Movies - both new and old

I may see Chronicle.

I hope you do! My favorite, Duck Soup, is on youtube. My only problem with that movie is that Chico doesn’t have a piano solo, and Harpo doesn’t have a harp solo.

I hope you do sometime!

Virginia: Yeah, I didn’t like Grease at all. And I like Wizard of Oz, but I don’t think it’s as good as everyone makes it out to be.

I didn’t like Tim Burton’s Alice like most people. I liked the Danny Elfman score and the cinematography and that was quite literally about it. Pointless characters, was basically a mishmash mess of the original books, and had no heart to it.

When I first saw it, I disliked the film so much that I even disregarded the Elfman score.

Later on, without the film tarnishing it, it has become a favorite Elfman of mine.

Mhm, I think it’s awesome.

I didn’t like Burton’s Alice, either. I haven’t been blowed over by one of his films in a while, unfortunately. My favorites of his are still Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice.

I’m a little sad that people think The WIzard of Oz is overrated. It’s one of my favorite films! Don’t care about Grease so much; really, I just like that movie for the ridiculously catchy tunes.

Oz is a great film, but I join those who think it overrated.

Neveeeer. Too many good songs and a classic story as well! In terms of artsiness, I don’t think it’s on par with a film like Citizen Kane or anything, but it’s just the perfect feel-good movie in my eyes. I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.

I think most of its high points are technical, and also on the Production Design department.

I totally agree with that. Which is exactly why I call it overrated. A lot of people put it “on par with a film like Citizen Kane”.

I think it’s pretty good, but I have my problems with its story and some of the acting.

I do like the songs, and the story. It is a good film, I’m not denying that. Maybe I’d like it better of Shirley Temple was cast in it. Even when I was a little girl I thought Garland was too old for the part.

That casting decision also bothers me.

Garland is too old, and looks silly as Dorothy.

What movie are you talking about?

I think SOA was referring to The Wizard of Oz if I’m not mistaken.

Yeah, I think just about anything you can say is wrong with Grease. I respect that you guys love WoW, but I really don’t. I didn’t like it even when I was little, and I doubt I ever will.

I absolutely agree.

Love is stretching it ,I don’t love WoO. And I’m not trying to make you like it either.

Does anyone think Dorathy looks younger in Return to Oz?

I probably shouldn’t have said you guys. :stuck_out_tongue: I think QoP(I might be wrong) said she loved it, and yeah… I should just stop thinking out loud. 8D I don’t even know what I meant at the time.

That’s because Return to Oz isn’t a sequel to the Garland film.

I think the film would probably have a stronger emotional impact on me with a strong, young female lead, but otherwise I find Garland charming in this film and I absolutely adore her singing voice.

It sounds stupid, but a think that makes me uncomfortable is that she’s practically bursting out of her little girl clothes. Definitively too old for the part.

I’ve never been too much of a Garland fan in general. Probably because there’s something about her that looks weird to my eyes. Tough, to be frank, she isn’t half as weird as her daughter Liza Minelli 8D
