I love sports movies. Most recently, I saw Hurricane Season. I loved it.
My folks are watching Secretariat on the iTV right now!
I forgot I also saw The Blues Brothers:
Some parts are very funny, it has lots of incredible car chases, an awesome selection of blues tracks, and Ray Charles…who’s so awesome he doesn’t need an explanation. I can easily see why this is a classic. However, I found it incredibly long and full of scenes that don’t make sense until you’ve finished the movie. I didn’t mind the music, but non-fans of blues would be bored out of their minds. Still, the comedic genius of Belushi and Aykroyd combined with countless cameos help to boost this up to a B in my book (and that wasn’t meant to be a pun).
Really? Do they like it?
My mom dies for those kind of movies, and my dad thought it was OK.
I liked it. But, again, it was a bit slow and dramatic at parts.
Have you seen What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? That movie came out years before Romeo + Juliet. Leo did a VERY good job in that movie! He was very believable as a kid with a disability. He had me in tears during certain parts. That’s one of my favorite movies he’s been in.
Citizen Kane: A
Somewhat overrated, but still a really impressive work of art. The cinematography, staging, and use of light and value are amazing. The story has some great ideas and themes and the characters are deep and lively. I think it’s a bit excessive to call it the “best film ever”, but it’s certainly a landmark in many ways.
The Book of Eli - A: I love this movie. I didn’t expect the ending at all, so I’ll just say I loved it.
City Island - A: Kind of slow, but very good.
Apollo 13 - A: This movie is awesome.
I’m still deciding about Philadelphia. It was very good and the actors were convincing, but it’s hard to say what I thought of it.
Having a Tom Hanks day, were you? Sounds awesome. Both of those movies are terrific. Apollo 13 had great suspense, and Philadelphia was a beautiful love story and had many themes that needed to be addressed.
Yes, I basically had a Tom Hanks marathon on Monday. I like Philadelphia’s purpose. And I agree, people with AIDs shouldn’t be treated badly. It was just so sad! Which was probably good, because it further served its purpose.
I saw Anastasia by Don Bluth yesterday. I liked it, the animation was gorgeous and the characters were pretty well individualized, but the villain seemed pointless, and the scenes devoted to him dragged on and added nothing. Otherwise solid, just needed certain parts snipped out.
I loved Anastasia when I was little, and so did my mom. I wish my VCR worked; I want to see it again!
It was especially touching for me because my mom’s uncle was a homosexual and died from complications from AIDs. I don’t really remember him, but still.
I don’t like it when people make light of AIDS, either. My mom thinks it’s funny, but I find it deeply insensitive.
My uncle is gay, and my dad freaked out once when he used my dad’s razor, so I think he has AIDs as well.
Tears of the Sun: A - I really like this movie. I’m really into Africa stuff lately…
I’m seeing Gnomeo and Juliet on Monday.
Anyone interested in seeing I Am Number Four?
Coco Before Chanel: I loved this movie. I think Audrey Tautou is a wonderful actress, and she was very convincing. I usually prefer English dubs to subtitles because they distract me, but I really loved this movie. I only wish they had told Chanel’s whole story, as opposed to just a few years.
Summer Wars: Oh, my GOSH. I was not expecting any of that…this movie left me astonished, and extremely anxious at certain points. I was skeptical at first, but you become absorbed into its world pretty quickly. It’s rare for a movie these days to captivate me to the point of not being able to think of anything else, even during the calm moments. This is a must-see if you think virtual reality is interesting. Fresh, exciting, scary, etc…
Summer Wars, eh? Never heard of it. I’ll have to check the video store…
I can’t believe I’m saying this…
I watched Hannah Montana: The Movie
It was better than I thought. It was actually kind of decent until the end. The ending sucked. Let’s face it, I only liked the movie because of the cute cowboy. So, the movie gets a D, but the cowboy kids an A.
