A. That poster is awesome
B. So is Cracked.
Little Fockers “D+” Pretty awful movie right here. I thought that Greg’s kids would have more of a bigger role in the movie, but they were just used as cheap plot devices. Some of it’s humor uses the same recycled gags from the first two movies such as “I’m watching you.” I did laugh at some of the jokes such as [spoil]the erection joke and the rap part during the credits.[/spoil] They didn’t even resovle one of the subplots like [spoil]where they’re trying to get their kids into some Human Learning School.[/spoil] Overall, pretty bad movie but it had its moments.
I, Robot- This movie is awesome. Really makes you think what it means to be human. Just Will Smith makes this movie awesome, because he is pure awesome. I give it a B.
EJE: Having read the ‘I Robot’ anthology a few years ago, I’ll say that other than the scientist character, the movie has nothing to do with the source material. BUT Will Smith is awesome and the action is incredible. If they had just kept the original short story’s complex themes about morality and the human condition and not gone all Terminator-mode, it would’ve been a better film. But as it is, I loved it when I watched it as a teen and it’s still a pretty decent movie in my books.
I recently watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Very heartwarming story, and the San Francisco bridge showdown is worth the price of admission. I’ll write a detailed review later, but if you love animal stories, science-fiction, or war strategy (This film teaches you how to lead a prison breakout and stage an armed coup!), you’re gonna enjoy this! I’ll even go so much to say as this is my second favourite live-action film after Fast Five this year so far. Do not be put off by the fact that it is a prequel or the overhyped marketing campaign, it’s an excellent film and I highly recommend it!
Just saw Rise Of The Apes today and wow best live action film of the year for me hands down.
Hey, I’m okay with this. Looking forward to Apes.

Haven’t seen KFP 2 yet but will once it gets a blu-ray release.
I have a question for those of you who have seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Is it a good idea to watch the original movie before watching the latest movie? I’ve never seen it.
Good idea, and good list!
10s. Gertie the Dinosaur
20s. The Kid
30s. Gone with the Wind
40s. Casablanca
50s. Lady and the Tramp
60s. The Graduate

80s. Driving Miss Daisy
90s. The Lion King

2010s. Rio
I’m seeing that movie this Wends. I loved the book, so I’m excited for this movie.
I didn’t see the original 60s version nor the 2001 remake, but it is not a prerequisite to understand this film. It stand on its own; the first two-thirds is actually like a ‘human and his animal friend’ story and the last third is like a huge escape/battle sequence.
My friend saw the first film (I’m not sure which version) and he said there’s some references to it, like [spoil]Caesar playing with a Statue of Liberty figurine, or the three main ape protagonists (Caesar, the orangutan, and the guy with the eye scar) being the predecessors of the first film’s ape protagonists, or the end scene with the pilot spreading the human-virus around the globe.[/spoil]
It is self-contained enough for newcomers like me and has a few nods for longtime fans to appreciate.

Are you the person who gets to see movies for free because you write reviews for your school newspaper? I can’t remember if it’s you or Spirit. I’m asking because I’m looking at your list and seeing movies on it like Big Mommas: Like Father Like Son and Hoodwinked and wondered if you paid to see them. I know everybody has different taste, but I just can’t imagine somebody paying to see those to movies.
I decided to make my list of movies I’ve seen this year so far with my favorite to least favorite.
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Super 8
The Bridesmaids
Rio (2 times)
X-Men: First Class
Rango (2 times)
The Fighter
Kung Fu Panda 2
Thor
Ture Grit

Here is My updated list as I forgot some I had seen this year and I am lucky because I have this small theatre by my house that only plays 2 movies at a time but they always play new releases they will keep each movie for a week then onto another new release and tickets are only 5 bucks so I get to see a lot of movies.

Captain America The First Avenger
On Stranger Tides
Transformers Dark Of The Moon

Yup, you’re right regarding Rise of the Apes, outsider. I didn’t watch the Star Trek TV show either and I understood JJ Abrams’ reboot.
I’m not sure whether Spirit writes reviews, but I am a student contributor to my university magazine. Essentially, we contact the editor and enquire if there’s anything that needs reviewing in the office. Sometimes, she will tip us off if there’s a concert or gig ro attend, or a DVD screener or book sample that needs previewing. Usually I grab the film premieres and advance screenings.
I watched Rango at Paramount Studio’s theatrette and watched an advance screening of Hoodwinked Too! and Justin Bieber on their behalf. Most of my published reviews though are unsolicited (ie I wanted to submit a review of a film I recently watched with my own money). So basically all the films you see on my list except for the ones I mentioned, as well as Season of the Witch and Big Mommas (which I saw through my friend’s illegal copies while staying over at their place) are all paid for with my own money and seen in cinemas with my friends or alone. Oh, and Water for Elephants was a free redemption with a voucher I got from a loyalty programme.
I’ve even seen Rio and Cars 2 twice legitimately (with my 2nd viewing of Cars 2 in IMAX) and Kung Fu Panda 2 and Thor twice uh… illegitimately (theatre sneak-ins with friends after watching the first movie). So you can imagine how much cash I’ve spent in one cinema chain alone, especially since tickets typically go for $15 on weekends there.
I’m aware some people (like Harry Knowles, Peter Travers, or a Pixar blogger whose name I won’t mention) are invited to attend press screenings by the studio and they write glowing reviews to promote the movie. Of course, sometimes they may feel honest about their opinion, but then there’s always the possibility that they were simply impressed by the fact that they got to watch a movie before everyone else and hence rave about it.
I’m not that kind of person, if I hated a movie, I’ll say I hate it, whether I got a free pass or not. I gave Bieber 6/10 and Hoodwinked 4/10, for example. I’ve priased other movies like Kung Fu Panda 2 and Cars 2 which I forked out ridiculous amounts of my own cash (or to be exact, my parents’) to attend the premiere screening or see in a large-format like IMAX. If I like a movie, I will still try to think what aspects could be improved on. And of course, I try my best to remain objective. On a personal level, I enjoyed Hoodwinked Too! thouroughly because I dig spy movies and spoofs and parodies and mash-ups, but if I want to be professional, i’ll have to say it was an abysmal movie with sub-standard CGI and storytelling.
I think as reviewers, we must be confident in the knowledge that our opinions can’t be bought. We have to have that sort of integrity and conviction in our assessment of a film, and not be swayed by a studio giving you a free pass, or your university for that matter. A critic is not a PR-spokesperson.

I really want to see some good movies, because this list is pretty pathetic. Looking forward to Super 8 and Rise of the Planet of the Apes whenever I have the chance of seeing them.
^Haha, everyone seemed to adore the new Harry Potter–I’m unfamiliar with the series, but curious to hear why you disliked it.
^ I know, right? I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t like it yet.
It’s not that it’s a bad movie, because it’s not. I mainly did not like it because it didn’t feel like a movie. Most people consider the early Harry Potter films the worst because they differ so much from the books, but they will always remain my favorites because the feel like movies. In other words, if all the scenes people complain aren’t in the movies were put in to the movies, the same people would complain that they made the film feel a lot slower and probably weren’t necessary.
I adored the acting, direction, effects, and sets for Deathly Hallows part 2, and upon watching it I was constantly reminded of why it was my favorite book in the series, but the nit-picky moments were so irritating for me that I just couldn’t see it eye to eye as the other HP films. The pacing was very awkward. At times it zoomed through scenes, and at others it took it’s mighty time. I have a feeling that when marathons are held as this is released on DVD, many people will just skip past the opening scene because it’s just 10 minutes of summarizing the first part. Ralph Fiennes was great as Voldemort when he was serious, but when he portraying a “so evil I’m happy about it” attitude, he felt a little hammy.
I thought it was too dark. It’s the last movie and with the events in the book it has to be dark, but in the books it felt in character. Here you can tell that the movie is just setting a dark tone because the book has a dark tone. Also, the characters act nothing like how they did in previous installments. Of course they have grown more mature and wise, but even still, there were some scenes where there could have been a little more enthusiasm.
I don’t really know why I dislike the film. When I came out of the theatre I loved it. As I drove home and let the film sink into me, it irritated me to the point where I didn’t like it. But writing this now, I’m thinking much more about the things I liked from it. I guess I’ll just have to wait until DVD to make up my final decision, but for now, just know that the reason I didn’t like the movie was because I’m more of a fan of whimsical-Harry Potter than dark-Harry Potter.
