But they aren’t right. The first couple of movies are the only one that don’t differ from the books that much. From those two on, they’ve never been as faithful.
Just watched Half Nelson: 4 stars. Great script, excellent acting by Ryan Gosling, just an all around great film. One of the best I’ve seen in the last decade easily.
IV: Well, to be honest, I watched it after midnight at my friend’s place and I was half-awake. If a film is entertaining, it should be able to grab my attention and keep me interested (and I have experienced that with films even when I want to sleep), so it didn’t work out for me (I dozed off halfway through and woke up for the climax). I plan to give it another chance, but from what I’ve seen, it was nothing remarkable. And the ending was so cheesy ([spoil]The hero dies rather pathetically[/spoil]). Although it starts two of my favourite actors; Nicholas Cage and Ron Pearlman, the latter who played Hellboy. And the actress who played the witch is hot, must find out her name.
Ron Peralman scares me! Ever since I saw him in a Master of Horror episode, he’s scared me. He’s somebody that I wouldn’t want to walk past in a dark alley at night time.
shivers
The Shape of Things Very predictable. I figured out most of what was going to happen even before the movie was half way over. I don’t think I’ve seen Paul Rudd play anything but characters who are akward, going through some kind of phase in their lives that causes them to do crazy things and heartbroken. Well except for the character he played in Clueless.
Easier with Practice What a great movie! I enjoyed everybody in it. And what happens towards the end is probably the most uncomfortable thing I’ve seen in a movie so far thanks to some extremely close camera shots. This is an indie film, and after watching it and many others recently, I’ve noticed that a lot of indie films have endings that leave things up to the viewer to finish it.
A Home at the End of the World I enjoyed this movie. I didn’t realize Colin Farrell was in it until he got his hair cut. I’ve read that the book is better, so I’m gonna read it.
1 Rise of the Planet of the Apes
2 Rango
3 Source Code
4 Captain America: The First Avenger
5 Fast Five
6 Thor
7 X-Men: First Class
8 Midnight in Paris
9 Unknown
10 Rio
11 Transformers: Dark of the Moon
12 The Lincoln Lawyer
13 Bridesmaids
14 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
15 Horrible Bosses
16 Kung Fu Panda 2
17 The Mechanic
18 Hanna
19 Super 8
20 Cars 2
I’ve posted reviews of both films on this forum. Basically, they both felt like an action movie and a hollow emotional arc slapped together in an unsatisfying whole. Cars 2 had a bullcrap moral to go with it.
I watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes the other day and would definitely put it near the top of my list. I didn’t connect to it as much as Super 8 (though I’m sure most people will), but it’s a really solid movie with emotional weight to it. It did lose me a little bit during the climax though.
I watched Law Abiding citizen: 2 stars. It has moments when it works. But it has an implausiable polt, it is unneassarly violent, and has the worst ending of any movie I’ve ever seen.
