Avatar certainly wasnât a bad movie, I just didnât find it as entertaining as my friends did. It sustained my interest, which is quite impressive considering the length of the movie. I think that, in my case at least, it just wasnât the kind of movie I could really love. I didnât really like the characters and some parts of the storyline.
I liked HtTYD a lot more than Avatar, and I think it is definately one of the best animated films in recent years. I just think that it is slightly overrated- it deserves praise, but I donât always agree with the amount of praise given. That said, I wouldnât argue about it if HtTYD won Best Animated (although I donât pay much attention to awards shows, it does annoy me when movies that arenât good win).
In the end, this is all just opinion. I think that these two films are good movies (well, Avatar was okay) but that they are sometimes given more praise than I would give them myself.
I understand what you mean, it does make a difference with how you feel about the characters. Like Jake and whatever her blue face was never really appealed to me. However I love Dances With Wolves (which is virtually the same story, only waaaay better) and I cared more about the characters in that movie and what happened to the Sioux tribe. I really didnât care what happened to the Naâvi really. Maybe because they donât really exist. But in Dances With Wolves case, it spoke more to me because the Sioux were real people.
q-o-p, I see what you mean. I was just really uncomfortable and disturbed with TS3 for so long, and HtTYD was so special to me. After that movie, I wanted to go out and hug people I hate. I wanted to see things differntly. It really impacted me, while TS3, while a good movie, was not very satisfying to me unti recently. I didnât say HtTYD was better than TS3, I just find it bafflingâand mildly personally offensiveâthat everyone here seems to think HtTYD is over rated. Itâs such a special movie; even PIXAR has only reached that peak 3-4 times(which is enough to be truly great anyway.)
I just thought that people here could be mor open-minded and accepting of good animation than that. Iâve lost a lot of respect for certain members here over this. PIXAR does not equal good, and good does not equal PIXAR. PIXAR has made more good fims and certainly more great films than Dream Works, but even the most ignorant, snobby of animation fans should give credit where it is due.
What you said is very true. Pixar does not equel the best, because opinions on aniamted films are what they are, opinions. But we all must keep in mind that this site is called Pixar Planet, so thereâs a higher ration of Pixar fans to Dreamworks fans. Just like if you go to the How to Drain Your Dragon Forums, since itâs a forum for just that, thereâll be more Dreamworks fans there than here.
i think how to train your dragon was awsome and im not scared to say on my list it tops some of my favorite pixar movies so yeah i give credit where it is do dreamworks isnt all bad only thing i hate them for is milking shrek dry the first 2 movies were good after that the series just became a bunch of crude jokes and some moments that were meant to be funny but ended up being awkward silence in the audience.
EJE, I know it is. But being on a Pixar forum is not a reason to trash any other movie. Especially one this good. Now I said good, not good to my taste. I truly believe HtTYD is a good movie.
I know, but you need to remember that thereâs a larger percentage of people with a more pro-Pixar opinion, and even some with biases.
I think HTTYD is a great movie, my third favorite animated one this year! (Which is saying a lot, there were a great bunch of animated films this year, even Yogi Bear had itâs moments (If you ignore the story and focus on the animation aspects of it)
Havent seen yogi bear yet the cg styles looks similar to scooby-doo like yogiâs face has alot of features scoobyâs did in the eyes and stuff i think the people who worked on the live action scooby movieâs are also did the yogi bear movie.
Youâre probably on to something there, both were animated by Warner Brothers.
You also should keep in mind that the originals of Yogi Bear and Scooby Doo were both done by Hanna-Barbera. Iâm not certain, but most likely a fewof the authors and artists from those shows in the 60s worked on both.
I like Dragons, I just feel that itâs slightly overrated. By which I mean that, comments that I read on the interenet about it prior to seeing it made it sound a bit better that I found it to be. Itâs a very gpod movie, but I personally felt that it got a tiny bit more praise than I felt was neccesary.
Okay. So in my opinion, TS3 IS a little bit overrated, but itâs also my favourite animated movie. Same with How to train your dragon, it is a great movie my second favourite I think. But also a bit overrated.(I believe someone already said this) Just because itâs overrated doesnât mean itâs bad! TWILIGHT and AVATAR too is overrated. But I really liked Avatar⊠Unlike most of my friends. I get kinda depressed when people say mean things about movies I like. There was a time when I didnât even want to hang around a forum just because someone kept saying that a specific movie I liked wasnât good, it was bad" And âbla bla BLAAAH, bla⊠bla.â. And of course I respect everyones opinion, but you donât have to repeat it like that, you know⊠I donât like hearing you donât like it over and over. No this isnât directed towards anyone here.
i know this is off topic but i was watching spirit the dreamworks movie havent saw it in a while and i saw the dvd in my closet watched it and its one of my favorite dreamworks movie cause its not a movie they butcher by trying to squeeze in a bunch of crude jokes.
