how did we get from most overrated films to Lady Gaga? 8D

Because love or hate her, she is interesting, and easy to discuss. 8D

I still think Grease is conformist trash, regardless of who likes it. Actually, I only know one girl who really loves it, but overall I think it gets too much attention.

Okay, now when people start talking about one of my favorite musicals, that is when I start to unleash.

First off, Grease is the ORIGINAL High School Musical. Grease takes us back to the rebelous 50s. Where rock and roll was starting to be popular. Grease is one of those musicals where people can relate to because most adults were in high school once. They know what the drama is like there.

ANd the music. THe music in Grease is fabulous. It’s got that swing of rock and roll but with something people can remember.

(I can go on, but I love defending the musicals, especially the ones I grew up with and ones that I’ve been in)

I’ve never seen it, but I really want to, regardless of what anyone else says of it. I love the 50’s for all the reasons TSS has mentioned, especially the growing rock movement, rebellious teenagers, etc. Not sure how many people actually enjoyed it at the time, but it’s still interesting to me :stuck_out_tongue:

On the subject of Gaga, I’ve never hated her, I just don’t especially love her music. I enjoy it to a certain extent, and I think she is actually quite good at what she does. I’d go as far as to say she’s the best contemporary mainstream pop singer today. (I like MIKA much more, but he isn’t mainstream, and flat-out refuses to be. Another reason why I respect him.)

Personally, I think Grease is one of the top musical movies of all time.

I don’t really like Grease but I’m going to have to agree with that. It’s probably the only musical I can actually moderatley stand to watch, I’m not a musical kind of person.

I said it was a conformist piece of trash. The fact that it has quality songs does not change that view. And I would appreciate it if you would stop being so volatile all the time.

plus an easy comparison to HSM would alienate most people.

con·form·ist
/kənˈfɔrmɪst/ Show Spelled[kuhn-fawr-mist] Show IPA
–noun
1.
a person who conforms, especially unquestioningly, to the usual practices or standards of a group, society, etc.
2.
( often initial capital letter ) a person who conforms to the usages of an established church, especially the Church of England.

Where does this say bad songs  Stop worshipping your own opinion, and good songs does not make a good movie.

Were you talking to me? What do you mean volatile?

No, not you Miss Carrera! 8D You’re awesome. And by volatile, I mean he blows up whenever someone says something against a movie he likes.

Oh thank goodness! I seriously thought that comment was towards me and I was gonna get really upset! Hahaha, ok good. You are quite awesome yourself Virginia, and I learned a new word today! :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, good. Volatile in general means very easy to anger; I just used it in that way there.

LOL yeah after you said it I Googled it and got a bunch of stuff about volcanos spewing and was like “huh?!”

8D Well, that’s just it. It means that, but we refer it as people blowing up.

Anyway, I think every Disney Channel movie made since like 2003 is completely over rated.

I think the Jonas Brothers are overrated. o_0

The movie, or the people? I think everything of theirs is over rated.

Exactly…both. :unamused:

Grease isn’t my favorite movie, by far. I’m not a huge fan, but I do think that it’s one of those movies that every one should see. Regardless of how one feels about it, it is a pretty famous film in our culture, and even internationally. It’s one of those movies to defintely give a try!

Virginia: I agree with you that Grease is overrated, but why do you think it’s ‘Conformist’? I just want you to elaborate more as to why.

Because Sandy conforms to the “cool cats”. She ceases to be herself just so she can have Danny. Conforming is acting like others to gain power or acceptance, and I think the main theme in Grease is just that. Fitting in. I agree, though, it is important to see it at least once. Especially if you want to work in Hollywood.
