Movies - both new and old

I really want to see The Breakfast Club! :frowning: There’s a ton of famous movies I’ve been meaning to see, actually. I’m bad at getting around to these things.

I agree with Spirit and q_o_p. Bridesmaidswas very funny and very well done, especially considering it’s a modern comedy, which I generally dislike. I still like The Hangover better.

The first Hangover, you mean? The second one was one of my biggest disappointments last year.

I didn’t see it till I was about 16.

Well yes, of course.

I watched The Fantastic Adventures of Unico last night, a Japanese children’s animated movie based on a comic by Osamu Tezuka (known for Astro Boy). For something more strictly geared at a very young audience, I found it surprisingly charming and it held my interested far better than I thought. The characters were all quite likable and the music is very much of the time, but cute. It has a largely Sanrio-ish vibe, I believe Sanrio helped produce and localize it.

I realized I haven’t watched The Iron Giant in a while. Need to dig out my old VHS copy. I’m sure I still have it.

I watched that when I was very little and remember loving it, but I couldn’t really sit through it a few years ago, sadly.

Whaddya know, I genuinely enjoyed The Help.

See? It was a really good film. A very enchanting story.

I’m not surprised that it was an enjoyable movie to watch, but I guess the extent to which I enjoyed it was not expected. It was marketed as being a chick-flick comedy, at least from my perspective after watching trailers, so I was happy to see there was a fine balance of drama and humor, especially given the grave situation and plot.

Not sure what my next Netflix movie should be. Maybe 50/50.

50/50 is wonderful

50/50 and The Help were two of my favorite films of the year.

Both had a really enjoyable balance of humor and drama.

Just like what Pixar does when it’s at its best.

Anybody seen The Iron Lady? I’m thinking about seeing it.

I love the score. I think most people know I’m a Thomas Newman fan, but this score I hope will score him his 11th Oscar nomination. It’s got all of the trademark Newman sound with a really nice orchestral regal twist.

I have yet to see 50/50, but when I finished The Help that is precisely what I thought of it!

I haven’t seen it yet. I might do so though.

Anyone watch independent films?

Of course.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil was… entertaining. 8D

The Room, of course.
