Has anyone seen the TV movie version?
I feel like I saw it on TV when I was a kid but wasn’t a big fan.
It’s definitely a great film. I’ve been wanting to rewatch it lately, and now that we just got hit with lots of snow, it might be appropriate. ![]()
Me too, along with Shawshank Redemption and Stand by Me (my favorite of the list).
I forgot Stand by Me.
Like I said, his non horror adaptations are jewels.
I also forogt about it.
I like the train scene.
Went to see War Horse last night, and oh my goodness, if this isn’t Oscar bait i don’t know what is ![]()
I did really enjoy it. I loved both this and Tintin so Spielberg has made me a very happy bunny recently, and as expected they’re are two very different films and showing off his two contrasting styles to a good if not great result. I did read Michael Morpergo’s books as a child, but i have to admit that i was never a huge fan of his-I only really loved Kensukes Kingdom-but I do feel that almost every one of his books could be translated well on screen as they were so cinematic with it’s settings and characters. This film has confirmed my thoughts. Visually, it’s stunning. It’s monotone and dark during the war scenes, and romantically lit in the scenes at home. The portrayal of war was done almost surprisingly well. My screening was full of old people who presumably had direct relatives who had fought in the war, and they seemed in awe of the very realistic backdrops. It was almost horrific at times-one scene showed a soldier walking across a trench with dead bodies sprawled over every inch-but he did a good job on that part.
A lot of people have criticised this film as being sappy. Guys, it’s a war movie with a cute horse in it, of course it’s going to be sappy!
. I was bawling all the way through, but perhaps not of all the injuries Joey sustained, but because it really went out to show the true meaning of bravery and strength. The horse was amazing, as were all of the cast (especially the always underrated Emily Watson). My only criticisms are the length (2 and a half hours, which admittedly isn’t Lord of the Rings long but still long), and I felt some of the scenes, as lovely as they were, got dragged out for a lot longer they needed. Overall, i give it 8.5 out of 10.
May watch The Resculers Down Under Later.
Most people here hate The Rescuers films, but I think they’re fairly good.
I haven’t seen the second one. It’s the one film of the Disney Renaissance I need to see.
Growing up I had the sequel, and not the original on DVD. So, I never realized there was one before the Australian one, my mind was blown when I found out!
Why were you so amazed?
I also watched the second before the original.
Anyone like The Breakfest Club?
I loved that film! Definitely one of my favorites from the '80s.
The Breakfast Club is actually my favorite live-action movie. I tend to admire movies that have a small cast of memorable characters in a small environment, and additionally depends on lots of quality dialogue/interaction to carry the film. So in other words, something that is based off a play (Hitchcock movies) or could easily be adapted into one. Does that make sense? I like how John Hughes (RIP) completely immersed me in the world of Shermer High’s Saturday detention due to that play-like format. Then, of course, I like that Hughes uses archetype characters but explores conflicts within each one, which makes the characters incredibly complex given the movie’s plot.
Anyway, I love it. It’s one of the few movies I watch once a year, every year.
It’s a classic. I need to get it on DVD.
Same here. I’ll definitely get it once I can find a DVD copy.
Same, saw it on blu-ray at Walmart.
I literally just explained that. Because I had no idea that there was another film preceding it, I grew up having the impression that it was just tRDU.
Bridesmaids was an enjoyable comedy film, and I have to admit that I can strongly relate to Kristen Wiig’s character. Not one of my favorite movies, but I like it enough to watch it again or even purchase the DVD.
I liked Bridesmaids. The ending was kind of a let down for me, but it was overall an enjoyable comedy by today’s standards.
