Movies - both new and old

SharkTale is SO much better. Best Pixar film ever made!

You mean Shrek the Third, right?

Oh man, SO ridiculous. I’m so stoaked for it. It looks pretty bad*ss. I’m going to see it on opening day, along with Brave.

Has anyone seen Titanic in 3D yet! I want to.

Nope! Do you have plans to see it anytime soon?

I don’t think I will be seeing it but I really want to. And anyway I will see it sometime in my life.

Did Titanic 3D get released in the US yet? To my knowledge, I thought it comes out in a couple weeks.

The Little Mermaid is supposed to be re-released in 3D next year, in September. I’m probably going to go.

Yeah, it opened yesterday here in the States.

I read some people think Titanic getting re released in 3D is disrespectful. I can kinda see why.

I think disrespectful is a big word.

I might not be interested in it, but I can’t see how it offends anyone.

I don’t think it’s disrespectful. I myself hate the corny romance. But I do give the movie credit for bringing attention to that disaster. Honestly, how many people do you suppose would know and talk about the fact it’s the 100 year anniversary? A lot, yes. But most people will brush it off. The fact is a lot of people find history boring. And seeing history brought to life on film can hold people’s attention.

The Titanic has a lot of moving scenes in it, reminding that these were people with families who died. Not just words on a history book.

I think some people think it’s disresprful because them putting it in 3D and trying to get extra money of a tragic event were people died has people think it’s disrespectful to the people that died and the survivers. 3D is suppose to out you into the movie and if your really there. In most ways that would be a good thing even though I hate it. But for the people who were really there, it was horrifing. They didn’t wanna be there. They watched family and friends die, it wasen’t something they wanted to see. I think it would be like if they released one of the 9/11 movies in 3D. I’m guessing most of the familys who had a loved one die in it woulden’t like it.

What’s my best guess on how they see it as disrespectful.

I’m not sure there are many people left from the disaster, if any… It was 100 years ago! I’m not a huge fan of the film but, money-making opportunities aside, I don’t think the film itself is trying to be disrespectful to people who were on the ship or knew people on the ship. So really, I don’t care myself.

Yesterday I saw Firemen’s Ball by Milos Forman. Finishing up Lovefilm by Istvan Szabo right now.

Simply making a film is “making money out of a tragedy”, but then again tragic events have always inspired art. And motion pictures are an art form.

3D is simply a format of doing it, and it’s not more or less offensive than 2D. I’m not a fan of Cameron by any means, but I doubt he’s trying to disrespect anyone by converting the film.

I just think this is another instance of the “let’s whine about 3D every time it’s named” campaign.

I guess you could consider me part of that campaign, but in my defense 3D just doesn’t work for me, so I’m not just criticizing it as a gimmick but more so as a flawed technology that isn’t effective for my vision/circumstances. I truly cannot experience a 3D film as others do, though I have no idea why (I need glasses but I’m not blind or anything). Sometimes I can’t go to see a movie because it’s only available in 3D at the nearby theater. :~o

I don’t consider you part of the campaign, because:

1- You are a part of the percentage of people who can’t physically see the 3D effect.
2- You understand that the technology is still flawed but could have potential is it gets further development and that it isn’t just a way to make money, but that it can help to experience certain films.
3- I’m pretty sure you blame the local theaters of their lack of 2D versions and not the filmmakers. They make both versions available, and don’t force anyone to watch the 3D one. It’s a free choice. At least where I am, it’s reasonably easy to access to the version of your preference, but I’m sad to hear your local theater doesn’t help.
4- You don’t whine at every mention of it 8D

I don’t personally like 3D movies because they make me feel sick.

It’s cool when it’s an option for a new movie, but why fill all of the theaters with 3D versions of movies that have been around for years? I can understand if they put it in the DVD with glasses with it or something, but it seems like no one has creativity anymore. So many things coming out now are remakes and sequels. :imp:

Personally I actually like 3D. But I would NEVER pay to see Titanic.

I have yet to see something in 3D. I’m waiting for the right movie to come along.
