Most overrated films of all time

You telling me you’ve not seen any of Cameron’s Terminators o.O ?

I’m sorry, but I like Avatar. And How to Train Your Dragon.
Now, I haven’t done any crack today, so I won’t defend Twilight, because it is crap. But I don’t see why everyone smacks on HtTYD and Avatar.

Shrek 3, nuff said. I can’t even saying the name of it without calling it “Shrek The Turd”, because that’s what it is!
And I don’t see why people hate on twilight all the time. It’s getting really annoying. (And yes, I’m a fan. I’ll be hiding under my bed now)

No, but I plan to. :sunglasses:

Why is everyone so mean to Avatar and Dragons? You guys are just mean. Avatar was too long. Alright already. Jease, will you people hold your fire, please? Some of us like good movies, even if they’re not (;gasp;) Pixar.

Sorry, but i have to say this, dont take it personally please, but every time the people posting on pixar planet dont agree a 100 porcent with you you think we re attaking you, or we re mean thats no true, we all have different opinnions thats all.

And we never said avatar or HTTD were bad,we just think they are overrated , thats all.

I did not enjoy Avatar.
simple as that.

Avatar: No I haven’t seen it, No I don’t want to. I don’t care how “techno” it is, or how “groundbreaking” it is, or even how “awesome” it is. End of story.
Twilight saga: Really? I have no interest in Vampires. Ok?
Titanic: I watched a chunk of this movie once, I don’t see anything that makes it so great compared to every other movies made.

Please don’t hurt me, these are my personal opinions, and if I have to defend them, I will.

Edward cullen is NOT a vampire, you have insulted every vampire in existence by calling the sparkling fools from twilight “vampires”

Well, when the book was written, It was intended that he was a vampire.

TWILIGHT…nuff said coughtwilight is the worst movie ive ever seen sitting trough it with my sister was like being brutally murdered and then being brought back to life and then being brutally beaten and left in an ally to rotcough

I agree a 100 porcent

I have no problem with vampires, werewolves and other mythological creatures being rewritten or taken from a different angle. After all MOST of them are actually their own mutations of former myths. People retell stories and then put their own spin on it all the time. There are people who moan about ‘fast zombies’ for instance such as those in 28 days later, saying they should be slow undead- when technically that myth resulted from the idea of people of shaman controlling mindless people (not the risen dead at all). In that regard the ‘undead’ zombies should also be regarded as ‘misrepresented’ forms of the monster.

I actually find the idea of vampires bursting into flames in sunlight to be quite silly, and prefer the idea of them simply being terribly ‘weakened’. Such as say they feel compoletely drained of energy for instance or something to that effect. Also that they could die if left out there for too long. There’s nothing wrong with putting your own spin on something of either re-using old ideas, using new ones, or smushing them together and somehow making them work though.

As such, Meyer should not be mocked or hung out to dry for simply representing vampires in a different way to what has been out out there originally.Multiple representations of various monsters can exist. Mythical monsters or beings have a lot of different representations.

Instead the vampires she produced should be mocked because the spin and new type of vampire she provided is laughable at best in of themselves. They’re not bad because they’re ‘new’ or different, they are bad because they are simply, well, bad. There are not enough costs to the whole idea of being one for instance, among other things. Self-control issues offers a point in their favour in terms of costs, but there needed to be more than that.

That and the fact Edward in showing what happens to the type of vampire HE is in the sunlight, really entered into Narm territory in what should have been a dramatic moment.

(Then again… sparkling is rather hard to make into something dramatic).

Also because for some reason stalking is seen as attractive in the book. (Purple prose aside, it wouldn’t be half as bad if someone had actually told Edward OFF for being so damn creepy, or that his behaviour wasn’t seen as appropriate- I can deal with characters behaving badly, as long as someone eventually calls them out on it in some form).

I agree. I personally think almost every commercial chick flick gets too much attention, but I’m biased, because I hate them.

When I hear Twilight being called a saga, I want to either kick somebody in the face, scream, or sit in a corner whimpering with my plush Conker. Twilight is a lot of things, but it’s not a saga! A saga is a tale of heroic exploits, and Twilight is only the single most overrated soppy ‘love’ story I’ve ever seen.

Kick me out and flame me half to death if you’re offended, but consider that there’s almost been murders thanks to that movie/book. :C

Im afraid i cant agree with you there Mentalguru, twilight SHOULD be mocked for turning vampires into tinkerbell.

Vampires burning in sunlight may be silly, but thats part of their charm, if you take their weakness to sunlight or blood thirst away they are not vampires anymore.

Theres no problem in making a new version of a myth but you always need to respect the original, and i cant think in anything more disrespectful to vampires than twilight.

                              ...................................................

And I agree with you a 100 porcent Badger!

NOT Avatar :stuck_out_tongue:

My personal one is 2001: A Space Odyssey. I get its historical importance, but there is a point where “cerebral” becomes “tedious” and the visuals become more sickening than groundbreaking.

Lilo and Stitch, too. None of the human characters were likable and the movie had some of the most cringeworthy dialogue I’d ever heard in a Disney film.

I agree. Does it deserve to go down in history for its brilliance? YES. Is it the greatest sci-fic movie ever? No.

The beginning with the primates was a genuinely compelling scene, but then it resorts to the tedious visual-show-off in the first-half. It could have worked out, but the director wanted to show off. Until the second-half that’s when it was compelling again.

I don’t think Avatar is overrated. People are praising the visuals, not the story, and that how it should be. Avatar, granted, did try.

And I’ve seen Dances With Wolves (I really recommend it!) and there should be no hostality toward the Avatar “rip-off”. The movie futuristic update was intentional on Cameron’s part and that’s what he wanted. The foreigner going “native” is now an unoriginal premise, but Avatar intended an Adaptation Distillation.

The problem? The protagonist of Avatar was downright unlikable. And unlike Dances With Wolves, the movie has little atmosphere.

I have to disagree, I think Avatar is probably the most overrated movie of all time.

Off of the top of my head, mine are basically ones that have already been mentioned, but for sometimes different reasons:

Avatar- I found the characters quite dull personally. However, I think that the visuals deseve the praise that they got.

HTTYD- This was an entertaining movie, but not as brilliant as people claimed it to be (for me, at least). I think I would have liked the film more had there been a bit less flying/ fighting sequences. I don’t mean cut loads out, just I think that a bit too much screentime was dedicated to action-y scenes.

Twilight- Although I think that the hatedom makes up for the over-ratedness. Twilight is in a weird place between being totally adored and completely despised. I don’t like the protagonist, Bella, she’s a complete brat. I read the first chapter of the book and she does nothing but complain! About three people try to befriend her on her first day in a new school, and all she does is belittle them! And she’s just so bland in the movie…

Uh, I can’t think of any others at the moment…
