Yeah, it wasn’t quite hard to read that. ![]()

Avatar is something I couldn’t even finish watching, its just the scripts of Ferngully and Pocahontas mashed together with Sci-fi stuff. It annoys me that people went to see this over seeing Princess and the frog(nice going Disney
).
Don’t worry, I went to see The Princess and the Frog back when it was in cinemas.
I even managed to drag my dad along, who wanted to see Avatar instead.
TOO BAD, DAD! ![]()
I think Twilight is kind of overrated. I watched it with my mom, and I didn’t think it was good. The characters didn’t have much personality. Bella always was sad and depressed it seemed.
I kind of already explained why I thought Shrek 2 was overrated. It’s definitly one of Dreamworks’ better films but it’s not a masterpiece.
I don’t think Twilight counts as overrated, cause everyone says it’s bad, so it’s rated quite lowly.

I see what you mean, but it’s overrated by all of the fans who are crazy about it.
That’s the idea of what fan films are supposed to be. Terrible films that only appeal to the fans of that specific thing.
A Serious Man.
But then again, I could be in this board all day talking about some of the Coen brothers’ very loved films that I find overrated.
I think that Avatar was an alright movie, I didn’t hate it. But I believe it deftinely was overrated. To me it wasn’t as good as everyone made it out to be.
The most overrated one was Avatar (James Cameron) It was so cliche. The 3D was pretty sucky, they had so much good opportunities for 3D use, but they didn’t do much 3D effects.
It was just “blah”.

I agree that the Twilight series could be considered overrated, especially since many of the kids in my school seem to do that. I might also say Hunger Games to some degree, but now that I think about it, I think there is only one person who made me think that. Sorry fans, haven’t seen it, but I bet I would still like it if I saw it!
As for Pixar, I definitely think Toy Story 3 is way overrated. Most of the reason it is thought of in such high regard is because it includes some amazing and well-established characters that came 11 to 15 years prior to that film. I don’t think it was the perfect ending to the trilogy. I actually thought it sort of ruined the series how it ended and I would have preferred the endings of 1 or 2 if I knew how 3 was gonna turn out. I don’t think it’s bad; it passes for good but is just a bit too random for such great characters.
For Disney, I might say The Lion King even though I really like it quite a bit. I think a few people just sort of act like it’s a little greater than it really is. Also, Beauty and the Beast; that film probably cracks me up way harder than it should instead of make me feel emotional. I like that one too, though. ![]()
Again, not saying anything’s bad, just maybe overrated in my opinion. Apologies to those who I might have offended. ![]()
EDIT: I’m looking at this again, and I’m feeling bad.
It may have sounded like I was bashing Toy Story 3 when really I don’t dislike it. It may just seem that way since it’s my least favorite Pixar film when the first two are my favorites. I actually do like it a lot. There were funny moments that made me laugh and it could be quite sweet at times, too. I still bought the DVD and then later the Blu-Ray 3D combo pack. I just wish that for a Toy Story film it could have been less sad and found a way to incorporate all of Andy’s old toys into the movie. Same goes for The Lion King as well as Beauty and the Beast. Both are great films, but I can’t seem to take them as seriously as everyone else for some reason. I find them more funny and comedic than groundbreaking, even though I can see what people are talking about. Sorry, I just had to clarify. ![]()
Wreck It Ralph Most overrated movie ever, everyone loves it but I thought it sucked, no offense to anyone who liked it. All the people who like it say “Oh you haven’t played any of the old games they reference!” But actually I have.
I kind of agree about Wreck-it Ralph, although I thought it was just okay rather than bad. Before I saw it I had heard two popular opinions:
1.It was a really good film that’s very funny and enjoyable.
2.It was disappointing because it stops being Ralph’s story part-way through and there isn’t as much game-hopping as one might expect. If you can’t stand Vanellope or the Sugar Rush world you’re not going to like this movie.
I had heard far more people say they liked it though, so I was kind of expecting it to be pretty good… and it was kind of boring instead. Whilst I disagree that it stops being Ralph’s story, Vanellope does kind of take over the film in the second half. And a lot of the jokes weren’t that funny, even to somebody who did get the references. I thought the movie had a lot of clever ideas about how a video game world would work though. But the story ended up being boring. The villain was only occassionally interesting [spoil]like in the flashback to when he was Turbo[/spoil].
I did like the scenes with Felix and Calhoun though. And I didn’t find Vanellope as annoying as some people did, although some of her jokes started to get on my nerves.
I like Toy Story 3 okay, but it is vastly over rated.
I don’t share similar sentiments as you guys about Wreck it Ralph. I found it to be refreshing, and clever. It contained the most pathos then any recent Disney film, IMO. (Not including Pixar films of course).
I think it’s a great re imagining of the Hero’s Journey, a modern revision, but with an archetypal appeal.
And even if I didn’t like it, I don’t think it’s overrated. It hasn’t done that well in the Awards circuit. It got good reviews, but not TS3 or Up reviews. So I don’t see too much basis for it being overrated, but that’s just me I suppose.
Well, when I called it overrated I meant more by people on the internet.* But I wouldn’t call it one of the ‘most overrated films of all time’ or anything (like the title of this thread). But it currently, to me, feels like a lot of people are hyping the movie up as better than it is. I’ve seen a lot of people say it deserved the Best Animated Feature oscar, but personally I felt that there were much better films nominated for it. It’s all a matter of personal opinion of course, but for me the film isn’t nearly as great as most people told me it was. Like I said, there were things in the movie that I thought were interesting, funny, and clever. It’s just that it ended up being kind of boring.
I do appreciate that Disney went outside its normal comfort zone.
*The film didn’t come out where I live until about three months after it had come out in the States, and in the meantime I saw a LOT of people gushing about it on their blogs and so on. Aside from a couple of people saying ‘I wish there had been more world hopping/ less Sarah Silverman’ it was mostly very positive. Maybe I should’ve avoided people’s opinions a bit more…
